Equipped with low-frequency woofers and midrange drivers featuring high-output PolyPlas cones, and CMMD Lite tweeter domes with exclusive Bi-Radial waveguides, Studio 180 systems offer exceptional clarity and realism with outstanding bass response. You will hear voices and sounds that you might never have realized were there!

  • newegg 25 – 360 watts suggested amplifier power range The Studio 180 delivers enhanced, room-filling sound from a compatible AVR (audio/video receiver) or 25- to 360-watt power amplifier, whether you are using the Studio 180 as a stand-alone unit or as part of a surround-sound system.
  • newegg Ribbed PolyPlas low-frequency cone The ribbed construction of the 6-1/2-inch (165-millimeter) PolyPlas cone improves the Studio 180’s strength while reducing its low-frequency distortion. A lightweight alloy allows for precise movement, ensuring that bass instruments always sound powerful but never “boomy.”
  • newegg Midrange driver housed in sub-enclosure To prevent sound interference from the upper and lower frequencies, the JBL Studio 180 floorstanding loudspeaker’s 4-inch (100-millimeter) PolyPlas midrange driver features a separate sub-enclosure. And that’s not all – a lightweight alloy such as the PolyPlas material allows for precise cone movement to maximize sound clarity, especially on voices.
  • newegg Unique CMMD Lite 1" (25mm) tweeter The CMMD high-frequency tweeter starts as an aluminum dome that is sandwiched on either side with ceramic. The result is strong enough to hold its shape when moving rapidly yet light enough to eliminate unwanted resonances. What your ears notice, however, is subtle, clear detail and lasting, unsullied sound performance.
  • newegg Exclusive Bi-Radial waveguide The Studio 180’s Bi-Radial waveguide disperses high frequencies widely without loss of quality or accuracy, making sure that listening to the JBL Studio 180 loudspeakers is a great experience anyplace where you happen to be listening in the room.
  • newegg Magnetically shielded for video proximity Loudspeakers use magnets. Your TV hates magnets. But that doesn’t mean that you have to listen to movies on your television set’s often inadequate loudspeaker. Nor do you have to compromise your HDTV’s high-definition capabilities. The Studio 180 is optimized for inspired performance and magnetically shielded to prevent any interference with video sources.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good Home Theater Speaker

Pros: They sound OK in 2 channel stereo with music. You can play them loud and they don't complain except for boomy bass.

Cons: Used in home theater the vocals were very hard to understand. The bass is boomy and the treble is muffled. They are very big and the appearance is questionable.

Other Thoughts: I wanted something that was good in 2.0 channel as well as home theater. I own 2 other sets of speakers that the egg sells, and these just don't compare. If you don't mind EQing them you can get decent sound, Just the vocal frequency range is bad for spoken material. I was really disappointed in these. They are currently in my basement used for 2 channel music and are OK for that.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, I bought them when they were on sale for dirt cheap. They go loud and weigh a decent bit like... they should, for their class.

Cons: Ugly.. might be somebodies style, not mine. I don't know what the crossover point of the "subwoofer" drivers are but I am guessing way to high to be mounted so low in the cabinet. Creates a very distracting sound, void spot in the upper bass frequencies. I have got to think that if they just built a normal tower out of these drivers (minus all the plastic junk mounted on the front) and moved the bottom driver up that they would sound a lot better.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: Price
Solid Bass
Good midrange
Good high end
Not harsh or bright
Heard some things in songs not heard before which is nice

Cons: Bass while solid can be slightly muddy with certain songs
Speakers sound a bit restrained as though they would like to open up but can't.
Crossover frequencies quoted here on Newegg and on JBL spec sheet does not match what actual owners manuals shows.
The price is $20 less now than I paid two weeks ago. :)

Other Thoughts: At the current sale price of $220 shipped for a pair it's hard to knock them. They have good bass imo unless you prefer seriously boomy bass like a 8-10" woofer would provide. I'm actually glad I bought the 180's as I would have purchased the 190's were they available. The bass is not tight like the Martin Logan Motion 12's I bought two weeks before these, but it's not bad either.

I bought these for my basement setup. They are very good for home theater and solid for stereo music listening. The only reason I can't give a 5 rating is because the sound just doesn't wow me overall. I think the ML Motion 12's spoiled me for smooth detailed sound but you can't expect speakers half the price to provide the same performance.

They may open up after break in and if they do I will update my review. If I was on a budget and looking for very good speakers at a great price I would buy them again.

1 out of 5 eggsGood sound quality, but internal resonance flaw.

Pros: Overall sound quality good. Newegg handled the return of these speakers with no problems.

Cons: Internal vibration/rattle from mid-range enclosure. Ugly cabinet design.

Other Thoughts: These speakers had an overall sound quality that was very good. Bass response was good, but there in lied the problem. If you have a receiver that can produce a good amount of bass, both speakers had a vibration and/or rattle coming from the mid range area of the cabinet. JBL states the mid-range speaker has it's own enclosure inside the cabinet, and I believe there in lies the problem. If you push a lot of bass from these, that enclosure has some resonance to it. At first I thought something was vibrating on the stand next to the speakers, but I then realized it was coming from the speaker itself. Might not be an issue if your receiver can't push much bass, such as a Yamaha, but with the Onkyo I had these hooked to, it was a real annoyance. Had to return the pair and newegg was very good with the return process. I'll stick with Polk in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsJBL Studio 180 Tower Speaker

Pros: Sound, looks, build quality, price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Unbelievable price for the quality of this speaker. Easily worth twice the price being asked here. Ordered two of these Wednesday and had them before the weekend. Thanks Newegg. Great service, even better price for a quality product.

5 out of 5 eggsCorrect height is 40"

Pros: JBL

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Just a note, so you won't have to search, the correct height according to the mfr website is 40". (Sorry I'm breaking my own rule of not rating an item if you don't own it).
