Equipped with low-frequency woofers and midrange drivers featuring high-output PolyPlas cones, and CMMD Lite tweeter domes with exclusive Bi-Radial waveguides, Studio 180 systems offer exceptional clarity and realism with outstanding bass response. You will hear voices and sounds that you might never have realized were there!

  • newegg 25 – 360 watts suggested amplifier power range The Studio 180 delivers enhanced, room-filling sound from a compatible AVR (audio/video receiver) or 25- to 360-watt power amplifier, whether you are using the Studio 180 as a stand-alone unit or as part of a surround-sound system.
  • newegg Ribbed PolyPlas low-frequency cone The ribbed construction of the 6-1/2-inch (165-millimeter) PolyPlas cone improves the Studio 180’s strength while reducing its low-frequency distortion. A lightweight alloy allows for precise movement, ensuring that bass instruments always sound powerful but never “boomy.”
  • newegg Midrange driver housed in sub-enclosure To prevent sound interference from the upper and lower frequencies, the JBL Studio 180 floorstanding loudspeaker’s 4-inch (100-millimeter) PolyPlas midrange driver features a separate sub-enclosure. And that’s not all – a lightweight alloy such as the PolyPlas material allows for precise cone movement to maximize sound clarity, especially on voices.
  • newegg Unique CMMD Lite 1" (25mm) tweeter The CMMD high-frequency tweeter starts as an aluminum dome that is sandwiched on either side with ceramic. The result is strong enough to hold its shape when moving rapidly yet light enough to eliminate unwanted resonances. What your ears notice, however, is subtle, clear detail and lasting, unsullied sound performance.
  • newegg Exclusive Bi-Radial waveguide The Studio 180’s Bi-Radial waveguide disperses high frequencies widely without loss of quality or accuracy, making sure that listening to the JBL Studio 180 loudspeakers is a great experience anyplace where you happen to be listening in the room.
  • newegg Magnetically shielded for video proximity Loudspeakers use magnets. Your TV hates magnets. But that doesn’t mean that you have to listen to movies on your television set’s often inadequate loudspeaker. Nor do you have to compromise your HDTV’s high-definition capabilities. The Studio 180 is optimized for inspired performance and magnetically shielded to prevent any interference with video sources.

4 out of 5 eggsWhat a deal

Pros: Well constructed cabinets and drivers. Very good low end and balanced by a bright high end that's not shrill.

Cons: The speaker covers are kind of ugly, with the cheap plastic look.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe I got these for $80 a piece. They would be a good deal at twice the price. Now I have to upgrade my cheap-@ssed Pioneer receiver so I can put these puppies through their paces. I can say this though, that the sound and volume I get out of these before the Pioneer starts to clip was very much beyond my expectations. Two segregated 6 1/2 drivers delivered decent low to mid-range and the dome tweeter is good at delivering a smooth but brilliant high-end. If you can get these speakers anywhere under $125, you'd be a fool not to by them as they sound a lot better that many speakers I have heard at twice that price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers for all applications.

Pros: Great bass response. Unique design that looks good with grilles on. Provides a great sound stage. Great price on these.

Cons: A bit unstable on carpet. Unique design that looks weird with grilles off.

Other Thoughts: These speakers are great for 2 channel stereo, providing plenty of bass response. Also great in a home theater set up. Couple these with the Studio 120c center channel, which is also a great speaker, and you have a fantastic front 3 speakers. The deep, rich sound the studio 180's put out is exceptional at this price range. The price I paid is so low for such quality sound that I probably should have bought a second pair. Don't waste more money on the 190's, as they both share the same frequency response. I also have the Infinity Primus P363's and the JBL Studio 180's are better.

5 out of 5 eggsI Stole Them

Pros: Small footprint, Solid construction, Pictures looks are deceiving. Designed to rock!

