Pros: Tivo is an amazing service that is just a few dollars more a month than renting a DVR from your local cable company. With that being said, that extra money is well worth the service that you get with it. You can purchase and rent movies from ama-zon or use Netflix with it as well to stream your movies and tv shows in HD.

Other Thoughts: This is my 4th Tivo that I have purchased and it is a must have for me. To those of you complaining about the service and not working with direct tv, that is clearly stated on their website. It is not the companies fault that you didn't read prior to purchasing this product.

Pros: Works great if you pay the $13 per month to TiVo. Will work as a HDTV Digital Air Antenna Tuner/HDTV Set top box tuner for older TV's with no Dig. Tuner built in, but it will not show the guide that transmits from the stations over the air, only shows the one it downloads via phone/Ethernet cable available through contract subscription service.
Cons: It won't play or record at all without paying $13/month. I Totally got burned on this. I thought I could get it as a digital tv tuner and record shows from PBS Kids for daughter during initial trial period without service. This worked but after a couple of weeks it shut down and would no longer play or record. and barely worked as a tuner.
Other Thoughts: Do your research! I've heard so much about TiVo I believed the hype was justified. It is definately not worth the money. If they are going to be charging so much for a contract service they should be giving these boxes away like they do cell phones.

Pros: 2 tuners so I never have recording conflicts like I did with my Series2. TiVo is the best for stopping action and frame by frame (NFL refs should have TiVo). Jump back feature when you hit play from fast forward is AWESOME! Nobody else has it. It alone is worth the price of TiVo service. Season pass automatically records all episodes of a show even if the network moves it to another night/time.
Cons: 1080i not 1080p, That may matter to me someday. I did not get 5.1 through the HDMI, but did via optical cable directly to receiver. My Hi Def channels are not yet listed in the guide so I have to look up the SD program and manually setup the record, at least until my cable company stops shuffling their lineup so often. Some kind of screen saver would be good since I have a plasma which gets screen burn if paused too long.
Other Thoughts: Since this is my second TiVo, I knew to get the lifetime service plan.
Use TiVoToGo (free download) to copy the recordings to a PC and avoid having to buy an external drive.
Get VideoReDo (free trial then pay for it because its worth it) to edit out commercials and make DVDs.
