1 out of 5 eggsLook into this before buying.

Pros: Runs great when you have an internet connection.

Cons: If you have an internet connect you cannot rely on or if you wish to use offline apps then this is NOT for you. Google tells me offline apps should work and they don't most of the time. One Google rep said to bring my setup to Starbucks..lol...I thought offline apps meant offline. Plenty of People who bought a Chromebox or Chromebook seem to complain about this issue too....look into it. I wanted to put Linux on it but both Asus & Chromebox says it is not supported....keep getting conflicting information....Not happy...I should add that this is not a Newegg issue. I wish I looked into this more before buying.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressive

Pros: Fast and dependable. Minimal virus concerns.

Cons: Limited capabilities. Takes some effort to learn a different system, but not too difficult.

Other Thoughts: For general computer use like web surfing and typing documents & spreadsheets, this is great. For gamers and those dependent on downloaded programs this isn't what you need.

1 out of 5 eggsUnderpowered

Pros: Box is a a nice small size.

Cons: This chromebox is under-powered. There is lag opening a browser window/chrome! Web pages load slow. I have it right next to my PC and things take a lot longer on the chromebox.

The security settings are lacking. I tried to setup a user for my son, but since Chrome extensions that I install as admin do not run as other users ad block and such do not function.

no DVI output.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent CPU/GPU, better than the Atom Celerons
Pretty good wifi and bt
Ram, case, PSU and boot drive included.
Solid HTPC base

Cons: The PSU is a hulky, popout-plug type unit thing that plugs directly into the wall. I'd have preferred a laptop style PSU with IEC pigtail.

Other Thoughts: This is about the best all in one openelec box you can buy at the price. Easy install, high WAF and everything runs fast and smooth. My RasPi's are going out to greener pastures, like monitoring temperature and taking time-lapse nature photos.

If you experience some tearing in openelec try fiddling with the video synch settings. I can't recommend settings because they were different on the four displays I tested, but the results were all the same.

5 out of 5 eggsdarn nice

Pros: very small box very low power consumption
fast boot up and Chrome OS is very tight and clean
came with 1 2gig memory stick and 1 empty slot so
$21.99 and I now have 4 gig memory
very little lag if any ever
and the price for a box you can do any thing you need to do

Cons: not realy a con because I knew it going in but looks like can can not play dvd, s even with ext usb dvd drive because of licensing conflicts
and to my knowledge Google will not allow the installation of third party programs allowing for licensed content play back

Other Thoughts: but for my family we watch netflix and every now and then rent a show threw youtube and for us this box on my 42" tv is a fantastic media system
with the Corsair 2.1 sound system movies sound grate

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It works as supposed.

Cons: It kept changing the display size after I had set it in the chrome computer, I ended up changing it on the TV.

4 out of 5 eggsBeats the competition

Pros: Build quality is better than the similarly spec'd HP version.

Cons: It's a little bigger/chunkier than the HP version.
Printing in ChromeOS can be painful if you don't have a PC to setup Cloud Print with your old printer.

Other Thoughts: I bought the HP brand Chromebox first and got burnt by HP's poor quality control (it died in 2 hours). After the RMA I bought this ASUS brand Chromebox and wish I spent the extra $10 in the first place.

It costs a little more but it will actually work.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Dev Machine

Pros: It's fast, focused and is perfect as an internet-only device or for web application developer. I'm a node.js developer and use c9.io on this device for all my development. It works flawlessly. Especially with the 16gb RAM upgrade I gave it.

Cons: I wish the location of the sd card port and usb ports was revamped. This device would be best with power port located in a different place given the sd port location.

Other Thoughts: I got this with the 21.5" LED Monitor combo and logitech keyboard/mouse wireless combo. LED is awesome. HDMI to HDMI. I use Bluetooth 4.0 wireless headphones (MEElectronics) and am acquiring a bluetooth speaker bar for use without headphones (for movies because its good for that, too). Given how much I loved this device, I intend to purchase the Samsung Chromebook 2 13" for developing on the go and when i head to the office.

5 out of 5 eggsBest bang for the buck Chromebox!

Pros: Small size, easily mounts to back of monitor, silent operation, Haswell Celeron dual core processor, Ethernet/WiFi/Bluetooth, four USB 3.0 ports, boots up in 5 seconds - shuts down in 1 second, ease of upgrading memory & SSD. An extra 100 GB of Google Drive space for two years (with your current free 15 GB of disk space brings the total to 115 GB).

Cons: Power button has a mushy feel. Mouse sensitivity settings could be improved. Impossible to find the Asus Chromebox wireless keyboard & mouse unless you spend > $200 more on the i3 model. I use Dashlane password manager, but it does not support ChromeOS (not the fault of this Asus Chromebox). I have to export my password list to an Excel spreadsheet, open it in a Chrome tab then copy/paste my user ID's & passwords. Dumb, but it works.

Other Thoughts: I couldn't be more happier with this little Chromebox except for the lack of Dashlane support (come on Dashlane, make a ChromeOS version)! It's lightning fast and gets the job done. School yourself first to make sure this is right for you. If you spend most of your time in a web browser then this is perfect! I'm using an iclever bluetooth keyboard, HP X7500 bluetooth mouse, Creative D80 bluetooth speaker, & Asus VS247H-P monitor via HDMI. I also have a Synology NAS to store files so I don't even need to use the USB ports, but it is nice that they are there to attach an external hard drive or thumb drive if needed.

I added an extra stick of RAM to double the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB for just under twenty dollars. That gives me a little more breathing room. You can go up to 8 GB if you want/need to open more than 20 tabs. The Celeron CPU is good enough for 1080p streaming, but will not do 4K. If that's what you're in to then go for the core i3 model. The 16 GB SSD seems really small, but really you don't need anything larger. This is not running a bloated Windows OS! And it's not too difficult to add a larger SSD if you want.

If you love constantly updating drivers, dealing with registry errors, running antivirus software, persistent crashes & blue screens of death, always looking forward to Patch Tuesday, having to re-install Windows on a yearly basis because it runs too slow, then this Chromebox is not for you! But if you're sick & tired like me of dealing with all that nonsense, then switch to this Chromebox. You won't be sorry!

3 out of 5 eggsUSB ports went out

Pros: Awesome little desktop computer. Great for surfing the web and online music streaming. Fast start up and quick shut down.

Cons: USB ports went out after a month.

Other Thoughts: If the USB ports didn't go out, I would of gave this a 5 start.
