2 out of 5 eggsBad GPU fan

Pros: Good for everyday productivity tasks. Okay for light gaming.

Cons: Cheap components, zero upgrades can be made, outdated components make it difficult to replace faulty parts.

Other Thoughts: This was a fine quick solution when I was in a pinch. Out of the box, the GPU fan was loud, like a car without a muffler.

The bad fan is quiet sometimes, a gently and uneven rumble, but over the year I've owned it it's gotten unbearably loud.

Performance is moderately affected; GPU temp has never been steady. In the last 3 weeks though, right around my 11th month of ownership, then GPU fan has started to die.

The fan now stops intermittently - the silence that follows is sweet relief, but it often causes the computer to restart, and the GPU then doesn't have a cooling device. I recently had to open my case to manually turn the fan so it would get started again, before my card dies for good.

This bad card is a pain for many reasons, and it's not possible to replace the card with one that can be used for gaming (this computer is advertised as being a gaming computer) - the components are too old, out of date. So I need to throw away this computer because the GPU was bad right out of the box. And that's a shame, the rest of the computer is working fine, I would otherwise use it for another year at least.

Beware these retail boxes, they are a gamble. There are other options out there.

2 out of 5 eggsAlmost bought this at one time

Pros: It has good specs

Cons: Don't fall victim to these retail computers, they have nice specs but use the cheapest quality components possible to maximize profit, just look at the photos of the interior.They give you an aesthetically pleasing case on the outside and completely cheap out on the inside. Watch a few Newegg videos and build your own high quality machine for the same amount of money or less that actually has expansion options and will last you years!

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Slow and Freezes with AutoCAD

Pros: Great computer if you are not going to use it for anything that requires memory.

Cons: I bought this computer to run one program, AutoCAD. It runs everything great except AutoCAD. This computer exceeds the minimums of the software requirements. My lap top with and i5 and a 1GB video card runs AutoCAD just as well as this computer. The best advice I received when I called in was for me to buy more RAM after spending almost a grand on a new computer. This is the third ASUS computer I have bought is the past 6 months... you would think that would account for something... but I guess it doesn't.... And this one will be the last one I buy...

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great gaming PC. Everything runs smoothly and it allows you to run multiple games. The system can get warm which may have been the issue with my first graphics card. They repaired everything for free which was nice, but left me without a computer for a week.

I would recommend this if nothing went wrong with it.

Cons: Graphics card went bad after 3 months or so of moderate to heavy use. Im happy it at least happened under warranty. Asus gave me a hard time about who would pay shipping back to the manufacturer. After I spoke with a few different people and complained a bit about a new computers graphics card going bad in three months, they sent a shipping label. Got it back in a week with a new graphics card.

Other Thoughts: 3 stars because of the bad graphics card, but overall a good PC. Not sure if I would buy another Asus product after receiving this and two monitors with stuck pixels. In my mind the name Asus offers better quality, but I have yet to see it in my experience.

8 months later and it runs like new.

4 out of 5 eggs2nd one purchased

Pros: 1) Price;
2) i7 processor, but note that it is not the K version;
3) Graphics card, but again, not the fastest version;
4) Windows 8 comes installed, but will need to upgrade to Windows 8.1;
5) Runs very quiet and cool.

Cons: 1) Somewhat cheap case, especially on inside;
2) Only room for 1 or (maybe) 2 additional HDDs;
3) No eSata or Firewire connections to Motherboard;
4) Purple ("Upgrade to Windows 8.1") sticker on case is really hard to remove;
5) Rebate takes 8 weeks to come, and only if all of the requirements are followed *exactly* as stated.

Other Thoughts: As the title indicates, this is the 2nd one I purchased. I got this one for my son, who games frequently, after having very good results with the first one. I'm not sure why others have had different (i.e., bad) experiences with their machines. ? maybe QC issues; I really don't know. Neither of the machines I got, separated by 6 months, had any issues related to freezing or to the HDMI connector. I also don't understand the comment about "bloatware", as there really isn't anything other than a couple of ASUS items and the usual Windows 8.1 apps and features.
Note that I also am running VMware (free version) on one of the machines without issues. Finally, the price is only about 4-5% higher than it was during the Thanksgiving ("Black Friday") sales.
In summary, I have built many mid-range - high-end machines; I would consider this one to be mid-range+. There is no way that I could build one with the same quality parts for less.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely disappointing

Pros: Very little, relative to the cost. It looks ok. It often times functions about as well as you'd hope a $1,000 DESKTOP would function.

Cons: Pretty much everything. Performance is shockingly low for a desktop of this price. I have this thing crash when running dated games. It freezes frequently. It comes so bloated with Windows 8 junk that it barely has any storage. I really regret buying this machine.

Other Thoughts: Last time I buy from Asus.

1 out of 5 eggsI wouldn't

Pros: I wouldn't know

Cons: DOA, graphics don't work

Other Thoughts: I really wanted this computer. It's unfortunate that ASUS still has this computer available with so many defective machines out there. Like others, no graphics.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWARNING - DO NOT BUY THIS

Pros: Does game well, WHEN IT WORKS...

Cons: I don't write reviews, but I'm writing this to warn anyone who see's the 4 star review like I did.

I have now had 3 of the same computer within the last 2 weeks, all had the same exact defect. I'm using the 8GB model.

I have called Asus and Newegg and they couldn't do much but say to return it.

How much time do I have to spend returning/exchanging a computer that is $1,000 and suppose to work? Not acceptable.

PLEASE don't make the same mistake I made and look at the 4 star review, Newegg received a batch of absolutely lemons.

The problem is that only ONE of all the ports work on the computer, the one HDMI cable connected right to the graphics card.

This isn't some troll post, this is a legit.

Literally they have sent me 3 computers with the same problem.

Not to mention when I bought the ASUS screen the first time, it had a dead pixel in it....

I wish someone from the companies would make this right and do a recall of some sort, or at least take it off the website.

Goodluck everyone on finding the right gaming PC for you, this is one to stay away from.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Is First Quality!

Pros: Stable Product with a long run history of great hardware.

NVIDIA GRAPHICS are upper end playing WOT at Max settings.

i7 Intel are super fast.

1TB Harddrive

Great Package!

Cons: No real Cons.

Other Thoughts: Another front access slot would be nice. But its not one of those things you don't see before you buy. I'm a fan of stand alone sound cards with front mounted controls, but now there are desktop units that take the place of front mounts... so no biggie.

Been a ASUS customer for near 25 years and only use their motherboards in all my PC builds (11) and always great customer service and great hardware, never had one die and only one that was damaged in shipping that they replaced really quick.

I started to build a new computer and looked over PC's and seen this one had pretty much what I would have built, so I'm very happy having it come ready to use. I updated to Windows 8.1 as soon as I got it using the free update.
