4 out of 5 eggsA Good receiver

Pros: Good sound, gets loud and pumps plenty of lower level sound. Attractive cabinet that does not distract from the TV sitting above it. Remote matches my Samsung TV remote. Anynet feature works well with my TV. Support for firmware updates is nice.

The auto calibration feature is nice. A mic comes in the box so you can have the receiver set itself up for your room. Can set individual speaker sizes, distances and levels. I had to turn up the SW level in order to get a balanced sound, but to each his own. Plenty of optical connectors and HDMI ports. Decent price compared to Sony, Yamaha and Onkyo.

Cons: Settings menu can be somewhat cryptic. Took me a few seconds to figure out how to change HDMI sources. Turns out I didn't have to (because the receiver will realize where the signal is coming from), but the manual didn't tell me that. Doesn't have A/B speaker settings like the Sony I looked at.

Other Thoughts: I can't emphasize how much better this receiver is than some of the other electronics out there in terms of looks. I simply appreciate that there are no loud bright LEDs.

The sound balance is pretty good, but I would appreciate better control (aside from sound levels of the individual speakers and PLII, the only tone controls are Bass and Treble. No High, Mid, Low settings).

I cannot comment on the iPod interface because I stream my music from my mac, but i would imagine it would be like any other receiver system.

This receiver has component video in, but I could not figure out where to put the matching audio cables. I just connected that device to my TV instead and piped the sound through the TV to the TV in optical port on the receiver and it seems to work okay.

Overall, a good product so far. Four eggs for the tricky setup, but once I got it dialed in, it sounded great.

4 out of 5 eggsSleek and well performing Receiver

Pros: Ipod dock inluded.
3D ready.
Unbeatable price.
Small form factor.
Plenty of HDMI inputs.
Packs quite a punch for a digital amplifier.
No issues with over-heating even when driven at high volume for long periods of time.
Sleekest looking amp I have ever seen.
Illuminated touch controls are very sci-fi.
Automatic speaker calibration is spot on.
Software upgradable via USB.

Cons: Ipod control is lacking, no playlist support.
iPod video not through HDMI so have to connect another composite cable to the TV.
No upscaling.
Have to keep the volume level high to get the same feel as my older JVC amp.
Can't get my harmony 550 remote to control the amp properly (but that could be something that I am not setting up correctly, or the Harmony website doesn't have all the specs for this amp yet).

Other Thoughts: Main reason I went for this was because my contemporary media console cannot fit any component taller than a 6". And comparing the few amps that are 6" and less this one was the best and packed with the most features. The combo pack that newegg has with the bluray dvd player BD-C5500 is just unbeatable.
This is certainly not audiophile quality amp but if you want something like that you will have to shell out close to a grand. This one gives you the best bang for the buck IMHO.
