3 out of 5 eggs2 of 6 hard drive failures

Pros: Good price, capable system as a simple desktop.

Cons: 2 of 6 computers had hard drive failures (Western Digital) shortly after warranty ran out, with minimal time powered up. Hopefully I can use backup to restore with a new hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I should have installed these sooner.

2 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected, or needed.

Pros: It has a smaller form factor than some other desktops. It has a dual-core 3.2 GHz processors, PS/2 ports, 8 USB ports, both VGA and DVI ports, and gigabit lan. Also, a DVD burner. I knew I would need to plug it into KVM switch, so having DVI and PS/2 was a must. Also, it had Win 7 Pro 64-bit installed on it.

Cons: I knew it when I bought it, but couldn't find another PC with proper specs that was affordable enough... But, the 2 GB RAM gave me problems. Even though it was advertised as Win 7 Pro 32/64, you can't run it in 32-bit mode without the OS disk, which did not come with the computer. 2 GB is the minimum req. for 64-bit Win 7. I had a 2 - 3 blue crash screens after I first got it. Then, I ran into problems with available memory when trying to multi-task on the computer. Then, to top it all off, I had a difficult time upgrading the RAM. I match specs, and the RAM wouldn't work. I bring RAM chip into store with me and ask for same exact specs, and it STILL does not work. I had to use "memory finder tool" online, where I put in PC model, in order to get correct RAM. Also, going to ACER support site didn't help. Why can't ACER tell you what type of RAM to get, and be correct about it? Dual-core 3.2 GHz CPU, 64-bit OS, and only 2 GB RAM is UNBALANCED specs. 2 GB RAM would be balanced with 32-bit Win OS and slower CPU. I mean, at least have all specs match up! Also, why would you have a computer with 4 GB RAM max capacity with WIN 7 64-bit? It doesn't make any sense. 32-bit Windows will only recognize 3 GB RAM. So, the RAM and RAM capacity matches with 32-bit OS. With 64-bit OS, you need the RAM pre-installed at 4 GB, and at least 8 GB capacity. If specs are not matched, you will always run into issues. Because of the blue crash screens, unbalanced specs, and difficulty in upgrading, I do not want to purchase from ACER again. At least, not for computers. I checked on their website, and they are still doing this kind of nonsense.

Other Thoughts: Rules of thumb: (probably the same for Win 8)
1. RAM for 32-bit OS = At least double "system requirements". For Win 7, this means 2 GB RAM.

2. RAM for 64-bit OS = Double Sys Req. So, 4 GB for Win 7, with at least 8 GB capacity. (For laptops, if you want 64-bit OS, you need it to have 6 GB RAM, since laptops are harder to upgrade).

3. CPU for 32 bit OS = 1.5 GHz dual-core. 1.5 times system requirement, and 2x the core. This is needed, even for basic computing.

4. CPU for 64 bit OS = 3 GHz dual-core, or ANY GHz quad-core.

5. Unless planning on upgrading to 64-bit OS in the future, do NOT purchase a computer with more than 4 GB RAM or more than a 2.0 GHz dual-core CPU! The OS will not recognize more than 3 or 3.5 GB RAM, and therefore not utilize a faster CPU's capabilities, either.

6. 64-bit OS does not have much limitations. You can get whatever specs you want, but do NOT go below a 2.0 GHz dual-core CPU, or below 4 GB RAM.

7. Shop wisely, and pay attention to SPECS that you need. Do NOT get a 6-core processor machine with 12 GB RAM for basic computing! It's a waste of your money.

8. Pay attention to brands. Do proper research if you do not know the good manufacturers. I know I shouldn't say which manufacturers to stay away from, so I will just leave you with that suggestion.

Trust what I am saying. I know quite a bit. 3.5 years tech support and lots of research and trial-and-error. I just don't claim to have SUPER high knowledge just because I do not have a degree.

Also, if you are smart enough, you can BUILD a better computer, with FORWARDS compatibility. Just something to think about...

I gave this item a 2-egg rating just because of the PROS it had.

1 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

Pros: Nice desktop machine for basic tasks. Purchased as a kiosk machine in front room to browse, check email and pay bills. Easy re-install of OS with supplied software. It's size is very convenient and able to place it out of the way or on desktop on it's side with little space used. Other than the video discussed below, the performance is ok. But thats about where the pros end.

Cons: The video card or the power supply seemed to be faulty as the video out will crash when even screen saver graphics is activated or viewing a youtube video. I tested against 2 different monitors. Very disappointing since you can't "Stay productive and get creative" when your video chip fails. Finding drivers for this PC is very difficult.

Other Thoughts: I was reluctant to go with the integrated graphics and 200w power supply. I didn't think that it would be a big performance hit for just basic PC tasks.

I wont ever purchase from Acer again because they seem to be more than willing to piece together something that does not perform as stated

"...great media features that make it easy to power through tasks, explore the Internet and enjoy more of your digital media and entertainment."

5 out of 5 eggsNice PC for price..

Pros: Easy to set up and not to much pre-instaled software to remove.

Cons: Parts of keyboard stopped working after a few months.

Other Thoughts: This is a good desk top for the price. I set my sister up so she can surf and email with no problems.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Excellent value for the price, ample usb ports, room for expansion, slim design, came with windows 7 Pro

Cons: only 2 gig of ram and only upgradeable to 4, could use a better video card

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these and have had them 3 months and am very pleased. I did do the max upgrade to 4 gigs of ram which is a must for windows 7. The fact that you could buy this nice of a machine with windows 7 Pro for $300

4 out of 5 eggsNot 32-bit as advertised.

Pros: This little computer is great- it's quiet and fast. It worked happily right out of the box and booted with no troubles. Definitely a slick start. I'd buy another in a heartbeat for almost any application.

Cons: Unlike the heading, this product came with Windows 7 64-bit installed. Normally this would be fine (and even preferable), except that this machine was purchased specifically to run a program in 32-bit (which will not run in 64-bit). The poor labeling is almost as problematic as the inability to change it from 64-bit to 32-bit. Not sure if this is Newegg's problem or Acer's, but I feel rather cheated.

5 out of 5 eggsBest price on a new computer!

Pros: It's cheap (when I purchased it)! It does only have a Pentium, but it's not super slow.

Cons: It's deactivated now so I can't buy any more.

Other Thoughts: I sell Point of Sales computers to restaurants and was planning on buying hundreads of these eventually but I only got one before they are deactivated.

Newegg, if you see this then I highly suggest you get more.

5 out of 5 eggsVX275-UD5800W

Pros: Capable, quiet, easy to set-up. Easy to up the RAM to 4G, appears well designed and assembled. 8 USB ports. Small footprint and can be place vertically or horizontally. Low power consumption. Windows 7 Pro.

Cons: Not a gaming or 3D machine with MB video, a half height video card can be installed, but the power supply is <300 watts. Probably not easy to install a larger power supply.

Other Thoughts: Well package for shipping. I believe it is an excellent value, time will tell. Another excellent Newegg experience.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Business

Pros: Small foot print. More than enough for everyday business work. Great for working in a network connected to a server.

Cons: Only one video output. So not able to do dual monitors without adding a video card. Keyboard and mouse are not USB. Pretty old school actually.

Other Thoughts: Need to add a part time use computer to our network. For the price you can't go wrong. There are computers that have a few more bells and whistles for a few dollars more. Not the computer I would get for my boss but ok for the empolyees.
