Where's the rest of the computer, you ask? It may look like just a monitor, but the iMac is a powerful computer, likely to leave your old system in the dust! Its 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor allows the iMac to run both Mac OS and Windows natively. A 320 GB hard drive has plenty of room for both work and play. An ATI Radeon HD 2600 graphics processor gives superior performance for video and gaming. The slot-loading 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) is built right into the side of the monitor.

It's easy to connect to almost any peripheral. It features 802.11n WiFi technology, and can work with 802.11a/b or /g wireless routers. Built-in Bluetooth lets you sync wirelessly with your enabled cell phone or PDA, so everything stays up to date, with no messy wires! iMac also features 3 USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 400 and 800 ports right on the monitor, and 2 additional USB 2.0 ports on the included keyboard.

You'll be amazed at the simple elegance of the Mac utilities, like Mac Mail (which has such handy features as email “Bounce", which, at your instruction, notifies the senders of unwanted email that your email address is unavailable, and an email search engine); iCal, which gives you clean, easy-to-use calendar management; and iPhoto, which is truly the easiest photo management utility ever! It comes with a built-in iSight camera, which takes still photos, video, and serves as a webcam. The all-in-wonderful iMac takes the aggravation out of multimedia management, and sets a new benchmark for reliability and performance.

5 out of 5 eggsThe IMac is amazing!

Pros: It's the coolest computer I've ever owned, and I've always been a PC user. I switched because of work (motion graphics designer) and have been completely satisfied with my purchase.

Jubliant is another word I would use. There are so many cool features available that I'm still learning new things everyday.

Easiest setup ever - you take it out of the box, plug everything in, turn it on, and it finishes the Leopard install by asking you questions. About ten minutes later you are up and running. No additional drivers to install, no constant internet updates.

It's like buying a Ferrari that's as smart as a Prius and as cheap as a Honda.

Cons: The recent price drop means I could have purchased two for the price of my Imac plus all the upgrades!

Other Thoughts: -I'm probably going to buy another one, for my wife.
-I wish they would come out with a 30" or bigger screen, so I could replace my TV.
-If you absolutely need to have Windows, you can install windows on the Imac as well as OSX, which has proven to be extremely handy in that I can watch Netflix movies online, and still use some old software I can't part with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price and computer

Pros: The middle ground "sweet spot" for iMac pricing. I've had this computer since it came out in August and it's been a great solid machine. I upgraded it to Leopard and 2 GB of RAM with third party RAM. Do yourself a favor and buy the RAM from Newegg. If you need it, upgrade to 4 GB and sell the 1 GB chip or use it in another computer. (Nice if you have multiple macs)

Cons: If you are a freak about cracking open computers and upgrading your own components (Like a larger HDD) you might have some issues. (Not to mention voiding the warranty).

Other Thoughts: Newegg can't be beat. I bought direct from apple so I could get the wireless mighty mouse with it, but Newegg has great customer service. Buy applecare sometime within the first year and shop around for a good price.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent machine

Pros: -With 3 gigs of ram in my setup running Leopard, the iMac is extremely fast for whatever you want to do. With bootcamp running Windows XP, I play Team Fortress 2 full-screen on medium-high settings with an average of 40-50ish fps (frames per second).
-Extremely easy to set up and get going.
-Mighty mouse is a great multibutton mouse.
-Excellent customer support. Apple is renowned for their superb customer support.
-If set up in the right environment, the monitor looks beautiful.
-Doesn't come installed with a ton of third party applications. The applications that do come installed work well and are very useful.

Cons: -Ram is expensive if you buy it directly from apple (alot cheaper if you buy it from newegg instead).
-The monitor is glossy and looks beautiful in certain environments. However due to it being glossy, it gives off a bad glare when hit with direct sunlight. Also some monitors are notorious for not having equal brightness on every part of the screen. My iMac was affected, but is only noticeable with a lot of icons on the desktop. Otherwise I would have never known (I didn't even find this out for 2 weeks after I bought it!)
-This screen is not ideal for serious photographers. The screen doesn't show as many colors as a matte screen does so the color is not always 100% accurate. However please note that the average user, programmer, gamer, etc will be hardpressed to ever notice this.

