4 out of 5 eggsnot bad if you dont want to upgrade

Pros: if your ok with whats listed then this is a pretty good value so far. Quiet, runs cool and performance exactly what you would expect from the hardware

Cons: bottom line, not expansion friendly. I wanted to stick an EIDE hard drive from a previous computer and theres no EIDE heder, anywhere, and the only addtional power cable is SATA.

Did I mention the ONLY additional cable from the powersupply is a SATA power cable?

I just bought a GTX 285 for another system a few weeks and was planning on putting my old nvidia 7900 in this box for kicks. It has a slot for it indicating that there shouldnt be any trouble actually installing the card. Well the card fits in fine, the mobo recognizes it on boot up but theres nothing in there to power the freakin thing, depressing. Why put slots in when theres no way to use them?

Other Thoughts: Anyhow, Ive dragged out an older antec 350 psu, once i track down some sata power adapters Im going to try to install it though DELL use t put proprietary power plugs on their MBs ruling out the aftermarket psu solution, lets hope it doesnt...

4 out of 5 eggsValue

Pros: Great specs for price, some expansion is available, case is neat inside, quiet, includes both OS on discs, a rare plus in this day. Price is very good for specs.

Cons: Warranty is apparently dated from Newegg's purchase from Dell To avoid confusion, Newegg should state that on the product page. Apparently, the older the stock, the less warranty one will obtain from Dell. Not an issue for me, but others have already noted the issue.

Memory limitation indicates that this is designed to be a 32bit OS box.

Other Thoughts: This is a value buy. Provides a basic machine with excellent specs for basic operation.

4 out of 5 eggsDell Vostro 220

Pros: Loads with Windows XP, very little bloatware, fast machine. Option for 32 bit Windows Vista. Upgraded memory to 4 Gigs. This is a great desktop!

Cons: No restore partition. Dell does not list NewEgg as a reseller on their site and you cannot correct your purchase date to extend your warranty to match your purchase date. I was told by Dell to call NewEgg.

Other Thoughts: Internet Explorer 8 did not agree with other windows updates and programs installed. Manual installation of the Operating System and Driver requires some technical knowledge as there is no "Recovery Partition" or "Recovery Image". Make one immediately!

3 out of 5 eggsBad Case design

Pros: Boots up fast under XP or Vista. You get to pick your flavor of OS's and it come with recovery media for both.

Cons: 5.25 bay flaps cannot be removed for clear access to the two available 5.25 drive bays. I wanted to put a swappable Hard drive bay in the 2nd bay below the optical drive. Can't do it because the spring loaded bay flaps cannot be removed from the bezel with hacking away at it. Reviewed issue with Dell tech support and they state the two bays can only be used for Optical drives. If thats the case then their tech specs should say just that.

Other Thoughts: Other than the drive bay issue the system is very nice. The review by "Your Mom" indicated that a HIS ATI 4650 512mb Video Card wss installed. That card states you should have a min 400 watt PSU. I would be concerned about negating the warranty with that card installed.

5 out of 5 eggsA Sleeper (cont'd)

Pros: E8400 chip includes Intel's VT. This Vostro works well with the XP Mode beta using Microsoft's Virtual PC add-on.

Cons: n/a

5 out of 5 eggsA Sleeper

Pros: Matches anything in the middle of Dell's home computer lineup AND it comes with XP installed. 32-bit XP and Vista CDs are provided for recovery/reinstallation. Minimal crapware. E8400 chip at 3.0 GHz is plenty fast for most tasks. Quiet. Has PS/2 and serial ports.

Cons: No DVI video connector; only VGA analog. Limited expansion possibilities because of case design and a smallish power supply.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent choice for mainstream computing. Performance can be improved by moving from 2 Gb to 4 Gb of RAM. I used Kingston kit KVR800D2N5K2/4G. I give this box five stars because it is an excellent design for typical home and small business use. If you're a heavy-duty gamer or do a lot of video editing, get a Core i7 with discrete graphics.

5 out of 5 eggsDell Vostro 220

Pros: Ok, It just so happened that I was in the market to buy a computer and then all of the sudden I see these Dell Vostro's on here, normally I don't buy pre-made computers but It had everything I was really looking for and at a price under what I would pay if I built it myself.

Pro's
Good Processor (Core 2 Duo 8400, 175 on newegg
Good Mobo (Intel G45 Chipset), cheapest g45 board is around 80)
Decent onboard Video (X4500HD, One of the best as far as onboard goes)
Your choice of either Vista Business or XP Pro (Both good operating systems, will run you 125ish)
Decent SATA HD and SATA DVD Burner
Case is very nice, lots of room to work
Memory is samsung ddr2 800 dual channel (but only 2 gb)

Cons: The Vista Business is 32-bit, but still a good operating system. Only comes with 2 GB ram (2 x 1gb DDR2 800), Only a 300 watt PSU (But seems to work good)

For the price though its pretty incredible considering the processor and operating system alone would cost you 300 bucks.

Other Thoughts: Out of the box I chose Vista Business, and got the following vista scores: Processor: 5.6, Memory: 5.9, Graphics: 4.4, Gaming Graphics: 4.1, Hard Drive:5.7 Not bad for a 429 dollar machine

When I bought the machine I also bought a 4gb mem kit (2 x 2gb) and a HIS ATI 4650 512mb Video Card (Works well with the stock PSU). It was only an 80 buck upgrade but now I have a machine that will run you 700-800 bucks at a local or chain store.

After the upgrade my graphics score went up to 5.0 and gaming graphics went to 5.3

I know its slated as a "business machine" but its handles games pretty good now with the upgrade, just installed crysis and everything auto set to high, and game is as smooth as silk.
