5 out of 5 eggsVery happy with my purchase

Pros: Very snappy performance with basic Windows productivity. Windows 8 rates the gaming graphics performance as a 6, which is not too shabby for integrated graphics on a unit this cheap (I purchased the refurbished version). Windows 8.1 upgrade went through quickly and smoothly.(it's Windows so expect to spend at least an hour running updates after you first turn it on)

Cons: The graphics card *greatly* out classes the CPU performance. While Windows 8 rates the gaming graphics performance as a 6, the cpu is rated as a 3.8. Also, the blue/white light LEDs on this thing are *inexcusably* bright. In a dark room you can hardly look at them. Seriously, they pierce the soul. (something to think about if you are planning to use it as an HTPC unit)

Other Thoughts: I was looking to get my hands on an inexpensive Windows 8 license to replace my ancient XP disc. I'm more of a Linux user, but I do tech support and live in the real world so I still need to have a copy of Windows installed *somewhere* for support and running those programs that haven't made it into the Linux world.

As for Linux support on this computer, it's a bit spotty. You'll want to install a very recent version of the OS so that you can deal with the UEFI that Windows 8 is installed with (I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 and it installed the select able boot loader without issue). However, performance under Linux is not as good as under Windows 8. I suspect this is due to the newer chipset not being well supported yet (I think the APU was released in October 2013), so this *may* improve over the next year or so.

Currently, I'm using it in windows mode for web surfing, running Linux VM's, and some retro (read "light") gaming. It's working beautifully for all of these purposes. (Though I'm thinking of doubling the RAM for the virtual machines.)

4 out of 5 eggsNice adequate pc

Pros: Complete upgradable Windows 8.1 system with adequate performance. Not a gaming machine but fine for internet surfing, email and MS Office. More capable than the top systems from 3 years ago. The HDMI port makes it adequate for a basic HTPC use.

Cons: Other than the limited horsepower, the system in not that expandable. No SATA connectors are untaken so expansion of drive space is limited.

Other Thoughts: It is tough to justify adding RAM and drive space to older 32 bit Vista and Windows 7 systems when this starts out with more memory and hard drive than those systems had.
These appear to be Acer systems with no real use by the prior owner if there was any. The power supply in mine was 80 bronze certified.

5 out of 5 eggsI probably buy a 3rd one

Pros: 28nm APU means less power needed thus desktop heats up your room less.

Cons: Have to update to Win 8.1, the drivers and the risky & terrifying BIOS update.

Other Thoughts: Fired up 1st one Feb. 8, 2014. Both run on 8gb (Crucial & RipJaw),
I have 2 of these.

Replaced HD with Samsung 840 SSD to lower the power usage.
It's running most of the time with.
Have external SSD connected via USB to record TV.
This one is connected to TV and used as BD & DVDR.

The other Gateway was a gift to a 12yr old boy.
If my Mac loving X is willing to add a PC I'll get one for her.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: This computer is a total lemon and it's not refundable. I am stuck with a piece of garbage and a lighter wallet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great value, I took a chance on a reconditioned, but no disappointments so far- looks to be unused, not even a fingerprint I could see and still had the plastic film on it. Bought to replace a aging XP box for Remote Desktop to my work desktop, so my CPU needs are minimal but at the time it was a touch better speed and video than the other recond. for the same price. WIth the HDMI Netflix plays fine. Wouldn't hesitate to order another - 169 for this was a steal.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Win 8 (up'ed to 8.1 with no issues ) - meh , I'll live with it.

Need to dump a old dog XP like I did this is a fine way to go.

4 out of 5 eggsMuch better than I expected

Pros: This is one great deal, Wanted a backup for my other desktop
(Acer Aspire 3910) and wasn't expecting much with this deal.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I put this computer through it's paces. Although processor speed is only 1.40ghz
this baby is quick! No lags or hangups when web browsing 0r multi-tasking. Compares favorably with my Acer. I paid $159 and it comes with win 8. Worth every cent, If you want a backup computer or even a main desktop don't hesitate.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Be advised: This unit does not have a network card installed.
I purchased a Rosewill nw adapter (reviewed elsewhere) for $10.99 and I was off to the races!

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: None

Cons: Arrived physically damaged. Would not turn on out of box. Had some nice gouges on the side that were covered up by sharpie. Smelled like burned electronics when I turned it on. Have to wait 2 week for a return. Wouldn't recommend this or buying from newegg at all.

5 out of 5 eggsMy mom loves it.

Pros: Great little PC at this price point, it does everything my mom could ever want or need it to.

Cons: The mouse had a small broken piece of PCB rattling around inside, it still worked but was annoying so I chucked it. I had planned on replacing the supplied mouse with something nicer anyway since it was for my mom, so not really a con for me.

Other Thoughts: There was a $20 rebate when I bought one, so this PC replaced my moms ancient WinXP machine for hardly more than Windows 8 costs alone... which is important since Microsoft will be ending XP updates and support on April 8th.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Low Cost SFF Refurb

Pros: I don't know why this unit hasn't gotten more good reviews like it's older SX2185 siblings. Perhaps the refurbs of the UB37 just haven't been available as often. In any case, it comes with a slightly more powerful processor and video APU than they do and also offers USB 3.0, which is great for external storage. It's in the same case, and I'm sure it's just as quiet.

My unit was made recently (9/13) and was in pristine condition. It may have been a return, but I'm sure it was never used.

I actually wanted Windows 8, so that was a plus. Upgrade to 8.1 went smoothly after going to Gateway and installing the latest (10/13) drivers first.

Cons: Power on and disk activity LEDs are way too bright. Will probably tape them over. No USB 3.0 ports in back. Would have liked a DVI connector, but what do you expect at this price?

Other Thoughts: Only has 4GB memory, as speced. (Gee, a sub-$200 computer that doesn't come with 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory.)
