5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the money

Pros: Only $699.99 shipped; good equipment; definitely cheaper than the sum of its parts; 10 USB ports; pretty quiet operation unless it's working hard...

Cons: Cheap keyboard; don't much care for the placement of the front USB ports/media readers

Other Thoughts: Was kinda scared that it wouldn't even start on the first try from the reviews I've read , but has worked beautifully.
Lance: Hopefully you've figured out that the DVD eject button is on the side of the door...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System Head Back by Mediocre Harddrive

Pros: Fast. Windows scores in the 7.3 - 7.4 range for hardware except harddrive (5.9). System is very fluid and only slows down when having to access the harddrive extensively. Windows 7 shines in the six-core environment. Throughput is easily twice the dual-core system this replaced even with the slower harddrive.

Incredible value for the money. I couldn't come close to the cost of this configuration if I tried to build my own PC (which I did last time) and it is backed by a great extended warranty.

System is nice looking and functional. Overall it is very quiet with just a hint of fan noise and when accessing that pesky harddrive again.

Cons: 5400 RPM Hardrive bottlenecks the system. I didn't deduct an egg because I'm going to install a Crucial SSD for regular use. At that time the huge 1.5TB drive becomes an asset.

Other Thoughts: I was a little concerned with the video card's specs as I would have preferred a 5770. After having used the PC for several days as I expect to normally use it (Internet video, presentations, web site construction, a few intense games and office applications), I'm more satisfied than I thought I would be.

These computers appear to have been built around the end of May 2010 and required nearly 100 Windows system updates before I installed any applications. Took 30 minutes to download and install the updates. Probably required only 1/3 of the time my older computer would have needed. Time is money!

5 out of 5 eggsPerformance Packed

Pros: This computer is loaded with a powerful fast processor, decent 1 gig video card, big hard drive, and plenty of ram. I really appreciate all the USB ports (six in back, four in front), and the little tray on the top of the computer is ideal for placing mini hard drives or other devices. Having PS2 connections available for the keyboard and mouse means you save those USB ports on the back for other input devices

Cons: The keyboard and mouse are definitely low rent and don't come with the PS2 connector. The keyboard is as cheap a keyboard as I have ever seen from a major manufacturer. They work, but compared to my last Gateway purchase, they are disappointing. (However, I didn't but this computer for the keyboard, so still five eggs!)

Other Thoughts: I caught this on sale for $700 at New Egg, unbelievable at that price. I must have been a really good guy in a previous life.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: A nice Multitasker

Cons: if your a gamer look for a higher clock speed and a higher rpm on the hard drive but i am happy with this box for multitasking and daily intense computing.

Other Thoughts: my first pre-boxed system. I haven't even had it open yet.

I did order a USB 3 card for my future externals.

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: It works...now.

Cons: Power supply not connected to the hard drive. Gateway customer support is beyond useless. Very frustrating experience.

Other Thoughts: I spoke with customer support when the PC wouldn't boot up the first attempts. Technician wanted me to restore to factory with an option not available for this model. Then tried to 'sell' me the factory recovery disks. I was very close to returning the product but saw a review here about disconnected cables. So, I thought, "Why not?" Opened it up and saw the power supply not connected to the HD. Ironically there is a prominent QC stamp on the inside of the panel. Ridiculous! Don't buy unless you are prepared to do some technical maintenance on your own. Support is not going to be a help when you need it.

4 out of 5 eggsTaking a chance...

Pros: At $700 and free shipping/warranty, this is an incredible deal. As of this date (11/23), the components sold individually cost more than that. It runs Starcraft 2 on high graphic settings like a dream.

Cons: This computer is underpowered and will never be more than it is. There's no room to expand this system-- no real expansion slots, no room for more RAM, and a preposterously low power supply. The reviews about flaky hardware made me nervous, but I decided to roll the dice given the deal offered. Worst case, the system fails beyond Gateway's ability to repair, I rip out the components and I just buy a 500 watt power supply and a case to accommodate it. It would still cost me less than buying all this stuff individually. The bloat was about average, but just use decrapifier. Also, there's apparently no external button to open the DVD tray-- you have to right click it in windows and hit eject. How weird is that?

Other Thoughts: I'll report back in a month and update.

4 out of 5 eggsC'mon guys...

Pros: Value.

Cons: Value.

Other Thoughts: Not much to say but this: For the price you should have a good P supply on hand before you get it. Also a proper cooling system of your choice. Maybe an extra fan. As far as disconnected cables and poor tech support - well, times are bad all over and Chinese labor is cheap. Not that I have anything against Chinese folks, mind you. In 30-40 years they'll be looking for cheap US goods and services. Maybe just a little growing up here is in order?

5 out of 5 eggsok so far

Pros: fired up out of the box, beautiful video compared to my sony. xp to win7, lots of neat stuff, still on the honey moon though. easily done every thing i have loaded so far.

Cons: no blazing speed as i expected

Other Thoughts: i ordered a 550 watt power supply with it, after reading the other reviews. gateway fuzzily says that is ok, unless you break something. apparently, i didn't.

5 out of 5 eggsGood PC

Pros: Cheap computer for what you get - couldn't easily spec a computer with these kind of components at this price. Worked right out of the box. Newegg dropped the price $100.00 right after I bought it, so it's even cheaper. Not too happy about that. Hopefully they will refund me. I've read complaints about the power supply being enough - none of the components require even close to 300W. The graphics card manufacturer recommends like 450W, but it doesn't use anywhere close to that wattage. The processor requires less than 100W.

Cons: None so far - only time will tell. Was worried about buying a Gateway based on what I've read, but I think pc reviews are always biased towards the negative since unhappy customers are more inclined to voice their opinion, and rightfully so. This is more true with fewer reviews and purchases.

1 out of 5 eggsRevision to my earlier review

Pros: Runs quiet, chews through most programs with ease (for games runs most titles on enthusiest)

Cons: Unstable.
This product is poorly constructed, the internal components are all high end, except, for the power supply. The internal power supply is only 300watt, the video card for example has a minimum power requirement of 450 watts as listed by the manufacturer.

After 2 months of ownership the power supply burned out and took the graphics card with it.

Gateway's solution is that i spend $60 to send the system halfway across the country for 2-3 weeks, to replace the broken components so that the same thing can happen again in a month or two.

Other Thoughts: I bought a new power supply (relativly inexpensive) because I was going to need one no matter the outcome and I offered to ship only the defective parts to gateway (save myself and the company $40-$50 shipping and handling) but they adamantly refuse any negotiation of a solution.

Will not buy gateway again.
