5 out of 5 eggsreally great

Pros: Bought this for my parents for christmas and they are really enjoying it. The menus and apps run a lot smoother on this version versus Samsung's earlier version (5500). Felt like keeping this one and giving them our 5500... lol

Cons: Menus and apps are still a little slow... wish they would run smoother.

2 out of 5 eggsHulu App Kaput

Pros: This is a good 3D Blu-ray player with Samsung's SmartHub capability. Overall a pretty good player. Unfortunately this players software issues and Samsung's poor support makes this specific player a no-go.

Cons: The SmartHub implementation on this player is buggy, and Samsung's message board is full of complaints about it. Especially the Hulu app, which simply does not work. Samsung has received a lot of complaints about this, but seems to be in a state of denial.

Other Thoughts: I own three Samsung's SmartHub devices, a Samsung 40in 1080p 120Hz 3D Slim LED Smart TV (UN40ES6500F), Samsung BD-EM59C 3-d Blu-ray Disc Player and this Samsung BD-E5900 3-d Blu-ray Disc Player. The UN40ES6500F & BD-EM59C work great, the BD-E5900 has problems with a number of apps especially the Hulu app. So the failure of the Samsung BD-E5900 3-d Blu-ray Disc Player's Hulu app is an issue of the player, not the network or connection.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Player, No Complaints

Pros: The Wifi and Netflix features are very nice to have, and aren't any different than the Samsung TVs with the wifi and SMART features built in. In fact, the wifi on the blue ray player might be better than Samsung TVs with the WIFI for Netflix built in.

Cons: None so far.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Connects to the web.

Cons: Has had trouble playing disks from the very first day. I was hoping it would 'wear in' and play them better but that didn't happen. This is the first bad product I can remember getting from newegg. Not their fault. If I can return it I will, in the meantime I'm going to order something else.

2 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

Pros: Looks good, easy to set up, great picture while it worked.

Cons: There was something wrong with this unit from the get-go, but ultimately it connected with our Samsung (after a 4" vertical drop) and I was able to set it up and get it online and we watched one movie, but the next weekend we tried to watch another movie and the TV could no longer see the player's signal.

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping this was an isolated bad unit, and we're going to try this same player again.

4 out of 5 eggsMy first review ever...

Pros: Its got plenty of Apps.
Built In Wifi works great, streams everything flawlessly.
Plays many file types.
The new UI.

Cons: The way it was shipped to me was just the Bluray box and thats it no newegg box and was left on my steps so everyone could see I had a Bluray player sitting outside.

No 2d to 3D conversion

Other Thoughts: At this point in time I feel all 2012 BD players should be coming with built in wifi.

If this had the 2d to 3d conversion it would be better than the BD-D5500 I have

4 out of 5 eggsSetup Issues

Pros: Feature rich player does everything I want. I haven't explored all of the online/WiFi options, but it does everything I need it to do.

Cons: Setup was a struggle because the audio options - by default - are wrong.

There are couple of things that need to be changed before it will work with a 5.1 (and I am assuming also a 7.1) system.

PCM vs Bitstream. Default = PCM. Bitstream required for 5.1

Also there is a parameter to - again by default - down-covert all audio to regular stereo. The manual seems to have been written in Japanese, then translated to Chinese then translated to English. Even the online help "debug audio settings" was incomplete.

It wasn't a crisis, but it is annoying

Other Thoughts: Overall, I guess I am happy with the purchase.
