With its advanced materials, PolyPlas cones for the pair of low-frequency woofers and the single midrange driver, and a CMMD Lite dome for the high-frequency tweeter, the JBL Studio 190 lets you experience deep, resounding low frequencies, a fully detailed midrange and complex high-frequency sound, whether you play it at low and subtle or high, maximum-SPL playback levels. Enjoy the exceptional clarity and realism with outstanding bass response offered by Studio 190 systems!

  • newegg 25 – 400 watts suggested amplifier power range The Studio 190 delivers enhanced, room-filling sound from a compatible AVR (audio/video receiver) or 25- to 400-watt power amplifier, whether you are using the Studio 190 as a stand-alone unit or as part of a surround-sound system.
  • newegg A pair of ribbed PolyPlas low-frequency cones The Studio 190 delivers powerful, resounding bass, thanks to the pair of PolyPlas 6-1/2-inch (165-millimeter) woofers. The ribbed construction improves strength while reducing distortion, filling a room with deep, resonant bass. This lightweight alloy allows for precise movement, ensuring that bass instruments always sound powerful but never “boomy.”
  • newegg Midrange driver housed in sub-enclosure To prevent sound interference from the upper and lower frequencies, the Studio 190’s 4-inch (100-millimeter) PolyPlas midrange driver features a separate sub-enclosure. And that’s not all – a lightweight alloy such as the PolyPlas material allows for precise cone movement to maximize sound clarity, especially on voices.
  • newegg Unique CMMD Lite 1" (25mm) tweeter The CMMD high-frequency tweeter starts as an aluminum dome that is sandwiched on either side with ceramic. The result is strong enough to hold its shape when moving rapidly yet light enough to eliminate unwanted resonances. What your ears notice, however, is subtle, clear detail and lasting, unsullied sound performance.
  • newegg Exclusive Bi-Radial waveguide The Studio 190’s Bi-Radial waveguide disperses high frequencies widely without loss of quality or accuracy, making sure that listening to the JBL Studio 190 loudspeakers is a great experience anyplace where you happen to be listening in the room.
  • newegg Magnetically shielded for video proximity Loudspeakers use magnets. Your TV hates magnets. But that doesn’t mean that you have to listen to movies on your television set’s often inadequate loudspeaker. Nor do you have to compromise your HDTV’s high-definition capabilities. The Studio 190 is optimized for inspired performance and magnetically shielded to prevent any interference with video sources.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Sound

Pros: Sound Amazing
Sturdy
crazy cheap (they were cheap at $150. now they're $126!)

Cons: none really. pretty heavy, but that's part of being a sturdy high quality speaker

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these, and am running them as stereo speakers, not as part of a surround sound system. The sound is amazing. I haven't tried turning them up particularly loud - I think I'd get kicked out of my apartment before I got anywhere close to max volume.

They have quite good low end - I'm running them without a sub and they sound good. (although your mileage may vary. it's bassy enough for me, but I'm not listening to Skrillex or anything)

4 out of 5 eggsGood sound, minor cosmetic damage

Pros: Speakers sound excellent. They produce good base and clean sounds in the mid and high ranges (I'm not an audiophile, my subjective assessment).

Cons: One of the speakers came damaged on the top left corner. It definitely did not happen in shipment as the box was completely undamaged. It was minor damage to the plastic and the corner of the speaker box. As I was using these in a bedroom I did not RMA. I fixed most of the visible damage with glue, and can live with the crack in the plastic, There was no discernible effect on the sound. I took an egg off for the cosmetic damage as I believe it happened in factory. I ordered 2 at the same time and one came pristine and the other came damaged. I'm not the only review to have this happened to so I docked an egg (again this was not Newegg's shipper, or UPS's shipping and delivery from what I can tell).

Other Thoughts: Some don't like the look of the speakers I don't mind it, and they are growing on me. These speakers are heavy be careful un-boxing them.
Summary:
- excellent sound
- risk of getting a unit with cosmetic damage
- heavy

3 out of 5 eggsTerrific Sound, Attractive Design, But Mediocre Materials

Pros: Very nice price at under 119.99 each (shipped).
Attractive modern design.
Exceptional sound quality for the price.

Cons: Not the best materials for the cost.
-The cones could definitely be a little higher quality (simply look and feel cheap, but does not seem to distract from the audial quality), even with the price as it were.
-The dust caps suffer from the same issue as the cones.
-The speaker feet are very plain and could have been designed better to give a bit more stability and support.
-My biggest disappointment aesthetically though is the extremely tacky looking veneer that is used (I believe the veneer actually looks better in the pictures then it does in person). Now, I will say that in the past the only floor standing speakers I have ever owned have been Polk Audio's (several Monitor series and the Tsx 330s and 440s) but I have bought and sold everything from inexpensive Pioneers to higher end Klipsch References and several other companies in between. Yet to date, I feel that these JBLs have the worst looking and feeling veneer compared to even some of the lower end Pioneers and similar. I am not sure if it is the zebra look to the the JBL veneer (which happens when the light hits the veneer just right) or simply that it appears utterly unimpressive to that of Polk and Klipsch veneers, but whichever is the reason for this distaste it does seem certain that had JBL simply spent a couple dollars more then the aesthetically quality of the 190s would at least come closer to matching its audial quality. Unfortunately, as JBL did not do this the end result seems to be a terrific sounding speaker with only a mediocre at best finish.

