5 out of 5 eggsEXCELLENT!!

Pros: Excellent deal!

Unit came packed perfectly with ZERO signs it was ever even opened. So as far as condition goes: Perfect like brand new.

There was ZERO bloatware. The only thing I removed was Mcafee (I prefer another antivirus)

Runs super quiet and cool.

Probably the cleanest factory build I have ever received.

Well laid out. Nice sleek case design.

Cons: NONE (other than I didn't buy a second one for myself when I could)

There were a few items I changed. See other thoughts for good changes.

Other Thoughts: Some hints if you purchased one and have any audio issues, or HD...

Units came with OS installed on 2TB drive and the SSD was blank. Sort of backwards from what you would expect.

I used Acronis to clone the 2TB to the SSD to make that the boot/os drive and formatted the 2TB as a storage drive.
The SSD is already properly optimized so no need to re-install OS. Just disable disk defrag after it's moved to the SSD. SSD's don't get defragged. It is actually harmful to SSD's.

Once I moved the OS to the SSD I then updated the bios. My unit came with A09 bios installed. The latest is A10.

These also came with an upgraded soundcard installed in the bottom pcie slot. However they did not disable the onboard sound on the motherboard. They also did not install the drivers for the upgraded card.

Boot into the machine (hitting F12 as it starts.
Choose the BIOS opton
Go to the Advanced tab and choose "Integrated Peripherals" and disable onboard audio.
Then exit the bios saving changes

Install the audio drivers for the "Recon3D" sound card from the dell driver page for the XPS 8500.

Now your in good shape! This will solve problems with the front mic/headphone jacks and some older programs that will default on wrong audio device.

I can not say enough about this deal! These were under $1000 and to configure the same machine at dell is over $1900.

This thing is insanely fast! Wonderful machine at a great price!

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome value

Pros: I don't think I could build a comparable machine from scratch for this money. Dell quality. No refurb evidence anywhere -- indistinguishable from new. High quality components. SSD is a Samsung mSATA PM830 -- not the latest model but a highly regarded choice from the previous generation of SSDs.

Cons: Just two.

First, the system has little expansion capability. Just one PCIe-x1 slot open and room for one HDD and one Optical drive. There is an open PCIe-x16 slot, but the video card plugged into the adjacent slot physically obstructs it so that it can't be used.

But the big con is Dell's mysterious choice to install the OS on the HDD instead of the SSD. This just means you have to spend hours getting the machine set up the way it ought to be, including downloading all the drivers from Dell that you'll need, which partly counters the incentive to buy a ready-made machine. The good news is that the OS install is much faster on the SSD than it is on a HDD.

Other Thoughts: I opened the case to install a hard drive and a FireWire card before I turned the thing on, and I seriously thought for a few minutes that the SSD had been left out of the system. Eventually I figured out that it was hiding under the end of the video card. It's an mSATA bare card SSD like you might find in an ultrabook, very tiny and not in a case of its own, so at first glance it looks like part of the motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast computer, very little "bloatware", huge bang for your buck at $899, has Windows 7 (didnt want anything to do with Win 8), fans are incredibly quiet, nice video card, multiple memory card readers,

Cons: OS was installed on the HDD, not the SSD. WHY! Nice work on screwing that up Dell. Not the end of the world, just annoying to have to reinstall before anything else gets loaded on.

Other Thoughts: Nice job Newegg. 3-day free shipping was here in 2 days! Thank you for the great service, as usual.

4 out of 5 eggsWicked Fast, Lazy Install

Pros: Wicked fast and awesome bang for the buck.

Cons: It comes with the OS installed on the standard HD, really? That's the first thing I have to do when I get a new computer is re-install the OS on the SSD? That's your user experience? This is why Apple is winning.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT VALUE!

Pros: EXTREMELY fast . . .
Very quiet . . .
All parts appeared to be brand new . . .
Professionall packaged . . .
Incredible video card . . .

Cons: Still looking for one.

Other Thoughts: I was amazed when the box containing this beautiful "refurbished" Dell computer arrived at my front door. When I excitedly ripped into the box, I was pleasantly surprised to see all parts appear to be brand new. It easily passes as a new computer, and the specs live up to promises made. This beautiful computer is FAST, and extremely quiet. I will use this computer for video production and music production. I am still loading some huge software programs, but having already done a couple of projects in Photoshop, I see a big difference in increased speed and image quality. Check out one of the sample videos that comes pre-loaded for a good idea of the video card quality - it's mind-numbing. Although I've lived with my new multi-media partner only a few days, I am VERY satisfied with my purchase, and although I've done some business with Newegg many years ago, I will definitely use them again. Finally, don't let the word 'refurbished' steer you away from making the deal of a lifetime. I can't speak for other companies, but Newegg's techs are magicians in making refurbished look and perform like brand new.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value!!

