4 out of 5 eggsEverything is good except the keyboard

Pros: The tower is great, runs fast, and great quality

Cons: The keyboard is a problem. First, the backspace button starts to jam. Then the "enter" button starts to become unresponsive unless I hit it with some force. Don't know if this applies of the products or this is a stroke of bad luck.

4 out of 5 eggsProcessor Upgrade Test

Pros: I have tested the system and it does accept and work with a processor upgrade to an AMD A8-3870K 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU). A casual user may easily wait a year or two for prices to drop before upgrading.

I added 4GB of memory for a total of 8GB and it works just fine. G.Skill F3-10600CL9S-4GBNT, (1x4GB) DDR3-1333 PC3-10600, Timings: 9-9-9-24-33, 1.5 volts.

Passmark CPUBenchmark score of 3600. The AMD A8-3870 APU can achieve a score of 4734. The lower score shows this HP P6-2100 system does not fully utilize an AMD A8 APU.

Cons: The BIOS is disabled, allowing no changes to the processor or memory voltages or timings. This means the memory may only be upgraded with DDR3-1333 memory. The bios will not recognize faster memory frequencies.

Other Thoughts: A separate video card can be added to the PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot. Apparently the AMD APU's have "AMD Radeon Dual Graphics" that "combines two powerful AMD Radeon graphics processors to dramatically boost graphics and gaming performance. Get the power of two when you add a qualifying AMD Radeon discrete graphics card for the most extreme visual and gaming performance."

If desired, The operating system can easily be placed on an SSD drive to allow the included 1TB hard drive to be used entirely for file storage (minus the HP_RECOVERY partition, of course). Use a separate computer to image the system and copy that image onto an SSD drive. MS Windows Backup and Restore can be used for this or a third party application such as Acronis.

Download APU drivers from the AMD website. Google search "site:support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx".

This is my third review for this system and I am now done testing it.

3 out of 5 eggsCaution with upgrades

Pros: A physical upgrade of the memory is possible by adding a single 4GB memory module of the same 1333MHz frequency.

Cons: The bios does NOT recognize memory frequencies faster than 1333MHz. I added two Mushkin 996988 (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 but the bios and system does not recognize the 1600MHz, the memory remains at 1333MHz. The bios does not allow manual changes for the CPU or memory. I expected the bios to automatically recognize the faster frequency of the memory from 1333MHz to 1600MHz but it did not. This is disappointing.

Other Thoughts: I am disappointed by the bios limitations. This was unexpected. The CPU can probably be physically upgraded to a higher model since the motherboard will support it and I do not expect the bios limitations to interfere with a CPU upgrade since no bios modifications would need to be manually made.

Google search for "Pegatron 2ACF Mainboard Specs".
A video card can be added but this defeats the intended purpose of the AMD A series APU's being a combination of a processor and a graphics processor (CPU and GPU combined).

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Starter PC

Pros: - Very easy out-of-box setup experience
- Runs very fast and smooth - no performance issues yet
- Huge amount of storage space; just enough memory to let you run your programs with no issues.
- Great starter PC for the home

Cons: No issues yet. The 4/5 is because the keyboard/mouse combination feels cheap.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value for a casual user

Pros: Medium sized case with micro-atx motherboard, responsive, silent, sturdy, seemingly built well. This has a well designed combination of parts. Memory can be upgraded to Max 8GB (2 x 4GB) supporting DDR3 1866/1600/1333 MHz. CPU upgradability supports socket FM1: AMD A8-3850, A8-3800, A6-3650, A6-3600, A4-3420, A4-3400, E2-3200 (Max 100 watts). Buy now and upgrade to a stronger CPU in 2-3 years when the A6 and A8's are cheaper.

Cons: PSU has extra SATA connectors and MB has 6 SATA ports, yet the case does not have a bracket to hold a second hard drive. There is room inside the case for a second hard drive but you would have to build your own brackets. With 6 SATA ports and only 1 HDD, they could have used one of those SATA ports for an eSATA connection on the back panel.

Other Thoughts: Windows Experience Index: [6.4, (4GB 5.9) (8GB 7.2), 5.8, 6.4, 5.9].
Motherboard Pegatron 2ACF. 300W PSU. Power Usage: 40-60W idle, 98W Max. HDD Model: Hitachi HDS721010CLA632. Passmark CPUBenchmark score of 1765. Video supports DirectX 11.

Configuration: First, create an Admin account with Administrator priviledges. Second, create a Home or User account with limited priviledges. Third, create a custom power plan and set Processor Power Management - Minimum Processor State from 100% to 10%. This will allow low power usage when idle.

I bought elsewhere and did not realize NewEgg sold refurbished computers.
