5 out of 5 eggsGreat PC for the price

Pros: Small Form factor, Nice & quiet, Athlon 3.0GHz CPU, 8GB Ram, 1 TB HDD(instead of 750gb), Win7 Pro 64 Bit, no cost for shipping and arrived in 1 day

Cons: No windows disk with this computer

Other Thoughts: Fast computer for the price, runs EQ1 & 2 without a problem with stock 4200 graphics chip, will upgrade to a video card to give the system more support, no problem on setup with windows, replaced a windows XP computer I built 7 years ago

4 out of 5 eggsGood PC for this price

Pros: Fast CPU,
large HDD,
plenty of USB ports,
small tower,
quiet,
came with Windows 7 CD,
good customer support

Cons: Cheap and flimsy mouse and keyboard,
limited capacity for future upgrades,
limited graphics card,

Other Thoughts: This is a decent quality desktop for someone looking for an actual work rig: word processing, data sorting and analysis, presentations, etc. It is not a gaming rig, nor is it especially well suited for media consumption.

The hard drive failed about a month after I bought it. I called the company (Joy Systems not Newegg) and they shipped me a new hard drive immediately. I had to put it in myself, but that was no big deal for me. If you aren't comfortable taking the cover off of your tower, this might not be the PC for you.

5 out of 5 eggsPleased

Pros: Context: I require high quality technology for my job. I may not use advanced technical terminology in my reviews, but I speak from the perspective of someone who does a lot of heavy-duty data analysis and computing using remote software applications.

I bought *this* computer somewhat impulsively, very late at night, after I started a new data analysis project and immediately realized my laptop was totally incapable of handling my processing demands (not enough RAM and not a fast enough processor to make use of the virtual software I need).

So, please excuse me if some of these "pros" sound obvious; they include things I didn't notice in the ad when I bought the computer but were present surprises when it arrived. .

General: Easy set-up, no problems, everything worked out of the box. Prompt shipping and arrival.

Specific:
1. *Great processing capabilities**
**A note on this in Con #1
I have tested it with the data analyses that crashed my laptop. They run extremely fast even using remote desktop applications. I expanded the analyses to include (needlessly) massively complex and lengthy computations and have yet to run into a problem or even a delay. I am impressed and very pleased.

2. It came with a keyboard and a mouse (wired)

3. It has pretty decent speakers

Cons: 1. It does not have a wireless card

This was not clear to me when I bought this. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd known but now I am glad I bought this computer anyways.

I was concerned when I realized the computer did not have a wireless card because my office is not near a wired connection.

I solved this problem by purchasing (for about $50) a Belkin AC Wi-Fi USB adapter and it soothed all my concerns. The computer is running like a charm now. I had no problems installing the wireless adapter and afterwards, I was able to quickly download and install several updates, programs, and software packages without problem. After that, I ran the analyses described in "Pros" in order to test the practical capabilities of the computer and all was fine.

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this computer, although there were a few surprises involved. I would buy something similar again and recommend this product to friends and family who have similar computer needs.

4 out of 5 eggsHDD ISSUE RESOLVED

Pros: While my HDD did fail, my issue with my win7 product code was MY error. Thanks to the fine customer service by Joy Systems (Chris) my issue has been resolved and I am a very satisfied customer.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsHDD Warning

Pros: System works very well except HDD toasted after 45 or so days

Cons: HDD replacement.

Other Thoughts: HDD failed, it refurbished so no real complaint. However, after I installed a new drive the system product label for win7 pro would not allow Microsoft'x authorization (too many uses). Vendor has not or will not send me a usable product code. System is useless unless I buy another win7 product code. Shady at best.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal

Pros: Great computer; perfect for office work. pretty speedy. Mine looked like new. Mine had a 900 gb hard drive.

Cons: Louder hardrive; Don't expect it to last. Likely will replace with a SSD sooner or later. Graphics arn't the best.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat workhorse PC

Pros: Price, Memory, Performance, Windows PRO

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: We've bought 6 of these in the past few weeks/months and are very pleased with the hardware and software. It is a great bargain to get good machines with windows Pro to boot at this price. This could be en even stronger contender with if you add an SSD and GPU (may need another power supply based on GPU).

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad, but condition could be better

Pros: Solid HP build, small form factor for those who need it, 8GB of RAM, parts are easily found. Case is well put together.

Cons: Some are fairly banged up from being off-lease

Other Thoughts: I bought ten (10) of these for a dentist office, so I got a solid impression of what is being shipped out. These machines come with a generic keyboard and mouse. No big deal, I know its refurbished (and who wants a used keyboard and mouse?). The systems are well packed, some PCs had some dimples/dents in them from who knows what (????) and others arrived in good shape. One machine completely had its frame bent, I almost returned it but decided to un-bend it and its fine (one of those things, time vs. money)

Machines come with W7 Pro 64 bit which is great, no restore CDs with mine, just a restore partition. Ethernet IS in fact Gigabit. Drivers that come preloaded are generic Windows ones, so download updated drivers (and BIOS) when you get a chance.

I took the 3.0Ghz chips out of these and upgraded them to Athlon X2 280's, a 3.6Ghz chip. Remember the AMDs are always 15-20% slower than comparable Intel chips, so a 3.6Ghz AMD is comparable to a 3.0Ghz Intel. Machines run a bit faster now, although the 3.0Ghz would be fine for most.

8GB of RAM is a nice plus, although most would be find with 4GB. Hard drives ranged from 750-1TB in size. All HDs are reused and varied in manufacturer (remember these are refurbs). Should suit most users without issue, and you can always add a SSD to really speed things up.

All Windows installations activated without issue, I had a few (four of the ten) that said "This copy of Windows is not genuine" after I entered the key, but upon Activating online it fixed itself. It's not a big deal folks, just have some patience :-)

If you need a small form factor this is a nice machine, I would also check out the HPs with the Intel E8400 processor that Newegg is offering too, those are solid machines but have less RAM (and DDR2 Ram is getting pricey, so watch yourself). As I said, don't expect a brand-new looking machine with these being refurbs, expect some potential dings and scratches. If that bothers you, buy new or return until you get a decent one.

So far all ten PCs have worked just fine, HP makes a solid machine and I don't expect any issues. One of the ten had to have its RAM re-seated before it would boot up; all others booted up without any issue out of the box. If you are having issues, CHECK ALL CONNECTORS AND COMPONENTS... :-)

Parts are readily available (power supplies, motherboards, etc) online via other suppliers so I'll be in good shape moving forward.

Overall, good machine for the price, but don't expect new.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Utility Computer

Pros: Cost, ram, HDD, small size, Win 7 Pro 64bit (cost $150 - $109 upgrade from MS)

Cons: Size, no HDMI (can add cheap video card), no wireless (can add cheap 2R2T 802.1n card from monopricedotcom), noisy HDD. No gigbit ethernet.

Other Thoughts: Great computer for price. Add graphics card for HDMI and wireless card or dongle and you're set..

I use it with a tv tuner for a home theater application.

It functions as a DVR, DVD player, and streaming device for internet places like netflix or youtube.

:-)
