5 out of 5 eggsSilent Ubuntu box

Pros: Super easy to setup with Ubuntu, pretty much click and play. 8 gig mem stick and 128g ssd makes it run most stuff with ease (bogs down a bit with some heavy cad and image processing stuff I have... which was expected).

Love the silence, this would make a great AV/TV box, I'll probably get another.

Cons: None, everything worked as expected.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend, needs a Displayport or HDMI converter if using with a VGA monitor (no VGA port).

5 out of 5 eggsAdd 8 MB, an SSD and STAND BACK!

Pros: This little PC rocks. This is my second. I sent my first to a friend who needed a pick-me-up. Lots of medical issues with him and his wife.

I add a single 8GB RAM stick. Put a 240 in this one (for me) and run windows on it. It screams fast for basic stuff (e.g. MS Office, SQL Server). USB 3.0 and a separate 2.0 bus, RJ45 and Wifi, HDMI, it doesn't get better for the price. Could not be easier to add a drive and memory.

Cons: Even though it's the second one, it was a pain to set up. Installation instructions are brief, on line help limited, but I got through it. I need to learn the BIOS standards/approach. If you can work through my BIOS setup issues I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this system to anyone. If you can't, find a geek friend who can and get it anyway. You only need to tweak the BIOS once.

5 out of 5 eggsGood and cheap

Pros: Inexpensive, works well, low power

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: Bought a couple of these to use as linux servers for some light automated web scraping. Got 4 gigs of GSkill RAM and Mushkin SSDs for each and installed Ubuntu Server 14.04.3. Don't have any issues, but I'm only using the wired network, usb ports, and video. Installed OS from flashdrive, but had a few issues at first. Don't use unetbootin to create your bootable flashdrive. On this machine it discovers the flashdrive before the SSD and assigns the flashdrive to SDA and the SSD to SDB. The install goes fine until GRUB tries to install; it will only install to SDA1. So I created another bootable flashdrive with mintStick (called "USB Image Writer" inside Mint). This installed fine. Note: somebody below said you have to change the boot type from UEFI to Legacy for Linux/Grub. I did with unetbootin, but not with mintStick. I'm using the default UEFI Windows 8 option.

5 out of 5 eggsSuch a fun little computer

Pros: Stupid easy to assemble
Cheap
Quiet
Low power
Plenty of USB (plus USB 3.0)
Responsive with an SSD
Includes VESA mount

Cons: None for what this is...a simple net browsing machine , HTPC , etc.....

Other Thoughts: I had this put together with a 120GB SSD , 4GB stick of DDR3 1333 SODIMM , Linux Mint 17.3 (x64) in 30 minutes +/-.
Person wanted it for a media / browsing computer.
WoW...I'm now jealous.

1 out of 5 eggs75% failure rate - really BAD firmware makes this a russian roulette purchase

Pros: Small form factor
Built-in wif-fi
No shortage of ports, including eSATA and SD reader
IR receiver
fanless + external power supply = silent
price ($99 shell shocker)

Cons: Worst UEFI implementation EVER.
If you get one that won't boot from a flash drive, you won't be able to upgrade the firmware to fix the problem!
Zotac makes the RMA process difficult and their rep's aren't very responsive and will leave you hanging.

Other Thoughts: I purchased 4 of these to use as small form factor HTPCs and had a 75% failure rate. The problem is with the firmware, which is complete and total garbage. On two of them, no matter what settings I tried - UEFI or Legacy, they would not boot from a flash drive, making OS installation impossible. I'm quite proficient at troubleshooting; I tried different flash drives, different OS images, different USB ports on the zbox, even used the internal reset button to clear CMOS. Two of these are just plain non-functional. On the third one, I played with it and tweaked it and finally got it to boot from the flash drive. Got the OS installed and all software configured, and ON THE DAY that I delivered it to my customer - it would not boot up! Thanks for making me look like an amateur, Zotac! Nor would it boot from any sort of rescue/tool thumb drive.

It will be a long, long time before I buy another Zotac product. If Zotac ever replaces these things, I'll be selling them without even opening them.

