  • newegg USB3.0 Super Speed The new USB 3.0 is capable of providing a bandwidth of about 5Gbps or around 10 times the bandwidth of the current USB2.0. USB 3.0 is capable of transferring 2.1GB to a 2.5-inch HDD in 31 seconds, compared to the 1 minutes and 9 seconds of USB 2.0 in the exact same conditions. This allows for faster transfers of high definition data, such as movies and videos, as well as various other large capacity file formats. It also charges USB-chargable devices with 900mA, faster than the 500mA of current USB 2.0. Finally, the USB 3.0 helps to extend battery life, suspending operations when it 70% is in idle mode.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PC!

Pros: -More powerful then the P4 Socket 478
-Nvidia Ion 2
-DDR3 1333Mhz
-It's Quiet!!
-Stays cool
-it's an Asus!!

Cons: -No wired USB keyboard and mouse
-Comes with Wireless keyboard and mouse

Other Thoughts: WOW this thing is powerful and comes with W7 64bit OS. Asus makes it real easy to upgrade the HHD to SSD which I did. I also upgraded the 2GB to 4GB ram. I use camtasia, play FF XI hours on end! Copy CD/DVDs no issues at all. I put a heavy load on this thing and it handles every thing I throw at it with ease! the Remote is nice with iTunes, Window media center, and windows Media player, it works with games too. I have yet to see my RAM go above 2GB of use. This is a Great Cheap PC! worth every $$$

2 out of 5 eggsWill not play HD video

Pros: very quiet, compact, good quality product overall. remote control can power up and shut down the unit, nice compact keyboard and mouse.

Cons: I purchased this unit to play hd flash videos from internet on my lcd tv, but ion graphics will not play anything close to hd. I even bougth extra 2gb of ram, but it didn't improve it. only when I decreased resolution from 1080 to 900 it was somewhat better, but still very bad. Not to mention bd or dvd was also skipping and bad quality.

Other Thoughts: I called newegg customer service, and complaint on bad advertising of the unit and because I'm a long time customer they made an exception and give me RMA and issue a store credit. Now I'm buying laptop with 1gb dedicated graphics and IR remote, and for 150 more I got all I wanted and much more.

4 out of 5 eggsNice basic system

Pros: Quiet system, little mallware, compact

Cons: Memory was 1 simm, not 2 as indicated. I was upgrading to 4G anyway as I had it laying around. So the performance is much better with both slots active. Ripping CD's from the DVD drive is a chore. I usually have error correction turned on and get like 10x speeds from other computers. With this one 2-4, not great.

Other Thoughts: System is nice for email and net stuff. I would consider 4G (2Gx2) memory for any real activity.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: 1 - QUIET! This was one of the primary reasons I bought this device
2 - x64. This can run 64-bit OS
3 - VESA mount. This mounted directly to the back of my monitor (aka poor man's iMac) and was pain-free to do
4 - Wireless. Built in wireless-n.

Cons: Only one - It came with mouse, keyboard, and remote. I would have preferred a discounted box so I could save some money since all I did was toss them in my "might someday use" pile.

Other Thoughts: This was bought to be a quiet system with as small of footprint as possible. It sits out of sight and hearing. I have it running Server 2008 R2 as a DC/DHCP/DNS... I know, not a typical "I can see moveez!" but it works brilliantly for what I wanted and consumes nearly no power.

4 out of 5 eggsWas great until

Pros: Set up was easy , responsive for such a low power CPU did everything well , keyboard , mouse and remote worked very well , well built as well . A great package , portable easy to move from room to room or take out on a trip , HDMI connection makes connections to TV or monitor simple and wireless KB mouse are small easy to travel with , be good for laptop as well.

Cons: DVD drive jammed during test run ! Had to send it back .

Other Thoughts: A great little computer , fast enough for everything but encoding converting video .
Lots of the included installed software is useless , wish they would not include anti virus (TREND ) , have to uninstall and install what I LIKE TO USE , or give the option to install it , that way I don't have to uninstall and look for leftover bits for complete uninstall
Newegg made RMA as painless as could be .

4 out of 5 eggsNice - with drawbacks

Pros: Compact, well built, pleasing - small size, decent price.

Cons: Doesn't play full screen streaming videos very well. It has very choppy playback streaming online media, flash videos and such. A major drawback for a HTPC unit essentially built to play back streaming video.

Other Thoughts: Can't knock off too many stars, its a decent HTPC, but there are better choices.

3 out of 5 eggsTerrible for home theater

Pros: SFF, quiet, specs look great on paper. Easy to setup and get running. Comes with wireless kb, mouse & remote. Very low power consumption.

Cons: Quoted from Asus's website "Full HD Home Entertainment Center in a Box" is why I bought this machine. Try loading up youtube HD, hulu, revision3, anything that is flash video based and you will quickly find that if it even comes close to HD quality it is unwatchable. All HD quality flash video stutters and skips and is out of sync.

I wanted this machine to be able to play hulu & streaming video instead of using cable and its completely useless for this task.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a HTPC, look elsewhere. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR A HTPC. I can't stress this enough. As powerful as this machine might seem it will not play hd flash video. I can't believe Asus can get away with marketing this thing as a HTPC solution...

I gave this machine 3 eggs because it really is decent however Asus's deceptive marketing knocks it down. It looks like NewEgg's return policy is useless for me since they will not refund PC purchases. I now have a nice brick in my entertainment center that doesn't do what I want. Great way for me to waste 5 big ones, thanks Asus...

4 out of 5 eggsDesktop Netbook Plus

Pros: Very small (8x8), Quiet, Optical Media Writer, SD reader, USB3, wireless kbd and mouse, Wifi, etc. read specs, I haven't used all the features.

Cons: First one was DOA but I believe it was because the OS was improperly loaded. Got an RMA from ASUS as Newegg was out of the units. RMA handled properly and new machine seems to be running fine.
There is a lot of bloatware which may be useful for someone using this as a media machine. For my purposes of web, email, light MS Office, etc. the software is unnecessary.

Other Thoughts: Little documentation but the machine is pretty standard stuff, i.e. Windows 7, USB, Wifi, etc. I did have to assume that the D: drive was actually a partition on the internal drive which I had to format. Its for use by user files. Thus they won't get destroyed if you have to use the factory-restore process (see below). I didn't need to do anything special to enable the Wifi to use my secured LAN. But I've used ipconfig /all before to get MAC addresses for use by the LAN.
I believe the concept of a partition which can be used to restore the machine to factory-ship status - seems like a good idea. I just hope I never have to use it.
After install of MS Office 2007 and some user files I backed up the hard drive and system image via Windows Backup and made a system recovery disc.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small form factor.
Lots of USB ports

Cons: Trying to put Ubuntu/XBMC on this, the IR receiver doesn't work OOB with Linux like the previous models. Still working on fixing that. For windows it would be alright though.

Comes with a lot of ASUS bloat in the default Windows install. Best bet would be to find a Windows 7 Home Premium disk and reinstall to nuke the bloat.

Other Thoughts: Its a good device, ASUS doesn't have much documentation on the hardware, it would make getting Linux to work much easier.
