4 out of 5 eggsGood Player, Great Price

Pros: Works just great with my Tier I ADSL connection and my Sanyo HD-TV (as long as our other devices aren't uploading huge files). You gotta give this little guy some bit room. ;) Do that, follow the instructions and you shouldn't have any problems. In case of problems, remember Google is your friend. I stream Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, BBC, Discovery and others.

Cons: The interface is a bit clunky but it works. Be patient!

1 out of 5 eggsBad firmware issue

Pros: Great picture and sound when it works. Easy to hook up to the television and wireless network. Great look and slim design.

Cons: I purchased this item as a Christmas gift for my father and mother-in-laws and was immediately faced with sound playback issues. The first disc I tried was National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. While the picture came out just fine, there was absolutely no sound. I of course did all the hardest parts first, trying different HDMI ports on the TV, messed with the sound input settings, etc. and still couldn't get any sound to play. Only after I exhausted all of these options did I think about trying a different movie and poof, it worked. I took the seemingly faulty blu ray to my house and tried it on both my standalone blu ray player and my PS3 and it worked, picture and sound, just fine.

Thinking of course it could need to be updated, I did a firmware update on the Samsung player, tried to movie again and still no sound. I tried two other blu ray movies, Let The Right One In and Looper and neither movie had any sound, but when I tried The Expendables it worked as did all the DVD movies I tried. I contacted Samsung's live technical support on their site and explained each step I took and what I did to try and rule out an issue with the player. Of course, I was asked to tried each and every thing I told them I already tried. After twenty minutes of repeating myself was I told this is a firmware issue and I needed to wait for a firmware update to fix the problem. When I asked this person for an ETA on this update I was told there was no planned time in the near future and I just had to "wait".

Other Thoughts: I find this completely unacceptable and feel as if I just gave this company for a faulty product and just have to "wait" till they get around to fixing the problem. I wasn't given anything for my frustration or my time/money wasted on this product which upsets me. While I have been a big fan of most other Samsung products I've purchased in the past, my television, SSD and laptop this whole situation left a sour taste in my mouth. While it's nice to see some people are having no issues with their players, it'd seem that a growing number of people are coming forward with concerns about theirs. I'd suggest that if you're in the market for a blu ray player, you avoid this one till they fix the problem.

2 out of 5 eggsSamsung has let me down

Pros: Simple to use a good introductory Blu Ray player. I liked the ease of adding a hard drive so I could play my digital movies as well. Netflix streaming ability.

Cons: Netflix streaming...a great feature, but it spent more time buffering then actually playing.

A major con...I bought the 1st in April and loved it, so I bought 3 more in October (one for my bedroom, one as a gift for my parents and one for my roommate). The initial one stopped playing Blu Ray's in November and the one for my bedroom stopped playing Blu Ray's in December. Samsung's technical support is a joke. I finally got them to agree that it needed to come in for repair as not one of the troubleshooting steps fixed the problem and it even said point blank on their website that it needed to go in for service (after minimal use????) So, I set up the service and Samsung advised that it's going to cost me another 10.00 to ship the machine back to them. Seriously? I've owned this machine from October to December and you're charging me another 10.00 for it? I'm sorry, I know it's petty, but the way Samsung treated me and the quality of the player has guaranteed me that I'll never purchase another Samsung item again. If I could return the other 2, I would. Save yourself aggregation and purchase a better quality player.

Other Thoughts: It's really sad that Samsung feels the need to gouge their customers even more for items that are not even a year...heck, not even six months old before they break.

2 out of 5 eggsnot impressed

Pros: bought this to upgrade from my old samsung BD-C5500 blu-ray player, should have stayed with the older model. price was decent when i bought it, quiet, and small. no issues w/ blu-ray playback

Cons: there is a stutter when resuming DVD playback after pausing it, but resuming blu-ray playback seems ok.

unable to watch anything on netflix, constantly stopped to buffer. new player is in the same location as my old player, and wifi strenght is just about full signal but it can't even play a 30min TV episode w/o buffering at least 10x. same after 3 firmware updates.

i have a NAS drive connected to my router, about 80% of the videos wouldn't play, said wasn't a compatible format even though they all played perfectly on the old player. after most recent firmware update i don't even see ANY of the video files on my NAS listed anymore, list is completely empty now. it doesn't even show me the folders on the NAS, except 1, but theres no videos listed in that folder either.

tried to download the samsung remote app for my samsung android phone so i could use the phone as a remote for my samsung blu ray player but the app isn't compatible w/ my phone...?

Other Thoughts: straight DVD or blu-ray playback is fine, pretty much every other feature i bought this player to use is unusable. i wish i had stayed with the BD-C5500, much better player. all features worked perfectly.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks but slow

Pros: Does what it's supposed to. I've used it on wireless and wired with no problems. There seem to be a lot of apps available from Samsung that you can download but I haven't tried them all.

Cons: Very slow. I don't know what the processor is in this thing but it's not powerful enough. It takes about 20-30 seconds to turn on and boot up. There is a noticeable and annoying delay when moving through the menus. Sometimes I hit a button twice because I think it's not responding but then it jumps past where I was trying to go. It takes around 45 seconds to load the Netflix or Pandora apps. However, it works fine once you start playing a song or a movie.

Other Thoughts: Works fine if you have the patience to wait