Cons: Bass is commanding depending on placement, overly bright on some recoedings

Other Thoughts: My box intended for these is out of order at the present so I hooked them up to my Onk receiver. Playing in all modes, I thought they were terrible until I had the idea to run the Odyssey setup on the system. They blew me away. I have a set of Modula MT's that i built. They are extremely good speakers and can take you there but they don't like some types of music. The 180's takes those and throws it at you and it pops! I feel like I stole them at Neweggs price. They're mine fair and square now and staying here I can assure you. Can't wait till they finally break in at this point, I'll admit that I'm not a audiophile, I'm a enthusiast. I've heard a lot of systems and though these aren't what I'd call high end, those that like to rock, these will salute you. Someone I think would be a fool not to get these at neweggs price point presently.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat speaker

Pros: sounds very nice comparing them to my klphs vf's ,
lot of bass from a 6.5 woofer, more than I thought would be.
I am very pleased with the sound, have them powered by a Carver 250 watt per channel amplifier.

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: got Tuesday ordered them on Saturday! go newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speaker

Pros: Speaker sounds awesome. For this price it seems incredibly impossible to beat. Great build quality and overall high performing speaker. The lows are much better than expected and the mids and highs are pretty crisp. The speakers are also capable of bi-wiring. This is the ability to run two pairs of cable to each speaker to power the woofer and tweeter/horn separately.

Cons: Sometimes I do wish the highs were a bit more crisp as the lows seem to overpower them, but honestly I can not complain for the price I paid ($200 for the pair and fs). I simply fix this with my receiver settings and EQ on the computer and it sounds great. Also the high bass response I'm getting may be due to the position in my room. They are right in the two corners of my wall, which supposedly increases bass response.

Other Thoughts: I have them in a stereo setup with no subwoofer or surrounds. I was looking at getting a sub, but unless I'm trying to blast my roommates out of the house, I think these are actually just fine. The lows really rumble, almost to the point where I find myself constantly tweaking my EQ depending on the media I'm listening to. It's currently paired with an Onkyo receiver connected via Toslink audio cable.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good Home Theater Speaker

Pros: They sound OK in 2 channel stereo with music. You can play them loud and they don't complain except for boomy bass.

Cons: Used in home theater the vocals were very hard to understand. The bass is boomy and the treble is muffled. They are very big and the appearance is questionable.

Other Thoughts: I wanted something that was good in 2.0 channel as well as home theater. I own 2 other sets of speakers that the egg sells, and these just don't compare. If you don't mind EQing them you can get decent sound, Just the vocal frequency range is bad for spoken material. I was really disappointed in these. They are currently in my basement used for 2 channel music and are OK for that.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, I bought them when they were on sale for dirt cheap. They go loud and weigh a decent bit like... they should, for their class.

Cons: Ugly.. might be somebodies style, not mine. I don't know what the crossover point of the "subwoofer" drivers are but I am guessing way to high to be mounted so low in the cabinet. Creates a very distracting sound, void spot in the upper bass frequencies. I have got to think that if they just built a normal tower out of these drivers (minus all the plastic junk mounted on the front) and moved the bottom driver up that they would sound a lot better.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: Price
Solid Bass
Good midrange
Good high end
Not harsh or bright
Heard some things in songs not heard before which is nice

Cons: Bass while solid can be slightly muddy with certain songs
Speakers sound a bit restrained as though they would like to open up but can't.
Crossover frequencies quoted here on Newegg and on JBL spec sheet does not match what actual owners manuals shows.
The price is $20 less now than I paid two weeks ago. :)

Other Thoughts: At the current sale price of $220 shipped for a pair it's hard to knock them. They have good bass imo unless you prefer seriously boomy bass like a 8-10" woofer would provide. I'm actually glad I bought the 180's as I would have purchased the 190's were they available. The bass is not tight like the Martin Logan Motion 12's I bought two weeks before these, but it's not bad either.

I bought these for my basement setup. They are very good for home theater and solid for stereo music listening. The only reason I can't give a 5 rating is because the sound just doesn't wow me overall. I think the ML Motion 12's spoiled me for smooth detailed sound but you can't expect speakers half the price to provide the same performance.

They may open up after break in and if they do I will update my review. If I was on a budget and looking for very good speakers at a great price I would buy them again.
