4 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: Works well/ great picture / pvr works good /own 2 they both work / price very reasonable .

Cons: no radio stations / for some reason won't play back music files/ sometimes freezes when using epg ( guide ).

Other Thoughts: for the price not bad if you get one that works !

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Good

Pros: I bought 3 of these. They do work as expected. Be aware of the signal you provide to the receiver. It cannot receive what it does not have. I mounted my antenna in the attic and used amplifiers as needed to provide a good signal. The receivers picked up many stations. The EPG worked well, Time Shift recording worked as did scheduled recordings.

Cons: Receiver is a bit slow to respond to the remote. Documentation could be better. Some documentation on setting up the system as a whole would be good.

5 out of 5 eggsBest customer service

Pros: This device allows you to record "over the air" broadcasting shows in HD (720p & 1080 i) with the shows original sound (even in 5.1 sound). An EXCELLENT device for those of us who know how to set it up with HD TV antenna. Even better, when I need assistance, its customer service is also EXCELLENT. 5 stars for how this company take care of their customers & products. Best customer & product service I have seen for the last 10 years.

Cons: N/A because for its reasonable price range

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 of these devices. One for each of my TV.

2 out of 5 eggsRecords in obscure format, weak reception and very awkward recording.

Pros: Does record as advertised.

Cons: 1) Weak reception. Rabbit ears which work OK with an ATSC TV set (in a metro area where I can see the TV station's antenna) result in intermittent signal.

2) Device saves the recording in MTS format, which is inefficient (when compared to MP4, MKV or WMV) and must be converted (with Avidemux or other software) for playback on other devices.

3 The Guide, such as it is, does not extend further than 12 hours. Setting up recording manually is very awkward and clumsy.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with Cable TV

Pros: Easy to hook up and set up.
Direct pass through of channels.
HDMI out.

Cons: Does NOT work with cable. ONLY OVER THE AIR with an antenna.

Other Thoughts: I would think that the specs should spell out that this ONLY works with and Antenna, and DOES NOT WORK WITH CABLE.

3 out of 5 eggsCheck Your Receiver First

Pros: Picks up as many OTA channels as my other TV's.

Cons: My receiver fails to pickup the HDMI signal. I can only get this to work using the component cables (1080i limit). This was unfortunate since the HDMI out was the main reason I went with this unit

Other Thoughts: I purchase this unit to allow OTA broadcasts on my home theater (Projector). My setup is antenna >converter box > Pioneer Receiver > Epson Projector. Although I'm annoyed that the HDMI is not functional, the component cables/RCA audio is just enough functionality to prevent me from buying a unit that works properly. If you're dead set on 7.1 surround and 1080p make sure to check your receiver's HDMI signal compatibility before buying this box. Just to be clear, I am 99% sure the HDMI compatibility issue lies with my receiver, not the HW150PVR, but the annoyance persists.

5 out of 5 eggshtfdct

Pros: This Unit suport Dolby Digital 5.1 OTA on both HDMI and digital output, you must use the remote to setup audio to HDMI RAW or HDMI. My Pioneer Elite 63 which I purchased from Newegg detected Dolby Digital 5.1 from this unit. You will need an HD antenna to pick up the local HD channels.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have not try the USB recording.

1 out of 5 eggsdidnt work

Pros: small

Cons: DOA times 2.. I got the first one in and hooked it up. Did a channel scan and it could find no channels. tried running some analog service through the pass through feature and it had a ton of static. RMA'd it, got the new one in. hooked it up. It did not get the static like the first one, but when scanning for channels, again, it detected no channels. Using the pass through feature I checked the TV with it still hooked up and got digital channels 12-1, 24-1, 35-1, 54-1, 54-2, 54-3, 66-1 for a total of 7 channels, and if the TV could find them, then this box being hooked up before the TV should have been able to find them too. but it found none. My friend tried hooking it up at his house and it could not find any when he hooked it up too. I should note that I am only about 5 or 6 miles from the TV station's antennas too. So in short, 2 boxes, one gave a lot of static, neither could detect any channels and the TV can detect 7 going through the same line. what more is there to say.

Other Thoughts: Overall, i wish it had worked. It is a good idea and at a decent price, but that means nothing if it will not work. Cant really say much about how anything else works because since I bought it for the TV recording and that is not working, I did not check any other feature because what I wanted it for did not work. I hate giving 1 star's to a product, and think that this is the first one I ever gave, but considering the facts, I really can not say anything good about it.
