3 out of 5 eggsRemote or unit defective

Pros: Easy to setup, loud enough for my room.

Easy to update firmware; read and follow instructions and it's done.

Cons: It is a 2.1 HTIB not 5.1 and does not even come close to sounding like a 5.1 HTIB. Remote or main unit is flakey, cannot intermittentely control any functions with the remote.

Sometimes need to get up to 6" of it for remote to "maybe" work and yes the batteries are "fresh".

No seperate EQ, just different preset sound settings

Other Thoughts: Did not buy from NewEgg, was much cheaper after adding the freight to buy it locally.

2 out of 5 eggsDied + Only 30 Day Warranty

Pros: Good price for all in one device.

Cons: Swallows DVDs which have to be removed with a tweezer. Remote works sporadically, even with fresh batteries.

Other Thoughts: Warranty is only good for 30 days. Bought for a friend, now I have to buy something new.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound/Bad Picture

Pros: Set up was a snap and it sounds great. Very loud and clear sound. Price was too attractive to pass up compared to the Bose or other systems. It really does sound like some of the 5.1 systems I have had in the past.

Cons: DVD's look terrible. I can't even watch them it is so bad. I had a $40 Zenith dvd player from the spare room on here and it looked 10 times better. I tried the componant and HDMI connection and it still looks terrible on my 50" Samsung Plasma. I switched back to the cheapo unit to check the connections and it is fine on the cheapo. I wish I could control the bass level through a 1 touch button on the remote. I have had this feature on previous SS systems.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line... I'm buying the bose system and a blu-ray player and throwing this thing on craigslist... This is my first HD set and I want perfection. I am not a tech guy and it took my a while to get this all set up so all my componants played through the suround sound so take my advice as a novice.

5 out of 5 eggsExecellent HTS in a Box System

Pros: Complete package for a basic home theater in a small room or apartment/condo.
Does everything you need it to do including playing xvid/divx movies and mp3s in one small package.
Has a great price.
Sound is decent, but nothing compare to a 7.1 THX system, but then again you are only spending ~$300.

Cons: Does not play mpg4 movies
Navigating long mp3 lists is not easy
Only displays the first 8 character s in a file name

Other Thoughts: I did not buy it from newegg (they did not offer it back then).
Make sure you: update the firmware to the latest one from philips website; use hdmi for upscaling support; have atleast a 2 gig usb stick (much easer than using a dvd each time).

4 out of 5 eggsGood for a 2.1

Pros: Good Sound, Good Price, supports lots of file types

Cons: No problem with the gear but just make sure you understand that this is a 2.1 NOT a 5.1 system

Other Thoughts: Newegg has this listed when you do a search for 5.1 surround systems. This comes with 2.1 speakers. Not bad for the price but I feel like an idot for buying it

5 out of 5 eggsNice system

Pros: Sound, dvd upconvert, hdmi, usb mp3 input ect.....

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy mine from newegg. but i love it. my sandisk cruzer would not work but my external hdd did! plays divx off it nice. the only problem is how much data you have on your hdd. i had 80gb of mp3s and it would not load them. for the price this is a sweet unit.

5 out of 5 eggsHome Theater in a Box

Pros: Easy setup and configuration. Sounds good. USB input that works well despite a review that i read from CNET. all of my movies have played well from the USB including 900mb movies. Good price

Cons: none, it wasnt designed to be a true surround sound system and does good for 2.1

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great Value. Sound is great... loud and clear. Very easy to set up.

Cons: Limited rear inputs. Speakers are on the large side.

Other Thoughts: 2.1 system works great, especially if you don't want rear speakers and wires. Sometimes, forgetting that this system simulates surround sound, I've actually looked behind myself to see where the sound was coming from.
