It helps if you have reflexes like a cat
- Pros: It does what it says it will do, and that's all I wanted. There are better detectors out there but not at this price point
- Cons: Detection range varies. Once it picked up x band at over a mile away on an open interstate highway. Impressive! Later, under very similar conditions it went off about an eighth of a mile away from a parked trooper. That's too close for comfort.
It also picks up a fair share of false alerts, but I would prefer a false alert to none at all.
- Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a detector that will provide some measure of early warning this will do it for you, but you'd better have reflexes like a cat if you want to avoid a ticket.
It's probably as effective as any detector in this price range and should be okay for those who don't drive too fast, but want a little time to check their speed before being tagged by the police.
good for price
- Pros: good range
retains settings auto-mute mode "city 2" mode disables x band completely
- Cons: programming
mounting bracket
- Other Thoughts: The XTR-330 is surprisingly good, especially for the price. It retains settings when turned off, so you don't have to set it up all over every time you start your car. A few times it has lost settings. I love the ability to disable X band completely in "city II mode" - it eliminated all false alarms. It has picked up the very weak aperature radar used for photo radar vans far in advance - more so than my Escort 8500 X50. The voice is gimmicky and annoying but you can turn it off, as you can with all of the self-test startup noises so you don't have to listen to insane beeping every time you start up. Programming modes is confusing - you will need the manual. Mounting bracket could be sturdier.
Excellent "fuzz buster"
- Pros: Does exactly what it's supposed to do. I mounted it up on my dash using adhesive Velcro strips from a local hardware store. Range is incredible. Over half a mile. It goes off, I look around, and don't see any cops. I keep driving and sure enough there's one with their radar on parked by the side of the road. I really like the real voice alert feature. It's clear and easy to understand. Before I mounted it, I had it in my ash tray. Range was a little shortened, but it still worked well. A good place to keep it because it's out of sight of cops and potential thieves.
- Cons: None really. A couple false alerts, but that's expected with a device like this, and it's not really that big a deal. Volume can be a bit low also. I like to listen to my music really loud and sometimes I can't hear the alerts even with the volume on the device at full. (maybe I should turn my music down, lol)
- Other Thoughts: All around excellent product. The Whistler XTR-330 has everything you should look for in a quality radar detector. It's feature packed and is priced so it wont hurt your budget. I would def. recommend this model. Rumour has it that theft is high on devices like this, so make sure whenever you leave your vehicle you take it down and put it in your glove box. One last note on performance: this thing also detected those stupid cameras on top of stop lights...you know the ones that take a picture of your license plate and then send you tickets in the mail? Yeah...those. It is my hope that my initial investment in this product will get me out of 100's of dollars in potential tickets...(too bad it cant do anything for parking tickets, lol)
