2 out of 5 eggsThis PC seems to be ok but, then it is problem after problem

Pros: Windows 8, ease of use, plenty of USB ports, and disc drive.

Cons: Had to replace the power supply box right after we had the computer for a year. Now year two it is in an Automatic Repair Loop that I have tried to fix but, am now going to have to take it to a computer repair shop. :(

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Desktop, except for Windows 8

Pros: Processor is fast, hard drive is fast enough, system is stable, plenty of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, minimal crapware. Very adequate for a home or office desktop.

Cons: Small power supply will not support a decent add-in graphics card, integrated graphics are not adequate for any sort of gaming, 6GB of RAM is not adequate for Windows 8 (I constantly get low memory warnings while running Chrome and Microsoft Word/Excel), integrated graphics system DOES NOT support multiple monitors. Windows 8 is irritating to me. I've been using this for about 5 months now and it still takes me longer to do most things than Windows 7 did. The Metro apps are cute but slow to load. This is a problem with Windows 8 and I guess all new computers come with it these days. Not knocking off an egg for it, I'm just venting.

Other Thoughts: I use this desktop in a business setting. I need at least two monitors for my work and I could not get multiple monitors to work while one was plugged into the VGA port and the other plugged into HDMI. I am having to run a USB 3.0 display adapter and that has some problems associated with it. This is FINE for basic stuff and will be inadequate for anything graphics- or memory-intensive without upgrading GPU/RAM/power supply.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Pros: None

Cons: I purchase this computer and received it exactly one month ago yesterday. It will not power on at all. I called customer service and they will not do any thing.

Other Thoughts: Very Disappointed!

4 out of 5 eggsfast, not top quality

Pros: fast chip, fast onboard video, works well, inexpensive for this level of performance (under $450), nice touch with lighting, and ability to turn it off.

Cons: expansion capabilities, windows 8, longevity to be determined.

Other Thoughts: we used this for a new autocad station. had to downgrade the software operating system to XP Pro due to software limitations. Wiped the drive and installed clean XP. The computer blows through autocad effortlessly, loads files quickly and the onboard video card is very quick. No need for a separate card. For a solid performance, I am willing to overlook some of the minor quirks. By the way, audio jacks became unusable - had to use USB speakers.

4 out of 5 eggsBeware when installing a video card

Pros: Excellent price when it was advertised as a Shell Shocker deal.

Cons: Limited room for upgrades, seemingly proprietary sized PSU area, no manual on-line at gateway or manual sent with the computer.

Biggest con: Removal of PCI-E expansion slot blanks on the case.

Other Thoughts: I bought this computer while advertised as a shell shocker, bought a AMD HD7850 and Raidmax PSU that were also on sale, and when removing the top expansion blank in the rear of the case, as soon as it moved forward I heard chatter of something scattering across the board, when I went to install the gfx card, I noticed components missing from the board, and instantly knew what had happened. There is literally no room to remove the blanks while the motherboard is installed. There is another slot that had a component next to it lower on the case, but beware removal of the lower slot would cause similar damage.

BEWARE: The expansion slots blanks are tack welded in place.(similar to a in-wall electrical wiring box - typically they're knocked out) It would now seem that you must remove the motherboard prior to removing these, due to the fact they come into direct contact with components on the motherboard (specifically the first slot/PCI-E slot)

Learn from my mistake - pressing them in to flex them out will cause damage to your motherboard.

The computer still functions but will take time to see what damage was caused in the end.

Of the 50+ computers I've built/repaired over the years, I've never seen a motherboard seated flush with the expansion slot, no less one that has components less than .25" from the pivot point.

With the card installed it seems that the motherboard/case alignment isn't right. When installed, the card outputs don't align with the two gaps left from the removal of the blanks. No amount of tilting the card while in the slot can achieve a unblocked hdmi /display port. The DVI ports aren't an issue.

1 out of 5 eggsLook for a better product

Pros: DOA

Cons: Bought two of these. One works ok the other would not boot. Newegg had no stock so I send it in for repair. Repair instructions stress the packing for the computer. Had to pay for shipping and the computer had not workied. Received the computer back damaged by Fedex. Had to ship back to repair again only to get a phone call that repairs would cost me over $ 200. Finally got that corrected, but still do not have the computer back after owning for 3 months. They even back dated the warranty, so it will have only 6 months warranty.

Other Thoughts: Buy a better computer from a different manufacturer.

Cons: Poor manufacturing and quality control

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, Up-gradable, Mainstream Computer

Pros: What I like: Out of the box, this computer is good to go. Set up is quick and default options are what I would choose myself. There is minimal bloatware. WEI is 5.2 (anchored by Desktop Graphics). This computer is very quiet. The fans are all BIG so they do not have to spin as fast. The fan on the CPU is enclosed in a cylinder which routes the warm air to a vent on the side of the case. There are TEN usb ports including two USB 3.0 ports on the back for new, fast usb disks. There are ports on the top of the case and at the top front of the case. The top front of the case is angled making it easy to 1) see the ports, and 2) plug stuff into the ports.

What I love: This computer is great for tinkerers. While the i5 3330 is a noble processor and the HD 2500 integrated graphics are fine for most, we plan to upgrade this computer. I was delighted to see how much bigger the case was on the inside than the outside. There are three 3.5" bays (one occupied) and two 5.25" bays (one occupied), so adding a BD player and a couple hard drives is trivial. There are two empty RAM slots so you can add to rather than upgrade the memory. There are four PCIe slots (one occupied by the wireless card), so you can upgrade the video to a discrete card. The power supply is standard form, so adding extra power for all those upgrades is a piece of cake.

Cons: The keyboard is completely unimpressive. It lacks dedicated media controls and feels cheap. To be fair, it works just fine.

Other Thoughts: I actually own the UR28 which is this model with 2g more memory and a very good wireless card. I replaced the PSU with a SeaSonic G Series 550-Watt SSR-550RM ( L 160 x W150 x H86 mm or 6.3" x 5.9" x 3.4" or, with your ruler, 6 1/2" x 6" x 3 1/2"). This PSU was ~0.5" deeper than the one that came in my mid-tower. The little tab that used to hold my PSU against the back of the case is under this PSU. Otherwise, no big deal. I also added a video card (FX795ATDFC 7950) and moved the wireless card over a slot. Again, plenty of room for the card and an uneventful upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsQuestions answered & More

Pros: This may be the inexpensive quad core i5 I have been waiting for but the device description is limited. Too much info about how pretty the case is, and no information about expansion slots, audio capabilities, and ability of 300 w PS to handle additional expansion cards. Anyone's response to my questions today (Shellshocker) would be appreciated.

Cons: Thank you for the expansion slot information. I, like others I'm sure, was looking specifically for that, but the description was incomplete. Are all 4 slots open, or is there a USB 3.0 card taking up one of them? Are they aligned so that a video card would also cancel out the use of a X1 slot? What is the max video resolution?

Other Thoughts: Sounds like an excellent deal for an "everyday" desktop, but getting a complete technical description has been like pulling teeth. The technology of the MB may be little outdated as evidenced by the multiple USB 2.0 connectors and only 2 USB 3.0 (located in the rear). That would be OK for the price, but there is absolutely no info about the MB or cooling system other than the stated 4 memory slots. I've got 23 hours to make up my mind, but little information available to help make the decision.
