Nice machine and graphics at great price
- Pros: Video card, gigabit nic, small size and power consumption. Purchased this two days ago, booted up, attached an external CD drive, attached network cable and installed windows 7 home premium without issue. The machine runs great, monitoring security cameras, email, office, web. I haven't had a reason to upgrade to 2G of RAM yet.
- Cons: Installed OS, Drive comes partitioned, you will need an external USB CD drive.
- Other Thoughts: Others commented about trouble with sound on HDMI, just change the default audio output to HDMI.
Comes with XP but I wouldn't run anything other than windows 7 ($150/3 licenses).
Outstanding!!!
- Pros: Despite what others may say about this little box, it performs well for what it is. Lack of flash support is not Acer's fault. It play all video content both SD/HD with out a hitch. I'm using windows media center with the ffdshow x64 codec pack. Haven't found a video file yet that cannot be played using this setup. Plays Netflix via media center plugin using silver light excellent. Nvidea desktop manager for ION can be tweaked to give you the clearest image possible. Currently running 1920x1080 on my 46" HDTV; clear and crisp for all video.
- Cons: Not really a con, but I didn't even power on with 1GB RAM and XP image from Acer. Popped off cover and removed 1GB stick RAM and replaced with two gig kit corsair DDR2 667 RAM and installed Windows 7 x64.
No optical toslink output. Using the 3.5mm headphone jack to get sound to my receiver.
Due to lack of flash support with ion chipset, hulu/boxee are barely watchable at high res.
- Other Thoughts: Download drivers from nvidea and not acer. Acer's drivers are outdated. For 200 bucks, you cannot beat it....plus when flash 10.1 is released, boxee/hulu will work as expected.
Great little caboose
- Pros: Small Footprint, HDMI, XP
- Cons: Little bit of crapware installed ~ but that equals lower price, so I don't mind a few minutes of uninstalling
- Other Thoughts: Have purchased 2 from Newegg thus far; using these to play digital advertising on 42in HD screens; phenomenal picture perfect performance in clarity and in operation. Didn't need to upgrade RAM, holding it's own with the 1GB. Playing flash animation commercials with no issues. Highly recommend this product for this use.
