5 out of 5 eggsAlienware gets a bad rep for no reason

Pros: -Extremely compact
-Attractive design
-Amazing as a HTPC
-Built-in wifi
-Cpu/gpu is upgradable
-Free mouse & keyboard
-Color customization
-Low power consumption
-1tb hdd
-1 year warranty

Cons: -Requires a decent amount of $$$ and knowledge to successfully upgrade it (to be the gaming powerhouse people "expect" it to be).
-You can build a much more powerful PC yourself for the same price.

Other Thoughts: Alright, let me break it down for you...
You COULD spend a couple of hundred dollars less buying similar parts and building your own PC... Duh.

What you DON'T get with building your own PC is-
1. Small compact chasis/design. There are NO cases on the market that compare to the X51 case in this area. Bitfenix/EVGA make awesome micro cases, but are still double the size
2. One year warranty on the full PC. Have a problem with ANY component, call Dell (BIG benefit over doing your own build)
3. You DON'T have to BUILD it. No stress, no dealing with cable management, no driver downloads/compatibility issues... no worries

Anyone expecting the (lower end) X51 to be a gaming powerhouse, you are going to be disappointed. It just does not have the power to max every game out. That being said, it is still a competent gaming machine. Your games are going to run/look better than X-Box 360 & PS3, games are going to be half the price as the consoles (Thank you Steam sales!), and you can always upgrade the GPU AND CPU in the future if you choose.

All this being said, I do have a full fledged high end custom gaming PC that I built myself. The X51 is my secondary machine, that is hooked up to my 60" Panasonic plasma. My advice to potential X51 owners is to think about your use case. Do you want the most horsepower for your money? Build a PC yourself. Do you want a already built, attractive, slim, under warranty PC that still will play any game... just not as good...?
Go with the X51

1 out of 5 eggsBuild your won

Pros: it looks pretty cool with the unique alien ware markings and mouse.
bragging rights that you have one

Cons: i have built my own for 750$ and also bought a $50 headset and 70$ keyboard and mouse and it stil overall costs around $900 and over performs by around 20% please just save your money go to nevegg's youtube and watch their videos to build your own you will feel more accomplished and you can always upgrade in the future

1 out of 5 eggs240 watt Power Supply?

Pros: None

Cons: Darn near a Grand for a "GAMING" PC with a fairly #$%@ graphics card and a 240 watt power supply. Good luck upgrading this thing. Dell needs to either sell Alienware back to the people who made it a household name or just take it out back and shoot it.

Other Thoughts: What is it with Dell taking fairly decent computers and ruining them with wimpy power supplies. 240 watts is pathetic. The most I have seen in a Dell computer is 300 watts. Dell needs to step up its game.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent box, but not "boutique" quality.

Pros: Very good performance.

Cons: Much larger than photos would lead one to believe
Huge power brick
Full of useless software and background processes

Other Thoughts: This product is getting three stars because it is loaded with annoyware. Otherwise it's a decent machine for the money. I feel like I paid extra for the smaller form factor and the alienware name, but it's still large, about the size of a small desktop case and it has a cumbersome power supply. Performance is good, yet the overall quality of the product seems very midrange. Alienware is supposed to be the kind of brand you drool over but wasn't drooling when I saw this thing. It's just an average PC in a not-so-much smaller case that you'll have to spend time removing unwanted software from.
