4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Blu-Ray w/ features

Pros: Overall pretty simple plug it in watch movies... HDMI 1080p all the stuff you'd expect. Remote and navigation are good. Using it for BD, DVD, Pandora or Netflix. I bought two one land lined and another wireless I don't really notice a huge differnece (a good thing).

Cons: The native music/media hub does not seem to recognise any playlist nor allow you to create one that traverses sub-directories. Kinda of a pain if you have a large digtial library of your own and want to use this as the hub. Doesn't do the better WAP2 on wireless as well.

Other Thoughts: The My Hub area is a little over kill for me as most of the functions that are here are things I use my win tablet for.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Blu-ray Player for the Money!

Pros: Load time is faster than others.
Picture is great.
Easy Netflix button.
Tons of features to explore.

Cons: Netflix interface could be better, but that's just me being nit-picky.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid Samsung like the plague

Pros: Samsung App store is fun to play with, this device has it.

Cons: After about a week the Wifi quit working, so I had to switch over to the wired setup, I had cables there already so I didn't really care, worked fine for about 3 months then it stoped playing Blue-Ray's and DVD's altogether, so today I decided to send it in for warranty repair Samsung doesn't pay for shipping for warranty repairs anymore, I had to pay for shipping.

Other Thoughts: lag-e menu system.
Wifi adapter burned out.
Drive light burned out.
Under very light use.
Poorly written firmware.

1 out of 5 eggsjunk stay far away from these

Pros: worked out of the box.

Cons: don't work much longer than just past the warranty. I have three of these, picked up third just before first one died. All are past warranty they just boot to the Samsung screen and stay there, nothing you do can fix, except pay Samsung $80+shipping to flash roms.

Other Thoughts: I have replaced with LG players and no issues yet... Stay far away from Samsung, of course I bought them when they were priced $250+

5 out of 5 eggsBD-5700

Pros: Easy installation, great picture and sound, lots of apps available, only tried netflix and MLB so far but both look good.
Was a birthday present for my dad, and since my parents aren't great with tech it seems very user friendly for them and walks through everything

Cons: Doesn't come with an HDMI cable which not a big deal just ordered one elsewhere but it still would have been nice to see one come with it. Light weight feels kinds of flimsy so I'm hesitant to move around a lot.
Makes some noises while loading a disc, going to watch that, I'm hoping its just menu loading sounds need to read a little more on it.

Other Thoughts: I read a lot of reviews on the BD-5700 here and elsewhere, and as such I meant to order a different samsung BluRay player for my parents, but messed up and ordered this one instead, so far I've been pleasantly surprised. A lot of people are complaining about load times and such for the internet on this model. However my parents already have terrible internet so load times are actually not nearly what i was expecting.

2 out of 5 eggsHalf a product

Pros: Nice design. Very nice remote. The stars are for the bluray player half of the box. That works just fine.

Cons: The WiFi half of the box. I paid extra for a WiFi version intending to use that feature to stream broadcast TV programs captured to mpg files with an AverMedia USB tuner on a desktop PC 40 feet from the TV. I installed several free media servers (Serviio, TVMobili, PS3MediaServer, TVersity, and Samsung's PC Share Manager) on that machine to provide content to the D5700. While the D5700 WiFi does work and can locate the files, playback has limitations that make it useless for my purpose. 1 -- you cannot skip, fast forward or reverse the stream: press the >> or << button on the remote and the box gives you an error message, feature not available. 2 -- no way to display closed captions. 3 -- when streaming HD programs, playback stops every 5 or 10 sec and a message says Loading.... That stays up for 5-10 seconds and then playback resumes for another 5 or 10 sec.

Other Thoughts: Until another couple of software updates make the WiFi feature do what I need it to do the product gets two stars. For now I will stick with my current setup, which uses an old laptop sitting next to the TV and running PC media player software (GOM, VLC, Media Player Classic, XBMC etc.) to stream the captured programs. Not an elegant solution, but it has all the features I wish the D5700 had: slider bar for positioning playback point (or at least FF and reverse), cc (VLC only), and smooth playback.

4 out of 5 eggsFirmware update = Thumbs Up

Pros: I purchased this because I wanted a bluray player that has internal wifi. The wifi works pretty well after a firmware update, and I was happy with the added bonus that it loads blu-ray discs in something like 10 to 30 seconds. It is a tremendous improvement over my old BDP-1400 which is nearly 4 years old, and still works.

With the exception of the initial loading of bluray discs this player is very quiet. The smart hub graphic user interface is very well designed, and simple to understand. WIFI setup is a breeze. A child could do it just follow the on screen instructions, and it practically sets itself up.

Netflix works very smoothly once the firmware is updated, even with other devices sharing the wifi channel through walls around corners and 25 feet away.

It was inexpensive, has decent audio, and very nice video, and the wifi performance following the firmware update is tolerable, and plays reliabely.

Cons: Prior to the firmware update the wifi performance was terrible. After the firmware update there is still a greater delay periods on Netflix, when it comes to loading tiles, or loading videos compared to a laptop. There is somewhat of an intermittent delay when using the remote to search Netflix.

Other Thoughts: Re: Cons, a laptops or desktop on decent wifi will load faster than this bluray player, but I now have freed up the laptop, and I didn't have to spend, thousands of dollars on a HTPC, or crawl under the house to install an ethernet cable.
