Surround Your 3D Video with Powerful, Realistic Sound.

Connect the AVR-1712 7.1 HD-Audio receiver to a TV and Blu-ray disc player supporting 3D video and you’ll be able to experience an exciting 3D theatre with powerful surround sound. The AVR-1712 lets you enjoy a program source in the Main Zone (the room where the AVR-1712 is located) and in Zone 2 (another room). Setup is extremely easy as the AVR-1712’s Setup Wizard guides you through the procedures for setting the language, speakers connections and other items on your TV screen.

  • newegg 7-Channel Equal Power 7-Channel Equal Power is a feature used in various Denon amplifiers to connect 7 speakers independently so that separate power amps connected via pre-outs are not required. It allows you to connect the second 'surround back' speaker to complement the surround back speaker for 6.1, straight off the main amplifier without adding a power amplifier to support 7.1 surround formats. Amplifiers with 7-Channel Equal Power have built-in separate internal amplifiers to power each channel independently, thus allowing you to enjoy the same high power output capability per channel, giving a balanced and truly high-impact surround-sound environment.
  • newegg 7-Channel Stereo Denon's 7-Channel Stereo mode enables top quality normal two channel stereo output from the surround speakers to provide a unique 7 channel stereo option. This mode can be fully utilized from any high quality stereo source via CD, tape, FM-radio or video recorder for dynamic 7-channel output. The 7-channel stereo is available if you have a surround back right speaker connected as well as the surround back left speaker used in 6.1, otherwise you can still experience multi-channel stereo output using a 5-channel-stereo or 6-channel-stereo configuration.
  • newegg Auto Set-Up/Room EQ Adjust The Auto Set-Up/Room EQ Adjust feature eases setup hassles by confirming speaker phase, assessing the sizes of all of your speakers, measuring speaker-to-listener distances, and balancing speaker levels. With the Denon DM-A405, DM-S205 or DM-S305 calibration-grade microphone (some optional) placed in your favorite listening seat, this feature uses a test tone generator and proprietary programming to precisely balance speaker levels and fine-tune the delay and EQ settings for each speaker. The result is optimized system performance for your specific home theater room.
  • newegg Dolby Pro Logic IIz In additon to the support for Doby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, the AVR-1712 is also equipped with a Dolby Pro Logic IIz processor to let you enjoy an even richer spatial expression. By connecting Front Height speakers and using Dolby Pro Logic IIz playback, you will be able to enjoy surround sound in the vertical as well as horizontal direction.
  • newegg Audyssey Dynamic Volume & Audyssey MultEQ XT Audyssey Dynamic Volume solves the problem of large variations in volume level between television programs, commercials, and between the soft and loud passages of movies. The Audyssey MultEQ XT provides advanced room correction and calibration technology. During the Auto Set-Up mode, MultEQ XT automatically determines how many loudspeakers are connected, whether they are connected in phase and whether they are satellites or subwoofers. After processing, it then analyzes and calibrates speaker level, size, and distance. MultEQ XT detects the proper crossover point and determines correct frequency response for up to eight listener positions simultaneously. Denon's implementation of MultEQ XT uses multiple DSP processors with high-end digital-to-analog converters. Both the Room EQ and Auto Set-Up features can be disabled if required. For additional information, you can download an Audyssey MultEQ XT tech note in the download section for the products having the feature.
  • newegg Multi-Room Entertainment System Denons Multi Source function lets you select different audio sources for listening in different locations (some models may have volume adjust only for zone 2). Different sources can thus be enjoyed in the main room (MAIN) and sub-room(s) – ZONE 2, ZONE 3 or ZONE 4 – simultaneously (number of zones is model dependent).

5 out of 5 eggsi love it

Pros: more power than you think you need.
customizable.
6 hdmi inputs
gui
hdmi pass thru

Cons: remote sucks, to be expected.

Other Thoughts: i love this thing. I didnt want all the extra features with the 1912 and 2112. since they all had the same amplifier section and codecs, the 1712 was perfect. rarely does anybody need something like the 3312. but im sure it is amazing

3 out of 5 eggsWow. What a pain.

Pros: Seems to have great power, the initial set up is foolishly easy. It wants you to wire your speakers one by one while the unit is on! The microphone for the surround set up is pretty cool.

Cons: The HDMI ports have to be 'registered' to work. You're supposed to register them during the initial set up, but the onscreen instructions are NOT clear. If you think you can plug it in, then click the receiver over to that component, you're sadly mistaken. What a complete and total pain in the neck. I've set up stereos for years, going back to when nobody had more than 2 speakers. I spent over 2 hours on this one, and only have the surround working with the DVD. Nothing else. And I can't figure out how to 'register' my cable box, my blue ray player, and other components because I opted out of the set up early. Big mistake. I even printed out the 150 page manual! The remote is ridiculously difficult. No Joke. Nearly everything you want to do includes pressing a silly 'amp' button. WTH? And good luck programming the remote to mirror the remotes for your other components. I finally gave up. It's going to take a while for me to work up another batch of enthusiasm for this thing.

Other Thoughts: I'd send it back if I could. Sadly, I need a receiver with a 2nd zone for stereo speakers and they are SCARCE. I've owned lots of Denon stuff in the past, so jumped on this one because my history has been good. BEWARE!!! It's SERIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. During the speaker set up it gave me a 'caution' notice about speaker phase. Whatever that means. Now I have to figure that out.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it

Pros: I've replaced an aging (1990) yammy, built like a tank, but only does dolby prologic II with this denon unit. I'm using it to route all my video signals (only hdmi now, so easy to manage) it even routes my 3D video signals from my blu ray player. The ARC channel is great since my tv has netflix etc. The sound is rich in warm! (I'm using polk monitor 60's, 30's cs2 center, and a psw505 sub).

The 279 sale price is a steal for a unit with audyssey multEQ XT!

Cons: the menus are confusing at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great clean power. Got it for only $280 and it has the Multieq XT. I have it connected to a set of Martin Logan MLT-1s and it sounds great. Loved the Audesy Multieq XT it made a big difference once I ran it.

Cons: No internet connection (not a con for me since I do not need it an did not want to pay extra for it and get the 2112)
No video upconversion (again no con for me since I did not need it)

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from an onkyo 606 and the Onkyo ran really really hot. The Denon only gets warm. Sound wise is a step up from the Onkyo but I think is most likely because the room correction is a lot better then the one on the Onkyo.

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice

Pros: osd, many HDMI, sound quality, multEQ xt, easy setup

Cons: no video up conversion, remote isn't backlit

Other Thoughts: I chose this over the 1912 because I don't need the internet options and the 1912 doesn't have the multEQ xt. The audyssey mic made the speaker offsets a breeze. The sound is louder and clearer than the Sony 7.1 receiver I replaced. I'm very pleased with this receiver.