Pros: Windows 7
Great Value
Awesome Hard drive (250G ssd works great)
Very Fast - Great Ram and Intel i7 combo
Better than advertised features
Looks great

Cons: Only cons are if you are an Extreme Gamer:
460w Power - many gaming machines have 700w, but 460 should be sufficient for most gamers
i7 Processor - Very fast on this, but many expensive gaming machines have over-clocked processors, this isn't but should be more than sufficient for most gamers. Not sure about ability to overclock after market.. do more research if you want do this, but seriously, this processor is already great.

Other Thoughts: Manufacter doesn't advertise enough of the features on this, hard to make informed decision, I'm going to try to help:
Agree 100% with ChemMan; I'll add that Windows index is out of 7.9, not 10, so ratings he listed better than one might think.
Windows 7: Win8 is a trip, hv on my wife's HP; its slightly faster, but too much change too fast, I dont want a frecking smart phone on my PC when I sit down to get work done, and there is no start bar in desktop mode (Ahhh, whhyyy!!). Win7 is Great, if want to upgrade later, Microsoft is desperate for everyone to adapt, so its rediculously cheap...
Ram: 16G installed on 4 slots, 32G max capacity (not every D8500 has 32 max.. good to know).
Optical Drive: Blue Ray (okay.. Does it just play BR?) Has playback & R/RW for BR, Dvd, & CD, so every possible option (awesome). Leaves one additional free drive port on front (I guess you can add a toaster oven..)
Has the standard Memory card readers
USB: 6 USB2, 4 USB3
Audio: Has quality 5.1 HD surround sound already installed in bottom slot
Graphics Card: Awesome, google a pic of it; does take up 2 slots though
PCIe: Top two taken by Graphics card, very bottom by audio, one available in middle
HDMI: 2 - one standard & one on Graphics Card (which also has DVI)
Hard Drive: 2T HDD + 250G SSD Hard drive... 250G SSD?!!.. Google how expensive it would be to add to another machine after market. Was deciding factor for me, works great.
"LE": LE in Model discription means "Limited Edition" (..make a decision)
Refurbished: I've looked and looked and I can't find a scratch anywhere on or in this. I opened it up to look inside once received & I could eat off it! This Pc is so cheap, just get a one year warranty, if a part is defective, 95% of time it will malfunction before year one is over.
Dell: Many PCs w/ similar specs are dedicated gaming machines from custom pc makers. Dell is consitently reliable. Almost bought a gaming pc b/c they look so cool like a Transformer hiding as a pc. XPS is not exotic but very clean.. sexy for a Dell.
There will be probably 50-70 windows updates, so don't panic is it freezes after installing all that. Win updates always mess with pc performance, pc will run super clean after: it restarts after installs, finishes tasks associated w/ finalizing updates when boots back, then restart again.
This computer runs clean, I bought for Heavy graphic design/media work and occasional gaming - Perfect fit.
Value - good luck finding a better one, seriously, just try.
Shipping - 3day will sometimes be 2day; make sure someone is at delivery address.. Trust me. (If UPS & hv trouble with My Choice & need assistence, go to the live chat, only way to talk to a person)
Very satisfied with my purchase, Awesome PC!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No nonsense design, bluetooth, wireless internet, good graphics card and very fast Intel processor. Very fast shipping from Newegg.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Even though this Computer was refurbished I received it in "Like New Condition". Everything was in shrink wrap including the mouse and keyboard, it also included the warranty and support information and safety documentation, operating system install disk and a DVI to VGA Converter. The wireless internet adapter worked flawlessly and has good signal strength. The internal bluetooth adapter is also handy, I can upload photos and videos from my phone to the PC; I can even dial my phone from my PC. The Intel i7 3770 processor is quoted at 3.4 Ghz but it will speed up as needed to 3.9 Ghz. This PC is not loaded with a lot of "Bloatware" that is installed on other PCs that I have bought in the past. The operating system is installed on the 2TB hard drive and the boot record is installed on the solid state hard drive and it will finish booting in about 15 seconds. The windows experience index is:
Processor: 7.7
Memory: 7.7
Graphics: 7.5
Gaming Graphics: 7.5
Hard Drive: 5.9
I ordered this PC from Newegg on a Sunday night and received it on Tuesday at Noon. I am very Satisfied with my purchase. Newegg is my new computer store.
