1 out of 5 eggsRefurbished at a cost

Pros: Quiet and did the job and small

Cons: Unable to install additional boards like sound or better graphics card, USB ports for some reason would recognize hardware, then other times it would not. The card reader dropped some files, when I put the MicroSDCard into a USB adapter reader, it worked fine. Audio jacks worked for 8 months then gave out completely. After the sound gave out completely, called Acer for assistance. They walked me through a refresh. Means reinstalling to original but keeping files and data safe...But wiped out ALL INSTALLED APPS. That was a big mistake!!!! Still no Sound. Since it's a refurbished unit...basically I'm out of luck. The system still functions, but it is completely "MUTE"!!!! I was hoping to get at least a couple of years out of it before it failed on me.

Other Thoughts: I got what I paid for it. I wouldn't use it for gaming though. Even though the HDMI worked when I hooked it up to the TV... I had to deal with the sound through my portable speakers and not coming from the TV.

If you are prepared to take the chance that any refurbished computer, may and will give out within a year, then this is the system for you. But don't expect any support when hardware or issues arise after the standard 90 day warranty period. I've bought some refurbished before and had no problems, but like everything else, bound to get one now and then. So for the money, it's not bad in the general use.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough for the price

Pros: Great value, fast enough processor for all basic uses, very energy efficient.

Cons: Screwy USB drivers, not upgradable, machine comes pre-loaded with lots of Acer bloatware.

Other Thoughts: Hard to beat this setup for the price. My machine came with the UPC code so no problem getting my rebate. Works well for internet, music, and HD movies. Only problems are:
1) The USB3.0 port is screwy and often doesn't recognize attached drives at computer startup.
2) This machine offers very little room for upgrading or expanding, so the hardware it comes with is more or less what you're stuck with.
3) DVD-R burning has been somewhat problematic, which has never been an issue on my previous machine.

2 out of 5 eggsLaptop in a case.

Pros: Inexpensive.

Cons: No expansion slots
No wifi

Other Thoughts: They have basically slapped a laptop motherboard into a tower case. If you just need something basic and have a wired LAN connection it should be alright.

1 out of 5 eggsWish I never bought this....

Pros: Inexpensive, Decent Specs for Price.

Cons: Worked only for afew weeks and then had issues, could not rebuild OS so wiped drive to re-install windows 8.1, keep getting errors around 13% of install, everytime, with different HDDs and install dvds and USB media, just a all around bad purchase...

Other Thoughts: wish acer would ship me a new one, i bought this for my parents, the now do not have a PC because of this...

3 out of 5 eggsNice machine, don't expect rebate

Pros: Nice and compact.
Windows 8.1
Excellent price if you get the rebate.
Low Power consumption

Cons: No expansion slots,
Only two SATA ports
A little noisy

Will not get the rebate

Other Thoughts: BEWARE THERE IS NO UPC ON THE BOX. Forget about getting the rebate.

I cannot believe I'm being treated this way from NewEgg. The rebate wants a UPC off the box and because this is a refurb there is NO UPC on the box. I have sent the "upc" to the rebate clearing house and then they replied it was invalid. I then cut out another one and mailed it in. Still not the right one. There is NO OTHER UPC on the box. Contacted NewEgg and they want all the supporting documentation, that I cannot locate at the moment. I have to take pictures of the box and mail it to them and they going to "investigate" it with the manufacture.

The thing that really hurts is that they are AWARE of the problem. I see lots of reports off the deal sites that lots of people have this problem with this purchase.

So to newegg: If you know there is no upc on the box, why are you making me go through all these hoops and just make it right!!!

1 out of 5 eggsWorked Great, for about a week

Pros: Good price point, compact, smaller than a standard cable box, low power consumption. Great idea for a HTPC... but...

Cons: Everything was going great with this thing until about a week in when the hard drive crashed and now it won't reboot. Will attempt to replace it with either Newegg or Acer customer service. I will update this review if my mostly negative experience happens to improve; ie. miraculously starts working again.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: Perfect for my use as an HTPC.
Consumes very little power
Has HDMI output perfect for connecting to TV
Uses standard 5.25 DVD drive and 3.5" hard drive that is relatively easy to replace

Overall, great value for the features you are getting!

Cons: I wish that finding an mini-pci wireless card would be easier. Instead, I just used a wireless adapter to provide the machine with internet

Other Thoughts: My refurbished machine came in good condition. I am very satisfied!

3 out of 5 eggsSo so

Pros: Good price after rebate, basically for the price of a new Windows 8 software. Compact size. Quiet fan. Decent basic processing.

Cons: Defective keyboard, the "W' key wasn't working and the card reader doesn't seem to be working, may have to open it up to check or get drivers? But the Acer website isn't up to snuff to get what you need.

Other Thoughts: Mine actually had the UPC for me to submit for the rebate so no problems there. After the SD card issue, now I should check the HDMI and other slots/connections.

3 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Small quiet that is surprisingly fast. Good for most tasks except gaming and multimedia production.

Cons: Limited expansion with 1 free SO-DIMM slot and 1 mini-pci-e slot.

Other Thoughts: My works fine unless you push the CPU to 100% load. It has crashed (frozen) on me 5 times now. Sending it back. Another note: seems the refurbish quality control is lacking (this one crashing) as I also bought the other model with only 512GB hard disk - that one works fine except it came with a defective keyboard and mouse with chipped plastic housing.

4 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck

Pros: Very quiet and speedy. Enough storage for the average user (1TB). Will make a good HTPC with the HDMI connection using XMBC or use as a basic Internet box. Definitely worth the $190 in got it for ;)

Cons: Numerous others (including myself) received a unit with the UPC missing, making the rebate impossible to submit.

Came with too much trial software of no value, and fist boot had way too much clutter.

Only one USB 3.0 port and it's located in the rear making use of 3.0 flash drives difficult to use without a hub or extension cable.

Other Thoughts: Working with NE now to resolve the missing UPC. Time will tell if and how this gets resolved.

I wiped and clean installed Win8.1.u1 to fully rid the bloat that came pre-installed. Others have used pcdecrapifier to get (near) similar results. DO NOT update to the later BIOS if you want a clean legacy (non-UEFI) install as you will lose that (CSM) option.
