Good computer for the price
- Pros: -Good price, even when compared to other black Friday deals.
-Carder reader, in case I ever need one. -My processor is actually a 2.6ghz processor, unlike the 2.5 advertised. -This system is very upgradeable-up to 8gigs. -Discrete video card with 512mb of ram, it can handle light gaming very well and it certainly does what I bought it to do. -Quiet machine, I can leave this on for days at a time and it's still so quiet you have to stop everything that you are doing in order to hear the sound of the fan. -Very nice LCD screen. Prior to this, I was using an old CRT monitor; a big improvement. -I like white, the tower and monitor look nice together.
- Cons: -160 gigs of space? I don't download anything big, but I could definitely do with a bigger hard drive.
-250 Wat power supply? I have no problems with it, but if you want to upgrade, get yourself a better power supply. -3 gigs of ram is plenty for what I do, but it's only at 400mhz. That's the weakest possible DDR2 ram you can get. -Vista.... At the very least I'm downgrading to XP soon. It took me forever to set up my internet connection. -The operating system is 32-bit, so don't upgrade beyond 4 gigs of ram unless you get a new OS. -Monitor speakers suck, but I use headphones.
- Other Thoughts: This is definitely a good machine for people that use their computers for surfing the web and light gaming. This machine can definitely handle what a casual user would throw at it. If you're looking for a decent computer with a good price, you can't go wrong with buying this or building one.
Excellent Deal!
- Pros: Price: You can't build this computer for this amount of money.
Processor: Ours actually came w/ a 2.6GHz 5050e rather than the 2.5GHz advertised :)
Video card: the g100 is basically a rebranded nVidia GeForce 9300GT from what I can find out and ran a Bioshock demo I downloaded well on medium settings very well. Also along w/ the standard VGA output it has a DVI (I didn't test this) and an HDMI port. (personally tested) Don't believe the product description on the emachines website. This has an actual 512 mb graphics card and not ingrated graphics.
Aesthethics: as long as you like white, this matching monitor and tower really look great.
Memory slots: This mobo has 4 rather than the "usual" 2 which means you can upgrade this system up to 8gig... after you "upgrade" to a 64 bit operating system... check cons for more of an explaination.
Sata 2: the hard drive and optical drive are both sata 2 (which means very fast data retrieval) and there are 2 open sata ports.
Very
- Cons: Monitor speakers: They sound really quiet and very high toned. No... worse than what you are thinking. Worse... my laptop sounds ton better... sadly.
Hard drive size: 160 is stinky but you can't complain for the price.
Operating system: the processor is 64 bit but the the vista shipped w/ this is 32 bit. This is good because it will run more programs but is bad because it won't recognize ram beyond 4 gig. To use the 8 possible on this system (3 gig is what it comes w/ and that is fine for bioshock, adobe photoshop cs3, nero 7, etc.) you have to upgrade to a 64 bit operating system. You can upgrade to windows 7 home premium thru the emachines web site offer but only to the 32 bit version since that is what this originally comes with. Meh.
Power supply: 250 watts? Seriously? This is very weak as AMD recommends @ least a 300 for this mobo, let alone that this system has its own graphics card. Before you add ANYTHING hardware wise, upgrade the power supply or you may burn it all u
- Other Thoughts: Overall, I am very very pleased w/ our purchase of this system. It is so so quiet compared to and computer I have EVER heard which surprises me since the graphics card has its own fan. You literally have to turn everything in the room off and put your ear 2 the case to be able hear it @ all.
In my opinion, for the price AND the upgradability of this system, there isn't a better deal out there, including these "black friday" deals. Lots of the computers out there right now for similar prices, including what is here on newegg, only have 2 ram ports which means 4 gig is your max. Right now 4 is fine but someday that won't be enough. The 2.6GHz dual core processor in this will be fine for quite a good while for general purpose stuff along w/ the rest of the system. For the price, this is as "future proof" you are going to get for $358ish shipped.
Can you tell how happy I am overall w/ this computer? :)
All around good computer
- Pros: Cheap price, good bundle, quiet fan, light weight, white cases on box, keyboard, and lcd screen. Card reader, Label Flash in the DVD +RW drive.
- Cons: Lcd Screen stand kinda awkward, Comes with Windows Vista and no reinstall disk for operating system or software that is already installed. Comes with no driver disk, have to download drivers from manufacturers website. Speakers in monitor are a bit quiet.
- Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a pretty decent computer for the price, this computer is the way to go. Unless you are looking to build one, I would recommend this machine to anyone.