Other Thoughts: Once again, let me just reiterate that for the price (probably anywhere under $150), the JBL Studio 190s are likely the best value currently out there for fairly decent quality speakers. Also, unlike a few folks, I think these speakers are quite neat to look at (with and without the cloth grills) especially if you are going for a more modern or contemporary look, as I was.
However, with all the positives attributes these speakers offer in terms of the audial quality and the fashionable design I am hard pressed to give these speakers anything over 3 stars due to what seems to be some rather cheap materials being utilized in the construction. Now, from what I can tell the lesser quality materials do not actually impact any of the sound being produced or hinder the actual rigidity or integrity of the speaker cabinet, but such materials nonetheless really take away, at least for me, from what these speakers could have been (not just good quality sound but a good looking speaker as well).
To conclude, awesome sound and price but could have been substantially better aesthetically if just a little more money and time had been put into the final design in regards to the materials that were used.

5 out of 5 eggsThese speakers will expose the weak parts of your system

Pros: Purchased these speakers a little over 1 year ago. As a previous owner of JBL speakers, L26's many years ago, I was familiar with the JBL sound. These 190's did not disappoint! Crisp airy highs and thunderous lows with a fast attack that makes rock and modern music sizzle. Yet, put on some classical and the strings sound as if they are in the room with you - with all the texture of a live performance. Truly amazing. What's even more amazing is that there must have been a break in period because they sound even better now.

Cons: These speakers will expose flaws in other areas of your system. It exposed the horrible truth about surround sound receivers (typically those retailing for less than $2,500); they have distortion figures that are worse than the cheapest stereo receivers of just a few years ago. If you have the 190's as mains, try this: 1. Switch to stereo (many surround receivers started life as stereo then through 'wire magic' and marketing they became SS). Play some of your favorite music and movies. Listen carefully. After I did so, I started scanning the classified, searching local pawn shops etc. looking for a quality (older) STEREO receiver or integrated amp. Found a Kenwood integrated amp (from the late 80's-early 90's. Although it is only rated at 60 watts per channel, the difference is breathtaking! Clean sound is better than surround can ever be, unless you have deeeeep pockets! I gave away my receiver to a tin-eared friend. By the way; I paid $35 for the amp at a pawn shop. These speakers are so good they force you to step up your game.

Other Thoughts: If you provide these speakers with the requisite level of components, you will then understand the true meaning of audiophile!

5 out of 5 eggsQuintessential JBL Sound

Pros: Excellent sound quality. JBL has built their brand over decades using time-tested, quality components, and it shows in the Studio 190s. The tonal accuracy, bass response, and overall "sweet" quality of these loudspeakers is nothing short of amazing. At Newegg's prices, these are an absolute steal.

Cons: They weren't free-er?

Other Thoughts: Having owned several sets of Hi-Fi speakers over the years, I can say these are truly excellent. They easily dominate anything I've owned previously, and that's with my little N A D 7125 25-watt integrated amp running them! If you can buy these, do so. They will not disappoint you.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeakers sound great....

Pros: Don't take up a lot of space but produce rich sound....

Cons: None to speak of...

Other Thoughts: The package was damaged in shipping but there was no damage to the speaker itself. They are a tad heavy to get out of the box but once set up there should not be much reason to move them around much...all in all a great speaker for advanced home audio...

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I wanted

Pros: They live up to the name. JBL!
Nothing but HiFi. I have my system as follows:
RX-V673 Yamaha 7.2 AVR
JBL Studio 1 Series Studio 120c Center
JBL Studio 1 Series Studio 190 x2 Front L/R
Cerwin Vegas(6" woofer& 1" tweeter) x2 SL/SR
JBL Studio 1 Series Studio 130 x2 RL/RR

The CV's were inherited into the assembly, but are great sounding bookshelf speakers and I can't say I regret placing them as surrounds.

After a bit of YPAO calibrating and some of my own, I got it sounding just right. YPAO did a splendid job of getting it in the ballpark -- probably even better than that.

As for these 190's, they are everything I wanted them to be. I originally had everything at first but them in a 5-channel set-up, but I really felt that the front sound stage was lacking in fullness. These bad boys really widen it and have a great dynamic range. The clarity is superb. From music to movies, everything is so crisp and immersive.

Cons: Ordered 2 190's and one of them had a bit of a scuff. This has been noted by many others all over the web. I think it is mostly due to the design and the weight of the speakers working against it when combined with shipping and its unpredictability. To sum that bit, stuff happens. I'm fine with the scuff as it is not noticeable when you're on the couch and it's where it needs to be. ;)

Other Thoughts: I did not try bi-amping the 190's but I haven't felt the need to. Also, I don't think it's worth dumbing down to a 5 channel from a 7 so easily. I would try bi-amping in my free time, and if it advantageous, as I've heard it helps power these beasts, I will consider going a step or two higher on my next avr. I would have to get a 9 or 11 channel avr and use 4 on the front 2 surrounds in active bi-amping. But like I said, I am extremely happy with what I have now, so there's that. :)

5 out of 5 eggsamazing

Pros: phenominal quality crisp highs that arent overpowering. have used them for both theatrical and musical listening, perform phenominally well in both mediums. mids are clear and distortion free.

Cons: the 6.5 produces rather low frequencies but certainly want to add a sub to fill in the gap.

5 out of 5 eggsReal happy with them

Pros: Great sound. Nice ans slim. Excellent price. Truly enjoying the audio experience these speakers provide. Can't wait to get a more powerful amp to really drive these speakers

Cons: Originally ordered 2 (1 pair) and 1 came with a marred cabinet and speaker cover. Wasn't horrible, but becuase they were brand new, we decided to RMA them. We recieved another speaker to replace it, and there was similair damage on the third one, but not as bad, so we decided to keep it.

Other Thoughts: Not sure why the left cabinet of 2 of these speakers were marred in almost the same place, but it must be something to do with the factory boxing process or something, becuase both boxes came from UPS with no evident damage on the outside.
