Protect your valuable home theater components from damage and performance problems while saving money on annual electric bills with Tripp Lite's AV10IRG ECO-Surge™ Protector. In one low-profile, cost-effective unit, the AV10IRG provides comprehensive protection for medium to large A/V installations and all electronics. The AV10IRG features an incomparable 6480-joule surge suppression rating—more joules means more protection. A total of 10 rear AC outlets provide the capacity you need to protect all your components. Three-line 2.2 GHz gold coaxial surge protection and single-line tel/modem/Ethernet surge protection safeguard every incoming line through which a damaging surge could reach your equipment. The AV10IRG comes with $250,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance protection for connected equipment and a lifetime product warranty.

Eliminate Phantom Loads

Each power adapter and glowing LED in your home or office represents a potential “phantom load”—power wasted by a device when it isn't being used, even when it appears to be turned off. ECO-Surge eliminates phantom loads by automatically turning off special energy-saving outlets when you turn off the device connected to the "Master" outlet. The energy-saving outlets disconnect phantom loads from any source of electricity, making it impossible for them to waste energy. Other outlets stay on to support devices that operate 24x7, such as DVRs.

AV10IRG Applications
AV10IRG Feature Focus

How the Energy-Saving Feature Works

ECO-Surge detects when you turn off the device connected to the "Master" outlet—typically a computer or television—then turns off the "Power Save" outlets. Turning off the Power Save outlets prevents any phantom loads connected to those outlets from wasting electricity, such as DVD players, gaming consoles and speakers. The "Always On" outlets remain powered to support devices like DVRs, cable/satellite boxes, broadband modems and wireless routers. When you turn on the Master device, the Power Save outlets also turn on and your entire system is ready to use. The ECO-Surge wattage switch ensures reliable operation whether you're using a higher-wattage Master device (such as a television, desktop computer or full-size laptop) or a lower-wattage Master device (such as a Netbook). Simply flip the switch to match your device.

Remote Control Capability

The AV10IRG features an infrared receiver on the front of the unit that receives signals from any infrared remote, allowing you to power on components that are plugged into the ECO "Power Save" outlets.

Protection on Multiple Connections

In addition to AC line protection, the AV10IRG includes a set of RJ45 jacks to prevent surge damage on phone or network connections (6-ft. network cable included) and three sets of gold Type F coax jacks to prevent surges from damaging your cable/satellite equipment (6-ft. coax cable included).

Ultimate Peace of Mind

The AV10IRG comes with $250,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment—guaranteed lifetime protection against damage due to surges, including direct lightning strikes (USA/Canada only). Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage begins the moment you purchase your Tripp Lite surge protector—no forms to fill out or send in. Additionally, all Tripp Lite surge protectors are backed by a lifetime product warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsnot bad

4 out of 5 eggsSurge strips are NOT for lightning

Pros: RJ45 protection

Cons: big spikes still destroy things. these protective devices all need to be replaced after a few years too... though none of them say so!

Other Thoughts: To clear up mis-information, there is *nothing* on this planet which will protect your equipment from a direct strike short of physically unplugging it. I know, it just happened to me lol.

That said, these things work to moderate spikes in voltage which damage equipment. Whether from your refrigerator kicking on or a lightning strike down the street, they can help protect your stuff. But it also depends on how powerful the surge is... and where it originates.

Big plus on RJ45 protection. I lost anything with an ethernet port-- destroyed all ports-- whether something was turned on or not. wish I had had something like this protecting the network from the street-side and from where my 200' run from the garage comes into the house!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsworks as it advertised

Pros: After looking at the reviews here I almost did not buy this product. i decided to give it a chance and I'm happy I did. The product does what it says it will which is cut the power to the not always on outlets after 3 min when it detects a drop of 70% in the power load. It also has the "always on" outlets but only 3 of them. I use it with my home theater system, TV, PS3 etc...
It looks like some reviewers are blaming the product for doing what it was designed to do. If you are trying to upgrade a firmware and turn off the other devices well the outlet is going to shut power because it detected a drop in the power load. If you need to do something sensitive like that it might be a better idea to plug the device in the always on outlet.
The device is very good looking cosmetically. it also shows you the actual amperage (LED display) you are using.
To summarize this the tripp lite works just as it was designed and does what it suppose to do.

Cons: no way to switch it on or off manually (no master switch)

1 out of 5 eggsFlawed Design..... UPDATE

Pros: See my post dated 6-2-2013

Cons: See my post dated 6-2-2013

Other Thoughts: Newegg has agreed to take all 3 units back since their page for this item contains claims that are not true. Kudos to Newegg for doing the right thing.

Manufacturer Response:

It looks like you have already returned your unit but if you would like any additional assistance or have any questions, please contact Tripp Lite’s Chicago-based Tech Support Team at 773-869-1234.

1 out of 5 eggsFlawed Design

Pros: Great concept from a reputable company. Clean design. Cool looking front current readout. Long cord. 10 outlets.

Cons: Unerliable performance... Sometimes the unit stays on for hours of use but usually shuts itself off after 3 to 5 minutes. When I turn it back on, it shuts down quickly. After several restarts it might stay on. I have not yet seen a repeating pattern to this phenomenom. Threads on supplied coax cable defective on one end so had to use one I had lying around. These things happen. It lacks a switch so the energy saving feature can't be switched off.

Other Thoughts: I still beleive this to be a potentially valuable concept but as it is now it is not ready for "prime time". Check the predominantly negative feedback on another major shopping site. I wish I had.
I bought 3 of them. Newegg says since they are covered by the manufacturer's warranty they won't issue a refund. We'll see. I will report back with the final decision.

I can't recommend this unit. Maybe they will get it right in their next model.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly What I Needed

Pros: I did tons of research looking for a surge protector that had at least 10 outlets and at least 3 that were “always on.” The Tripp Lite AV10IRG was the only one I found that fit that bill. I’ve only had it for a few days so I can’t address its long term health, however it does work perfectly and it is exactly what I needed. I needed 3 “always on” outlets for the cable box, my Harmony One remote charger and the external SATA hard drive that’s attached to the cable box to expand the DVR’s disc space. All three must always be on. The seven “switched” outlets control my TV, the TV tuner, the DVD player, the AV receiver, the powered sub-woofer, the Roku box and my wireless headphone charger. Since all of these devices will draw some current when they are individually shut off, I wanted to make sure that all power to these devices would be shut off completely so they wouldn’t draw any power at all. The tripp lite works perfectly and shuts off power to all these devices after three minutes of turning them off. (Note that I use the Harmony One remote to turn everything on and off with one click.) When you turn on your equipment with any remote, the Tripp lite also turns on. This brings me to my only negative comment which is that the unit must be visible to a remote for it to work. It will not turn on unless it is in line-of-site to a remote that you use to turn on any one of your devices. It does not have an on/off button that you could push to turn it on and off. I had hoped to hide the device behind my amp but now I’ve got it on top of my DVD player. No big, but I would have preferred not to see the unit or its minimal read-out lights. Despite this minor irritant, it gets 5 stars from me!

Cons: No on/off button; unit needs to be visible - in line-of-site of a remote
