Not that great of a product
- Pros: Like everyone says, it's easy to configure, as a very simple setup and you're listening to radio
- Cons: also a common complaint the buffer on this is minuscule. I have a decent connection speed, but still ever 30-60 seconds it has to stop play to buffer. This may be the fault of the station, or just clogged pipes, but if the buffer was larger this problem would quickly be damped out.
- Other Thoughts: Obviously it doesn't play flash, which unfortunately for me is how many of my fav stations currently are broadcasting. Don't expect to get any high quality music from this.
IF THEY IMPLEMENT MY IDEA, THIS WILL BE A GREAT PRODUCT!! TILL THEN, A DISMAL ONE EGG.
- Pros: Easy initial set up. Good looks. Clear, simple interface. Low power consumption. Remote is excellent. Manual is decent. For shell-shocker price, the radio was reasonable.
- Cons: Trying to setup wireless with a non-broadcasting SSID wireless router is impossible. Wired use works pretty well.
Not enough of a buffer available. Radio should have an option to buffer a full minute if you so choose...many stations are unlistenable because of this.
But, the BIGGEST issue by far, is trying to add a new station. WHAT WHERE THE ENGINEERS THINKING WHEN THEY SET IT UP LIKE THIS? I MEAN...DUHHHHHHHHHHHH!
- Other Thoughts: HERE IS THE FIX FOR IT:
PLEASE ASUS, TAKE NOTE OF WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN BELOW, IT FIXES THE ISSUE AND COSTS VERY LITTLE. All customers should have a website to enter radio stations they want to put into their radios. A simple text box where they could enter a URL would take your web staff 20 minutes to set up. Then, have a batch that runs nightly which adds all customer added stations to an update. The customers could then update the radio as outlined in the manual and POOF!
See?
The problem would be solved without changing the hardware at all. I cannot fathom that Asus did not do this already.
PLEASE PEOPLE, EMAIL ASUS AND ASK THEM FOR THIS! This radio would be such a great product if the owners could update the listing of radio stations.
Great Idea - Ok Product
- Pros: Setup was pretty easy. Works as advertised 1000s of stations from all over the world. No need for a PC at all. Pretty nice remote. Good wifi connectivity.
- Cons: Time consuming to setup channels not in the existing lists. Looks like lists may not be being maintained well. High price for a radio - should have AM/FM built into it to for the price. It is a radio low quality sound good for low volumes and talk radio. No line in.
- Other Thoughts: This is my second Internet Radio my other is a Livio (see my rating here on Newegg). It is fun checking out stations from all over the world. But if you want to "Just use" an Internet radio you have to spend time up front finding favorites. The Livio is hard wired this one is wifi no real difference. To enjoy higher volume/quality sound you need external speakers for either. The 2 radios have many different stations - kind of funny. Pandora users will want the Livio. I rated the Livio 4 eggs and the Asus 3 eggs because of Pandora. If you don't care about Pandora it would be tough to pick one over the other. I will say it again for the cost these products should also have AM/FM built in with that they would make great counter top radios. I use one in my home office and the other is the Kitchen.
