The Bose 3•2•1 GS Series II system is home theater made easy. Four elements, three wires and a power cord are all you need for great sound. The two Gemstone speakers are smaller than ever before and can fit on your outstretched hand. They are powered by powerful neodymium iron boron magnets to drive big sound from tiny transducers. The legendary Acoustimass module delivers a deep, rich bass response.

The media center module has a DVD/CD player, AM/FM tuner and inputs for three additional sources so you can control everything through one system. The Videostage 5 technology lets you hear home theater quality sound from just about anything you play including things that weren't recorded in surround sound. Active electronic equalization balances the outputs across all frequencies for incredible tonal balance and clarity.

The Digital Dynamic Range speaker compression circuitry lets you hear dialog and other soft sounds while still getting the impact of loud special effects. Everything is processed by the TrueSpace digital processing circuitry to deliver a multi-channel audio experience from the two Gemstone® speakers and the Acoustimass module.

3 out of 5 eggsOver Rated

Pros: Compact and easy setup. More powerful and better sounding than any other system of its size. Decent systems for those who want to rid themselves of boat anchors and tombstones cluttering the living space. The simulated surround from the 2 small speakers is enjoyable but will not rival a multi speaker setup.

Cons: WAY over priced. The cheap DVD drive that Bose chose to use will fail in a short period of time. Bose offers a flat repair rate of $125 plus shipping but that is expensive for the cheap DVD drive to be replaced. There is no HDMI connection on the series 2 and you will not achieve upconversion.

Other Thoughts: Bose has introduced the 321 Series 3 which adds an HDMI connection and upconverts to 1080P. You'll drop a grand to achieve it. The series 2 prices are still over $700 so Bose is charging $300 for an upconverting DVD player. You just bought a Blue Ray. I would have liked to see he series 2 price drop to around $600. Bose sound quality is better than most small systems but not necessarily worth the inflated price tag. It won't blow your skirt up.

2 out of 5 eggsMediocre

Pros: It's all you need in a box. Fairly easy to set up and use. Does give you a theater effect to some degree.

Cons: Just not musical. If you want thump with no mid range, you may like it. I put it in our bedroom and at first thought I had not set it up correctly. The midrange, where most of the music is (including vocals), is muffled to non-existent. It's sort of boom box sound in a more expensive package.

Other Thoughts: It was a father's day gift. I do have a high end stereo, so I may have some bias. I just feel that it's a relatively expensive system for such little return. If it had been $250 I may have been satisfied. There is no imaging and sort of a feeling that you're listening through a cardboard box. Unimpressed.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Considerable sound from small speakers, maintains the Bose reputation.

Cons: Surround sound quality is severely diminished when not situated directly in front of the speakers. Also, loses its magic in large rooms. Mid to lows may leave some wanting. No miracles.

Other Thoughts: I have two of the first edition of these entertainment systems. One is in a bedroom and compliments it nicely. The other is in our living room and the open space and lack of a rear wall behind the couch reduces the impact of the simulated surround sound. Video playback on certain formats was limited, but maybe that has improved with this gen. Also, some tinkering is required on some older DVDs pre-set in 5.1. The system would sometimes only play as 2.1- therein losing center and rear channels (annoying). Overall, a solid system, just don't expect a miracle powerhouse system.
