4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Researched and bought this machine and upgraded it rightaway with additional memory, graphics and blueray drive, works perfect, its my baby!

Cons: Its too small inside for upgrades, watch out when buying graphics and other cards.

Other Thoughts: It'll last me for some time to come, no problems in the last 3 years or so I've had it.

1 out of 5 eggsLook for a different brand

Pros: Works nice when it doesn't do crash dumps and freezes.

Cons: I've owned this machine since Nov 2010. It's now on it's way back from Acer Repair for the 3rd time. It intermittently freezes , does crash dumps, and restarts for no apparent reason (same problem for all 3 returns). First time the said they couldn't duplicate the problem, Second time they reinstalled Windows7 do to a "suspected malware problem". What the hell is that? It either is or it isn't malware. If they don't fix it this time, I'll call the Attorney General office.
I'm not a geek, but have built, fixed, tested computers for 30 years. I found no virusus, malware, registry problems, and ran many tests to test the memory, cpu, etc. and nothing was found. It's the last emachine product I'll buy.

1 out of 5 eggsCrashed and Burned after about 4 months

Pros: New. Lots of bells at a good price and the small form factor is great!

Cons: Starting getting the dreaded BSOD. Really bad after trying to run Windows Live Movie Maker. For some reason WMM pegs both cores at 100%. Finally had to restore to original and reinstall. Still didn't work. Serveral failed restores even. Finally ran the Memeory Diag and it failed. Just sent machine in for Service. Sure hope this isn't a sign of the future... A brand new computer should work!

4 out of 5 eggsGood machine

Pros: Easy setup. Compact design. Very quiet. Light weight. Lots of USB ports.

Cons: Compact design may make it difficult to get parts if needed. No eternal Esata ports. Limited expansion.

Other Thoughts: As always Newegg shipped quickly. If you want this machine get it from NEWEGG!!

2 out of 5 eggsMisMatched Specs

Pros: Stable Design on Motherboard chipset, been aroumd at least 3 Years. Good Value

Cons: Despite Nvidia's atempt to make the spec disapear, the HT Bus capibilities of this chipset is 2,000 max. The CPU's HT Bus spec is 4,000. I wonder how much faster the system might feel with a motherboard chipset that properly mtches the CPU

Other Thoughts: Over the last 6 months, Nvidia has done a job re-writing their spec sheets to hide the HT Bus spec or use a different value system then the AMD CPUs to hide this spec.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Basic Machine

Pros: Perfect Machine for Parents/Grandparents. The combo of Win7 and this particular hardware spread makes for a pretty effective mix.
- Run DeCrapify
- shut down all the silly stuff
- install Msoft Security Essentials
- Use Chrome, OpenOffice, Thunderbird
- Load LogMeIn
Result? Scary fast boot (pops right out of hibernation too) with extremely fast program launches on that particular batch of programs. The slowest it Thunderbird of course - if they have a decent net connection throw them onto Gmail or other.
-SUPER quiet
-plenty of USB on the back and extra bits on the front
-There is space for another Drive by the way - SATA all the way.
Very happy to be able to drop this machine off to grandparents - a definite "welcome to the future" kind of thing.
-Nice small footprint, nice keyboard too - feels a little like a laptop keyboard or the new Logitech backlits. Basic mouse. In the end - set it up and walk away.

Cons: Ok, so not the standard power supply, could be an issue later it it pops but doubtful. This is not a game machine. If you think your're going to load Crysis then please go away.
-Adding a vid card? not so much, it's only got a 250watt power supply so you're not going to be able to cheat that.

Other Thoughts: With Win7, one of the things that seems to have changed was allowing the system to focus more on UI. So things do actually FEEL faster all around. Mix that in with 64 bit and a few quick loaders like Chrome and you're going to have a very different experience with any hardware....

To be quite honest it FEELS about as fast as my heavy lifting machine with a good SSD, that kinda makes me a little jealous. And now the price has dropped to $350? crazy.

2 out of 5 eggsValue PC

Pros: This is a lot of computer for the money. It pretty much has all the bread and butter stuff you would expect for a home pc. I bought for a elderly homeowner so he could access the internet and check his email.

Cons: Out of the the box the PC would not boot up. It keep coming up to the Windows 7 safe mode screen. I opened the case and looked for loose cables. Nothing. I called for support and ended up with a guy that had very poor english. I'm patient with them because it goes with my job. I'm a tech. Their tech didn't seem to like to have to repeat himself but what are you going to do? After I jumped thru all of his hoops and nothing worked he said I'll send you a windows 7 disc. It will be there in 3 to 8 days. I didn't think too much waiting that long for a set of discs that should have come with the machine. Those poor techs are given a support decision tree and not allowed to deviate from the script. I believe that is why he didn't catch what was really wrong with the pc. If this machine worked out of the box I would have given it 5 bars. 1 bar goes to having a problem. 1 bar goes to sending the call out of the country. 1 bar goes to their tech missing what was wrong.

Other Thoughts: After I got off the phone I noticed the big silver e didn't look right. I hadn't really thought much of it before because it was just mildly tweaked. So I tried to boot into the system bios. I then discovered a huge amount of what is called artifacting. I knew right away it was either memory or motherboard. I inspected the memory a second time. It looked good. I pulled it anyway. I put everything back together and the computer booted perfectly. It has run like a champ ever since. Somehow that memory wasn't making good contact. I dread the thought if this had happened to someone who doesn't know much about computers.

5 out of 5 eggsHow do they do it ???

Pros: Fast, Quiet, Quick initial setup. Can barely hear this thing running. After buying an eMachines laptop in March and being happy with it, and my folks having one that is pushing 8 yrs old with no issues, I decided to purchase a desktop.
Took me about a couple of hours to make recovery disks, delete the unwanted software and partition the drive.

This thing is great for web browsing, email, newsgroups, and general applications. Not a gamer, so can't comment on the ability or lack of to run games. Plays video files with no problems.
Combined with the new Hanns-G monitor I am very pleased with this setup for just under $500.
Thanks again NewEgg!!!

Cons: Small keyboard size, adequate mouse. No specific user manual, just a fold out quick start guide.

Other Thoughts: Free and fast shipping!! Ordered on Wed, received on Fri.

3 out of 5 eggsSlim Case !!

Pros: Attractive specs and price.

Cons: Small form factor.

Other Thoughts: Nearly bought this for my son. Somewhere we noticed that the case is 10" high and less than 4" wide. More careful look at the pics (thanks for great pics, Newegg!) shows that (a) both HD and DVD drive are vertically mounted (b) power supply is not a standard PC power supply (c) does not appear to be room inside for another drive. So we'll probably a different eMachines model, perhaps the ET1831-07 which has terrific reviews.

4 out of 5 eggsquick little computer

Pros: small compact tower, can fit easily on a desktop or on the floor without being in the way. everything ran very smoothly and was able to multitask without any hiccups. great for home office.

Cons: does not play video games well at all- attempted to run left 4 dead and had to turn everything down to minimum and it still lagged horribly. thought the video card would be an upgrade from the ati x1000 series, but i guess it wasn't.

Other Thoughts: because it was unable to run any of my games very well, i returned it and (thankfully) got store credit. this is an awesome computer and the price is excellent, but don't buy it with the intention of using it for gaming.
