1 out of 5 eggsBad Brand

Pros: none

Cons: Failed after 4 months and ASUS wouldn't fix it. Seriously, they wouldn't even provide an explanation. Nothing was wrong, the thing just started crashing. the customer support couldn't provide me any information. I paid $40 to ship to them because they said it would be fixed under warranty. However, then ended up just sending it back to me unfixed. I tried and tried to get an explanation and could get one. Wasted $400 on computer and $40 on shipping. Crazy what companies can get away with. I wish there was something I could do.

2 out of 5 eggsIssues

Pros: low price

Cons: - Windows 8 runs much slower on this machine that windows 7
- Couldn't get a blue ray player to install. Tried internal, external, and many brands. Wouldn't playback without errors.
- finally the machine froze up and just stopped working. Couldn't get it to reboot.

4 out of 5 eggsIt takes a lickin and keeps on tickin

Pros: PRICE and POWER
I've been in the PC game for, well, longer than anyone would like to admit. With what I've seen, including LCD's dropped from waist high and surviving, I'd have to guess UPS dropped the box from about 10 feet or so in order to bend in the front quarter of the bottom panel a good 3/4 inch. If I tried to do that myself, I'd have to take a few whacks full force with a hammer directly to the tower's bottom.
Luckily, ASUS used a mini mother board and one drive, so, nothing near the point of impact to break.
Despite that, it booted and has been streaming video for 2 days now at about 6% CPU usage. Getting hard to stress test computers using standard apps and usage..
I guess that's a testimonial.
It was unintentional, but by eliminating any parts within damage distance of the bottom, ASUS created a "crumple zone" using the tower to protect the components.

Cons: Packaging not up to UPS handling.
Should be an option to double box for a fee, though, I'm sure UPS's ham handed handlers could defeat any packaging.
Keyboards are grey lettering on black, can't hardly read, so, buy you're own.

Other Thoughts: I had previously gotten an 8 core Asus tower PC, which I've tested ripping DVD's, and still only hit 15 - 30-% CPU. Which is why I tried another, and I would again, not too many reputatble low cost players left.

4 out of 5 eggsBudget Workstation

Pros: Sturdy case
Power expected based on specs
Price with rebate/shellshocker was great, allowed us to add a $400 workstation to a small business network to run an electronic health record.
Computer was easy to set up, no problems from this unit yet. Had difficulties with a similar product that came with Windows 7.

Cons: As another reviewer mentioned, the plastic cover over the power button comes loose very easily. I did not experience this on this unit, but did on another unit with an identical case. In our case, the plastic housing for the power button broke entirely. I just pulled the cover off and electrical-taped the button to the outside of the case. A little ghetto, but not serving warranty for a $.30 part. The power button itself has worked flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: Fits our role. I needed to add a basic workstation to an existing network for a small business. It doesn't need a lot of muscle, so the i3 w/ 4GB RAM is plenty for our purposes. This machine was in the sweet spot for performance vs price.

2 out of 5 eggsCan't get blu ray player to work in it.

Pros: pros

Cons: cons

Other Thoughts: Have tried everything. Its an LG blue ray. Won't work. The Cyberlink program won't play. Must be some low level issue with ether motherboard drivers or OS. I pass all standard criteria for playing Blu Rays.

2 out of 5 eggsCheapo Power Button Spoils System

Pros: Seems to be well assembled.

Cons: My biggest issue is that the power switch is a thin piece of plastic that bends to touch an LED switch held in place by thin plastic. After a week, the unit would not turn on. I had to "break" the warranty seal to get to the switch. After some work, I was able to get it to hold temporarily in place and work. I usually build my own systems, but the rebate and shell shocker deal made this too good to pass up.

I don't expect the repair it to hold long. And, after moving 70GB of data from an old computer, I'm not sending it back for a $0.03 plastic piece. When it breaks again, I'll drill out a hole in the front cover and just hang the switch out the hole.

Oh, and Windows 8 is a real pain to work around.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure what would possess someone to make such a cheap power switch for an otherwise well put together system.
