4 out of 5 eggsReasonable nettop

Pros: Small size, low power, many USB ports, external power brick

Cons: Slow hard drive, useless O/S, thinks has laptop display

Other Thoughts: The unit comes configured with Linpus Linux which I replaced with Ubuntu 12.04 installed by booting from a USB CD drive. The Linpus installation had the hard drive configured with a 30GB user partition, leaving about 300GB disk space ususable. When configuring Ubuntu I found the display resolution had limited choices as the video hardware thought it was mirroring a laptop display -- one that does not exist. Ubuntu let me split the displays and turn off the non-existent laptop display. The manufacturer website says the unit also has 802.11b/g/n, not mentioned in the Newegg write-up, but I have been unable to get it to connect.

2 out of 5 eggsOuch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Small Size, Great Look, Super Quiet!

Cons: 1st Problem: Machine would boot up and start loading the Linpus OS, then it would restart in the middle of boot up this continued for about 15 mins in an endless loop of failed OS loading.
2nd Problem: Since in never loaded OS, I had to run the System recovery built in (alt+f10) and even the recovery had errors through out the whole process with leads into Problem 3.
Problem 3: The recovery finally finished with a message saying "recovery had errors please use recovery disc" which of course it didnt come with.
Problem 4: After the failed recovery, it restarted and finally let me in the OS. As soon as it loaded I checked if it needed any updates and it said it was fully updated. So I proceded to use it and many many many errors came up in everything I do.
SO! Now what do I do? I have an OS that is junk that I cant use. I will need to buy Windows 7 that will cost me another $200. So now Im into this mini computer way more than I wanted to be.

Other Thoughts: I really like Newegg, but OUCH!

2 out of 5 eggsHmmmmmm.......

Pros: Super Small, Super Quiet, Super Stylish, low cost.

Cons: Horrible OS!!!! I thought I would give this Linux OS a try. It had so many problems the moment I turned it on. 1st it was in an endless loop from bootup to Linux loading screen, then it would reboot and start all over. After 20 restarts I had to run system recovery which had errors then finally restored computer. After all that I finally got to the desktop, tried to punch in a website and more errors. So i went to system updates thinking it just needed to be updated and it says already up to date. never got anything to work. Now im in a huge predicament. I want to load Windows 7 but I neef to spend the money for it. Instead i could have bought the upgraded acer with window's 7 and i would have had better hardware specs.

Other Thoughts: I like Newegg alot, but this purchase hurts a little.

5 out of 5 eggsWipe it out, load what you want - works great.

Pros: Good as expected. The unit is very small, I like the size and the shape. It's very quiet. I installed Ubuntu Precise on it and with playing around with the display settings all is well. Looking good.

Cons: Upon booting it came up with it's Linpus which was configured for only a 32gb drive as opposed to the 320gb drive that is really has. The system was configured as another users laptop? No initial set-up at all. Its' here and this is what you got? Very Poor Linpus configuration right off the bat, wiped it out right away.

Under display settings it showed laptop and vga, of course there isn't a real laptop screen, so moving the vga to the left, turning off the laptop screen (in gui), setting proper screen resolution to 1280x1024 and unchecking "mirror displays" all looks good. Ubuntu is using the i915 video driver

Other Thoughts: Perhaps if the Linpus was configured correctly I might of played with it a while but since it wasn't it did not stand a chance. For all practical purposes it configures as a netbook with only a vga. In the bios there wasn't any way to disable the laptop screen even thought its not really there. I looked.

5 out of 5 eggsnice LAMP server

Pros: Compact, low-power, quiet, good BIOS, light-weight, acceptable CPU (speed), fast RAM, good assortment of connections/ports. RAM amount is fine for Linux.

Cons: Not designed for user to open. But, it can be done with a credit card. Only needed for adding RAM. HINT: Remove the one screw at the base and then use a credit card to pop the cover latches (side opposide the power button. )

Other Thoughts: Wanted a MySQL database to test against at home. Installed Ubuntu 11.10 server with options LAMP, SSH Server. Then added phpmyadmin and webmin. Now, just leave it running due to the low-power and no-noise. It's great. Did not upgrade the RAM, just checked it out.

5 out of 5 eggsBest MiniServer EVER! =)

Pros: VERY small{you can mount this just about anywhere!}
Low heat, and pretty powerful too {decent specs}
i run a custom flavor of windows xp on these with a copy of Blue Iris I.P. CAMERA monitoring software.{it comes with a disk with all the windows drivers on it too}
ive been using these ever since they came out as a recorder and monitor station for I.P. cameras. {there easy to hide anywhere and they hold up really well} works great with Rosewill and Foscam I.P. Cameras.

Cons: none really {well,the version of linux that comes on it is absolute garbage=),but i dont think anybody actually uses it anyway-they usually put ubuntu or pclos on it}

Other Thoughts: great for hooking up to your big flatscreen tv for netflix too.
i use these for ip camera setups all the time, once i even mounted one in a car for a customer with a usb GPS antena and a 8" touch screen in his dash, and even build a standup "M.A.M.E. arcade machine" with this as its core cpu.
the posibilities for one of these little pc's is endless! great for "trick" setups.
ps. i didnt have any videos to upload of instals ive done,but i have lost of piks {but i couldnt figure out how to upload those=( maybe next time=)
