5 out of 5 eggsPure UEFI Firmware

Pros: - Price/Power/Performance of AMD Jaguar(Kabini)
- Pure UEFI Firmware, Linux dual-boots nicely with Windows 8
- Full SLAT support in Linux/KVM (nested HyperVisors)

Cons: - Pure UEFI Firmware, no PC BIOS, will be very confusing to many OS installers
- Legacy PC BIOS PXEBoot will not work, need UEFI capable PXEBoot

Other Thoughts: I now have both the SX2110 (Bobcat-Zacate) and now SX2185 (Jaguar-Kabini). For Linux users, there's a lot of ignorance of the "pure" UEFI firmware and default GPT disk label. In a nutshell ...

- slice 1 (400MB) is Gateway's recovery boot (hidden/diag NTFS) partition
- slice 2 (300MB) is EFI (FAT32) partition <= Linux's /boot/efi
- slice 3 (tiny) is Windows hidden area partition
- slice 4 (all but 16GB) is main C: drive (NTFS) partition
- slice 5 (16GB) is Gateway's recovery data (hidden/diag NTFS) partition

I used the pre-existing allocation, but used Windows 8 to shrink slice 4 down to 128GB. This allowed me to add Linux slices (6+). During Linux installation, I informed the installer (Fedora/Red Hat Anaconda) that slice 2 is where /boot/efi should be located (EFI partition). The installer drops the appropriate bootx64.efi in this partition, which then shows up in the UEFI firmware.

E.g., on my system, I have, in the firmware itself, instead of "Disk Drive," the actual OSes:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Windows Boot
And I can hit F12 at boot (yes, the firmware boot selector) to switch between them, it remembers the "last" selection. With UEFI and a EFI partition in GPT, the firmware actually reads the EFI partition for its boot files, intelligently. It'll see Linux and Windows.

Any modern Linux installer that handles UEFI/GPT correctly *should* do this without issue. It does it not only for Fedora (GRUB2), but the support has been backported to older (2010-era) RHEL6 (GRUB 0.97) as well. Your distribution may vary, especially if it does not handle advanced storage correctly.

Anaconda (Fedora/Red Hat) very much does, as most of us have been using native UEFI booting in enterprises for 3+ years now. For network boot, one will also need to use UEFI network boot files (pxelinux/bootx64.efi), and not any legacy file (pxelinux.0). Managing this with Cobbler for various hardware profiles or using boot-time/network-time options makes it a lot easier to differentiate between UEFI and legacy PC BIOS.

4 out of 5 eggsExtremely good for the price

Pros: Rock solid, works well, extremely affordable at the $310 price I've been getting them at.

Cons: Cannot run Linux, Windows 8 key is in the BIOS. Dual monitor must be done through VGA and HDMI

Other Thoughts: Great for the price, I've purchased several of these and had no issues thus far. The only issue has been the door on the front for USB stuff has broken. Cannot build a PC with anywhere near these specs for the price that includes a Windows 8 license.