Manufacturer Response:

"Hi Donald,

It is unfortunate that you are experiencing issues with your CA320NANO. Quality and customer experience is very important to us.

Please try clearing the CMOS, then flash the BIOS with an updated version - http://www.zotac.com/support/download.html.

If you are in need of further assistance or would like to RMA your units, please contact our support team by calling 1-877-596-6822 9:00am – 6:00pm PST Mon – Fri or emailing support.us@zotac.com.

ZOTAC"

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed

Pros: Small, compact, and able to output a clear/vivid picture to a 70 inch TV. Fan less is nice. Wired and wireless networking is great as well. All this in a small package that can be placed anywhere.

Cons: Non but read my other thoughts. If using Ubuntu on this, push sound through the mini-SPDIF connector to an optical audio cable.

Other Thoughts: Its celeron so get other items to speed things up. I used a 500GB HDD and 2GB of RAM. It performs slow on data transfers from a USB 3.0 drive while playing a video on youtube at 1080P at full screen. I think this configuration would still be acceptable but for use in small server deployment using Ubuntu. Spend the extra money and get 8GB and an SSD. I can t say that this is really a con though just food for thought. Also even though its fan less keep your ambient temp low as the heat slows things down. A small desk fan from a local general store solves that. I already use one to keep my sound system cool to ensure functionality when used for an extended period. No matter what anyone says, fan less is cute until things get hot for one reason or another.

5 out of 5 eggsotac ZBOX CI320 nano Desktop Computer - Intel Celeron N2930 1.83 GHz - Mini PC

Pros: This little guy is amazing. I added 1 G.SKILL 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1333, a 1 TB 2.5 drive I had laying around updated the bios. I installed Windows 10 preview and installed the drivers from the Zotac site and everything went great.
I love this computer. It is fast and smooth as silk. I am not into games so I can't comment on that, but it does all I require and is almost invisible in my office.

Cons: BIOS update was a little interesting to update.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this computer to anyone who does not need a gaming computer and is tired of all the fan noise. It is a joy to use.

Best money I have spent on computing in a long time! I just hope it has a long life.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Small
Fanless
Inexpensive
N2930 is very power efficient

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: I bought this to throw in a closet with a couple of HDHomeruns as a TV/Media server or Whole-Home DVR or whatever you want to call it. and it works like a charm (thanks to ServerWMC/Emby/Kodi). seems to do a fine job of transcoding live HDTV. is there a better value processor than the N2930?

4 out of 5 eggsInstall OS from thumb drive

Pros: Small, inexpensive. Works great with 4GB ram and cheap Mushkin 60GB ssd.

Cons: Could not get it to work with usb cd-rom drive installing windows 7 from disc. Spent 3 hours trying to figure out. I'm really not a fan of American Megatrends BIOS'.

Other Thoughts: Put your windows install onto a bootable usb to install it.
It's not going to knock your socks off, but for a casual browsing pc in your living room, you can't beat the $ and the size.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly good

Pros: Lives in my living room, on 24/7, and you'd never notice. Would have been mounted on the monitor back, but this monitor is being mounted on an arm.

Cons: I like Logitech wireless peripherals and their unifying receiver. There's a somewhat sneaky gotcha here: the USB ports are VERY close to the wifi/bluetooth antenna. I had issues with very, very slow networks...even using a powerline network...when the logitech receiver was plugged directly into the back USB port. Solution? Use a USB extender cable. Problem fixed.

Other Thoughts: 8 Gb RAM, 120 Gb SSD, and 32 Gb microSD for things like my music library. Running Ubuntu 15.04.

For web work, light coding, and some apps (Gnome's spreadsheet mostly) it's fine. It's not an enthusiast box, or a gaming box; it's closer to a convenience box...but given the total price, that's entirely feasible to do. This is definitely MUCH better than the older Atom-based boxes like the EEE Box; that was intolerably slow doing anything. With this box, ok, complex web pages won't load instantly, but how much of that is really the page's fault, with all the junk they throw on so often? I really could not be any happier.
