4 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck! - continued..

Pros: - Low price
- Windows 7 Professional
- 7200rpm hard disk
- New mouse/keyboard combo
- Gigabit ethernet
- Little Bloatware
- Value per dollar

Cons: - Packaging
- Appearance (scratches and dings)
- Older DDR2 667mhz memory
- Very Dirty !

Other Thoughts: This is a continuation of my last review, the reason for this one is that I wanted to make other buyers aware of CONSISTENCY ISSUES. The first I got had 2x1GB DDR2 667 RAM, the second two came in with 4x512mb DDR2 667 RAM. Not a big deal, except that I had ordered two on purpose based on my previous unit, along with 2x2GB of RAM. Why you might ask? I had every intention of what I assumed would be 2 similar machines coming the same as the one I got from the week before, with 2x1GB sticks. Take 2 sticks from one, put it in the other, add the new RAM from the unit I just stole from and BAM - 2 machines with 4GB DDR2 ready to rock! Nope.. since the builds are not consistent, now I am a little miffed and either have to sacrifice RAM, or spend more money. Just so you all know, the 'refurbisher' was the same company: U.S. Micro Corporation. That was not the issue. I also found the packaging on these units to be sub-par also, and one of the speakers on the front case had fallen out and broke a mounting tab from the transportation abuse. Word of the wise, don't order any parts ahead of time with thoughts of upgrading until you have the case open on these...

Other Thoughts: I wish I would have written down the company name of the "refurbisher", because I almost called them, worried.. The packaging job was horrid, when my machine came, it was only setting in 1 of the 2 small foam protector elements within the box. It was as if the box was just a little too large for the machine size. When I first picked it up, you could hear stuff shaking around inside.. not a good sign. I opened it up and found some plastic pieces bouncing around in there, one from the front face plate tab, the other from a motherboard connector to what looks like an add-on serial port where the cable had detached. Also, it appears as if they don't bother too clean them too well before sending them out. I went through half a can of compressed air to blow out all the dust bunnies and debris on the cooling fins before putting it back together. Luckily it fired rite up even after the abuse during shipping.. good testament to the build quality of the product! All in all, if you know what your getting into (refurbished device) then these are really just minor annoyances. I slapped in a couple extra 1GB sticks of DDR2 667 I had and this things moves. It won't be doing any heavy gaming or video editing with ease, but for the average user, it will be just perfect. The keyboard and mouse come new in boxes (they are not Dell® by the way) and work fine. The machine had little on it other than OpenOffice and CDburnerXP, which I didn't understand since there is not DVD/CD-RW drive in the machine. I reformatted the whole thing anyway with the included discs, because I wanted a 64bit flavor and it came 32bit. All in all, it was well worth the investment, it really only costs a little bit more that just a Windows 7 Pro license itself. I am actually ordering a couple more.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Machines

Pros: I bought 2 of these, both had service tag #'s, they came with, Processor, E6550, 2.33, 4MB Core Duo-conroe, Hard Drive, 80GB, S2, 7.2K, 8MB Unleaded, HIT-PD, 2 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE..., 1G, 667M, 128X64, 8, 240, 2RX8, 8X DVD-ROM Drive for Dell OptiPlex 740/ 755 Energy Smart. 32 bit and 64 bit Window 7 Professional DvDs, little to no bloatware. They are fast! great value for the the dollar.

Cons: the case is really small, only 1 PCI and 1 PCIe slots to expand with, if you are planing on upgrading the video card it will have to be a low profile card that does not need its own power connector,
case had a few scratches on them,
all of the above should be expected buying a refurbished SFF.

Other Thoughts: Current windows rated:
CPU- 5.6
RAM - 5.5
Graphics - 3.9
Gaming graphic - 3.4
HD - 5.3
Great for students, have to upgrade the video card if you are thinking about gaming with it.
