2 out of 5 eggsDead after 4 days

Pros: Great specs for the money, paid $689. 4th gen i7, 12G RAM, wifi and Bluetooth.

Cons: Small proprietary PSU that I'm pretty sure failed on me. System won't POST and only lets out one long beep. Debating if I should let Acer fix or RMA to Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap for an i7.
Nice looking case
Recovery system made it easy to restore original OS to SSD.
Wacky lights.
Probably fast, haven't gotten there yet
Not that much bloatware.

Cons: Only takes laptop optical drives. No room for desktop optical drives.
A pain to open and add hardware. Recovery system requires USB drive, no way to make recovery DVDs, but that might be the fault of windows 8.
Only 4 sata ports, but no real space to add more drives anyway. Wacky lights.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed that this uses laptop optical drives, I should have done more research. I'm unable to add my bluray drive to this machine. Maybe with more disassembly I can make it fit.

It was a pain to open this up to add my SSD, and mess with the hard drives compared to my 5 year old Dell computer, which required no tools and had spring loaded caddies for everything.

I haven't really tried to use it yet, still getting set up after moving the main OS to SSD. No plans for gaming, so it should be fast enough for what I need.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: Gamers BEWARE, i7 Cheap

PSU 300W - Unable to find an upgradable part
LOOK to dual psu if you want to make this worth it.

Other Thoughts: Do not purchase with intention to upgrade, the mobo requires a 12 pin main connector which is impossible to find a > 300W psu. Acer doesnt seem to care to help.

5 out of 5 eggsbest bang for the buck

Pros: Bought this in late October 2013 from newegg for $699, which was an almost absurdly good deal. I haven't seen anything comparable price-wise for what you get under the hood. Even tiger direct sells the same model for $100 more.

Cons: To get the most out of the machine you'll probably want to do a couple of upgrades. I also bought a Toshiba 128gb SSD for $80 (installing it was easy because the Acer has an easy-access swappable drive bay). If you're using this for gaming or rendering you'll want to pick up a graphics card. The onboard graphics are fine for home use but this powerful rig will be bottlenecked by graphics performance if you try to do anything much more intensive. A decent card will make this thing a beast.

Other Thoughts: Overall, well worth it for an amazing price that saves you enough cash to pick up a couple of extra performance enhancing components. Lastly, it doesn't come with a monitor (not really a con), so I picked up an ASUS LED 23.8" 5MS VN248H-P. Beautiful monitor combined with blazing hardware - a real pleasure.
