Nice, but still have some rough corners
- Pros: Excellent video playback. Wide media format support. Many options for media source paths. Will do a slide show and play music from a playlist at the same time. Relatively easy setup. Small, handsome and quiet. Highly portable via internal HDD (not included) or via external USB2 media. Great for going to a friends house with your slides or movies. Just what I wanted.
- Cons: Still many rough corners in the user interface. Photo display is not at the full HD resolution. Slide show lack transition effects and only plays in sorted sequence. Noticable lag in manual slide advance. Cannot fast forward or advance to next song in jukebox.
- Other Thoughts: I have only tried streaming over wired network from my PC. Watched King Kong in DivX5 and saw slow pixel update of a portion of the screen only once. Picture quality was excellent on my 47" LCD via component 1080i. Menu system is not too hard to understand. Company is issuing firmware updates continuously to fix bugs and polish features.
I had no problem having it recognize the 6 different folders that are shared on my PC. I did not have to disable the firewall as the manual suggested either. But I have the LAN IP range designated as trusted in the firewall previously. Quite happy with the video playback part of the unit. But audio and photo playback seems an afterthought. It particularily bothers me that the displayed resolution of photos are not much better than on a regular analog TV. User interface still have quite a few quirks and bugs. For instance, in jukebox mode, all the motion buttons will reset the song. Hopefully future firmware releases will fix these problems.
nice, but you can DIY for cheaper
- Pros: This looks to be a very nice linux-based solution for people who don't know how to configure their own multimedia PC.
- Cons: It's basically a stripped-down PC with TV-out and a wireless card. We took an old PC, put a wireless card in it ($35) and used Ubuntu Media Center Edition (free) and got the same wireless media functionality.
- Other Thoughts: If you're willing to do some research online, you can do the same thing for less or free using an old pc and a multimedia linux distro (Ubuntu MCE, geexbox, etc). However, If you're willing to pay for the convenience, this looks like an elegant solution.

Not bad.....Not bad at all
- Pros: looks gr8, networking options, additional usb inputs, coustom background WOW!
- Cons: some of the files when fast forward button is hit it does not play after that. Freezes up then hard to shutoff. This doesn't happen everyday but i hate it when it does.
- Other Thoughts: if you don't care about pic quality go for inoi models. also if you are new to multimedia inoi is better choice because it is very simple unit to control. Other than that if you are in High Def guy like myself and like to do home networking and all that crazy stuff then Mvix is for you.
OK for the price - great with the HD
- Pros: Smaller than a full blown computer. Video quality is good.
- Cons: Slow menus. Browsing the network is a joke... very slow. The NAS capability (connect to the Mvix from a Windows box over the network with software) is a joke. The hardware is just not sufficient to serve up files over the network. Much better to connect via USB.
Fan started being noisy after a week. Had to unplug the fan and leave the cover off. Waiting for NewEgg to carry a super small fan I can replace it with.
Occasionally hangs on AVI. Doesn't like 1080p Divx files. All other Divx files work like a champ though... no hangs.
- Other Thoughts: Using with a 720p 52" Mitsubishi DLP wide screen TV. (a little old) Connecting DVI to HDMI. Video output is good. Audio is good. NewEgg is great for including a hard drive (make sure you choose the combo!)
I have decided to use this strictly for the kids' TV because the menus are not responsive enough.
Lastly, why did I give it a rating of Good with all the cons listed? Well... if you don't mind the slow menus and living with new technology then it is pretty good. Overall I am satisfied.
Mvix MX-760HD Died
- Pros: Plays most everything i have put into. Everything from divx, mpg, xvid, to mp4 and DVD ISO containers all played well without any problems.
- Cons: Does not have good support for NDAS and network instructions could be better
- Other Thoughts: The player died on my today. I have only bought this product less than a month ago and barely watched 20 videos with it.
The thing just froze up after having it on pause for 10-15 minutes; came back to play it and it played for 1 minute then froze; the Mvix OS died while the system hardware was still running after waiting to see if something will happen during freeze time. Was forced to power down after 5 minutes of wait time and no response of any sort. When tried to power back on, the system just did not respond at all. The mvix seems to have completely died on its own accord.