Other Thoughts: -Buy the ram from newegg. You will save a lot of money.
-Also, it's probably a good idea to put your iMac in a place or room where it won't be hit by direct sunlight to get the best picture possible.
-Keyboard is give or take. The buttons are fairly big but it does take time to get used to.
-If you want to game on your iMac, and believe me you can, bootcamp is your absolute best shot. At the time of this review, no other windows emulation program has 3D graphics acceleration support. Note: You need a legitimate Windows XP or Vista disc for this to work.
-Overall I'm very happy with it. You're going to pay a little bit more compared to a regular PC, but that comes with buying anything Apple. It's a quality machine and I'm very satisfied with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT!

Pros: First and foremost: Mac OS. I've built dozens of custom windows machines and owned a few Macs in the past and this is the best computer I've ever used. Rendering a sample image took 45 min on my old 1.25GHz G4 tower... it takes 3 minutes on my new iMac!!!
It's silent, gorgeous, small footprint, built-in practically everything... Apple thought of everything with this model.

I upgraded the RAM to 4GB using two of Corsair's 2GB sticks, purchased on newegg. I also added an external 750GB FW800 for Time Machine backup and video scratch. The end result is the best computing setup I've ever used.

Cons: PC games on Parallels don't work that great.

Other Thoughts: If you're already a Mac user, you'll love this baby. If you're not yet a Mac user, open your mind and you'll never go back.

3 out of 5 eggsbuild your own

Pros: Mac osx... plug and play.

Cons: for $1500.39 (after $130 worth or mail in rebates) you could get an antec case w/500w PSU, Q6600 (quad core), abit ix38 quadgt, 4GB ddr2 800 ram, sceptre 24" widescreen, 8800 gts (g92), 500GB HDD, and vista x64.

Other Thoughts: sure the custom built system will cost a little more... but it is far superior to this one in EVERY way. Or you could build a machine with the same specs as this for about $770 after $30 MIR. same processor, same graphics, memory, HDD, and monitor but with vista x64. but then you have to know how to build a computer (ie. connect a bunch of wires and know how to use screw driver).

5 out of 5 eggsVery Cool Computer

Pros: Looks great, small and compact.
plug and play. Don't need anything else. Just turn on and hold on.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I don't get the reviews when people say this computer is bad. Before you buy , I'm sure there are Apple stores at a mall near you to test out. What do you expect, a computer that give you a massage as you sit and use. I've had this computer for 2 months and is perfect. I will never go back to windows, and as for upgrades and games on this computer, buy a wii or ps3. This is a computer not a video game system.

1 out of 5 eggsBad...

Pros: Pretty fast, Big screen.

Cons: Are you kidding me... I got my 50 year old mother her first computer. I thought I would get her a apple because they seem simpler if you have never used a PC, the day she got it it had a dead pixel on the screen and it locks up all the time.. Dont be as foolish as me i wouldnt recomend getting this computer.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's a Mac! Not a lot to say here, it looks and feels great.

Cons: When bought from Newegg, you can't customize, major con. There have also been reported problems with the video card, locking up and etc. It's regarded as 'fixed' for OS X, but it's really a hardware error that can hurt you in Windows. Buyer beware; your best option would be a MacBook of some sort or a Mac Pro.

Other Thoughts: The best solution for buying an iMac is to get one custom made for your specifications through the Apple store. If you like the specs for this system, go for it on Newegg and RAM is easily upgradeable, so don't let that hold you back. This is the ONLY case I recommend buying from anywhere but Newegg. It's nice they carry these, though.

1 out of 5 eggsexpensive paperweight

Pros: by far one of the best looking looking computers err paperweights ive seen
10.4 works nicely
9.95 upgrade to 10.5 (but read below)

Cons: screen is washed out
limited upgrade ability (no room in case)
PSU seems weak for system (cant confirm this as i want to return this after reading apples forums and the numerous complaints about the screen blurs and fading)
wasted even more money upgrading to 10.5

Other Thoughts: I ll admit im a long time MS user, and my wife wanted the new iMac as they use some Macs at her work, but this "thing" is a pile of rotten apple. not only did i lose out on getting leopard for 9.95 leopard cost me 129 and is more flawed than Vista and feels slower than my AMD X2 running Vista, Vista hasnt crashed once on me that wasnt an Overclock / Game issue but Leopard has numerous times and i duplicated the unacknowledged problem of data loss moving files from the HD to an external HD
the display is garbage and doesnt even compare to a cheap 20" display like an Acer and dont even sit it side by side with an older mac thx to my friend bringing his older white imac over for the side by side
dont believe me look at apples forums and search thread id# 1073705 so if u buy one stick with 10.4 tiger as apple has even stated that theres an issue in 10.5 dont believe me look on the internet as apple deletes forum responses about 10.5 issues
