5 out of 5 eggsAny Help?

Pros: Don't own it yet

Cons: Don't own it yet

Other Thoughts: I was wondering if anyone has heard if the device would work with the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive? If anyone can help leave a review on here and let me know. Thanks.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Great product which can play all your DIVX or XVID AVI movies on your HDTV, supporting 480p, 720p, or 1080i if using component cables. The quality difference between 1080i and 480p is noticeable, even though the source AVI data is not High Definition (the AVI decoder must use intelligent line doubling technology). Easy setup. Device works as an external USB hard drive when copying files from PC to device. No overheating issues - I played movies for 8 hours straight with no hiccups. High quality product. Intuitive remote control.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to read the manufacturer web site for instructions. For example, Western Digital brand hard drives are not recommended by Mvix for this device.

2 out of 5 eggsMivx 5000r doesn't play DVD ISOs

Pros: Of the few DVD ISO images it did play the picture was excellent. As usual NewEgg servcie was great.

Cons: In early Dec 2007 I bought the more expensive Mivx 760HD. I installed a 500GB Seagate HD and copied to it numerous DVD ISO images from US / Euro commerical DVDs, and DVDs created from TV with my Pioneer DVR HD.
All played in every DVD player I have and ALL played from the Mivx 760HD. I thought the 5000r would provide the same experience. Boy was I wrong. Using an identical model Seagate with DVD ISOs and eventually the hard drive from the 760HD, I am unable to play more than 5% of the DVD ISOs. The 5000r sees the files but either (1) starts some 20 -30 min into the film with no ability to return to the beginning - it locks up, or (2) it returns immediately to the menu
or (3) it seems to go into a endless search or loop trying to load the image - have to press Stop to end. 2 & 3 are what usually happens.
The firmware was updated with 1.68 (from Mivx file upload 08-Jan-08 which incidentally has the same July 2007 build no. with a 1 sec different time stamp)

Other Thoughts: This is a great product in concept, beats building a media center pc and is cheaper. But obviously the code on the 5000r is inferior to the higher-priced 760HD. I hope that wasn't intentional, because if you just need composite or component video and no DVI connections or wireless streaming this might otherwise fit your needs. As it is now it's lame.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: It played just about everything I put onto it and the free 80gb hard drive was a huge plus, although I'll more then likely upgrade later down the road. I strongly recommend this to anyone who has a lot of video content they'd like to play on their TV rather then using the Clone feature on any up to date video card.

Cons: Some AVIs don't play, but I believe it had something do with the audio codec used to make the video, but that's not too much of a con, that's really the maker of the videos fault.

Other Thoughts: Buy one

2 out of 5 eggsDid i get a bad one?

Pros: It Displays Pictures fine and it also plays AVIs well but thats about it

Cons: I dont know if i got a half built one or what the deal is here. When i first got the harddrive instaled and formated i draged over some avi, mkv, Divx, and mp4 files. The Mkvs dont show up, it locks up when i try to play mp4s, the avis and divx worked great at the start NOW (5 hours later) if i cant skip into the movies it just starts them over, if i fast forword and try to go that way i when i hit play it starts the movie over. cant figer out how to update the firmwere even though what is on here is newer then the website but yet all the picture in the manual say 3.4 and im on 1.68. I have tryed to contact mvix but have gotten no responce at all. in some of the opptions the directions on the tv tell you to press buttons on the remote that dont exist. the manual is a joke.

Other Thoughts: Over all if this worked like it sould have for me it would be a great investement but seeing how it is what it is i do not recomend

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Very straight forward operation.
Easy firmware updating.
Good compatibility with many formats.
Compact size.
Carrying case and 110v/220v - NTSC/PAL operation is also great for the traveler.
Great customer support!

Cons: The remote is a somewhat non-intuitive but I do not consider that a significant negative.

Other Thoughts: Too bad the version with the FM transmitter is no longer availible (5000U). However you do get the 5.1 audio on this model that the 5000U did not have.
Files compressed with the Divx 6 codec work great with this unit. Many other file types have worked for me but the Divx format seems to give the best blend of quality & compression.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for what it was meant to do.

Pros: Easy to use and setup. No problems with it so far. Excellent movie quality. Quiet operation. So far I have used VOB, Divx and Xvid with it. No problems. Firmware updated without a hitch.

Cons: No wireless capabilities but I knew that before buying it. The remote buttons are little small but I can live with it.

Other Thoughts: Some people mention that the stand falls off easily. Make sure you are installing it properly. It slides in and then locks in place but requires a little force to make it lock. You can actually here it snap in place. Have not had any problems with it sliding off.

5 out of 5 eggsfinally got a working one

Pros: I finally got the new one from New Egg 1st was DOA. This worked out of the box and does what it said it would.
Thanks for the new unit New Egg The rating below is because of the time you took to get it back to me.

Cons: will not record directly

Other Thoughts: If this unit had a tuner and could record MPEG files it would be perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsMvix MV-5000R Great product

Pros: Small size, plenty of options for video out, can navigate from LCD or TV display. ISO's (of course) played fine but took up a tremendous amount of room. Conversion to MPEG4 caused consistent "stepping/slow frame rate on play back". Conversion to DivX6 using a higher rate than "Home Theater", (i.e. 1600 bitrate, 24bps, single pass) reduced the dvd ISO size to approx 1/3 and provided a GREAT play back. "Home Theater" defaults caused some color saturation that was not visible when playing back on computer or other devices. Easy Firmware download/upgrade from their website. If you just want to carry 80+ (240+Gb Hd installed)movies, then keep them in ISO format and the unit will give you DVD quality output. If you are trying to get as many movies on it at as possible, use DivX vs.xx and select a slightly higher bit rate for better quality. Great price even without the bundled Hd

Cons: Have to disconnect USB from computer to use unit as a player. As soon as USB connection is made, unit drops in to hard drive mode and stays there until disconnected.

Other Thoughts: Installation of HD was a breeze, so swapping out in order to maintain full ISO files would not be too much of an issue.
