4 out of 5 eggsDecent computer

Pros: Good entry computer for another family. This will be used for homework and basic internet tasks

Cons: Keyboard was defective and a column of keys didn't work. No 1, Q, A, or Z which makes typing difficult. I don't think it is worth trying to replace the entire unit for the keyboard, but that is very inconvenient.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a decent machine for what is needed.

5 out of 5 eggsAn excellent value

Pros: Quiet, fun layout within case, still relatively capable hardware, decent options for expansion. Works well with my AMD GPU

Cons: Smallish HDD?(Works well enough for Mint, but Win 7 takes a 1/4th of the entire drive...) Only single slot, low profile graphics cards are compatible within this case.

Other Thoughts: For those that don't know, a fair amount of people have had trouble with certain AMD GPU's and Lenovo desktops. I ordered a 5450 along with this desktop and read about this issue afterwards. Turns out the problem was fixed in a BIOS update. Just google "M57P BIOS" and just follow the directions with flashing it. This PC runs perfectly fine with a 5450.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal

Pros: Cheap
Core 2 Duo with decent clock
Worked! No problems
Comes with Windows 7

Cons: 2GB ram and 80GB HDD can be limiting (if grandma, perfect)

Other Thoughts: Mine came with four RAM slots, so I added 4GB. I also upgraded the hard drive and added a video card. I still saved a lot of money and can play older video games easy. Just make sure to get the low-profile video card.

5 out of 5 eggsnice

Pros: Got this nice little unit on sale for $150. Can't really go wrong with Core 2 Duo 2.3ghz for $150, considering Win7 and the processor alone is twice that. Runs very snappy even on a basic 7200 RPM HDD. Can even run some non high profile games on decent setting with a low profile vid card. I got a GeForce 210 card in it so could hook up via HDMI to a big screen TV and watch movies. I mainly use it to run some decently high demanding flash application pretty much all day and the CPU stays at around 45 deg which is really good for an Intel processor and is VERY quiet. Windows 7 with all the drivers came preinstalled, which is nice and hassle free. All I had to do is input the Win7 cd key.

Cons: With a graphics card installed, can't use on board VGA plug, it simply doesn't show up. Since the case isn't big enough, I had to get a low profile vid card on which I had to take off VGA port so it would fit. My small TV/monitor only has VGA and component plugs so I had to get a HDMI to RCA cable, but that's no biggie.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value for the Price

Pros: - Inexpensive
- Green/low power consumption
- Solid build, typical ThinkCentre
- Surprisingly quick
- Runs Win7 just fine

Cons: - Small drive
- Takes forever to boot

Other Thoughts: I can think of a dozen uses for this, but here are some ideas:
- Lightweight web server
- Workstation for entry level user
- Workstation for a startup, non-for-profit, or other lean organization
- Single purpose workstation for basic office users (email, browsing, documents, etc.)
- Computer for your grandparents

I bought this to donate to our children's preschool. They just needed a computer to use with their educational CD-ROM's. I wanted a computer that could stand the rigors of a bunch of 4-5 year old children. The keyboard and mouse are basic, but functional. The ThinkCentre itself is incredibly solid.

Thankfully, it wasn't loaded up with all the usual Lenovo software/bloatware, so it actually runs fast, for a disk-based system at least (haven't had one of those in years). I disabled automatic updates and did not install a virus scanner, as they are not connected to a network. I loaded TuxPaint, GCompris, and Starfall and they all run fast. They should be good for a few years at least.

At the discounted price that I paid, about $170, this was a no brainer.
