3 out of 5 eggsGood stuff, wrong PC

Pros: Good PC.
Good OS (Windows 7 64)
Value for $$ is high

Cons: Sent the Intel version not the AMD...

Other Thoughts: Got this is a PC for my 16 yr old, upgrade from his older PC. Its great for what he does (in fact I have to help him install DOS BOX so he can play older games w/o issues). The only issue I had was that Newegg sent me the Intel version of this and not the AMD...I know its a Ford/Chevy kind of issue, but it was aggravating to me mainly because I didn't notice this when he opened it. So...I work midnights and he was doing just fine until last weekend when he needed some help getting a game to run. When I looked at the properties I seen Intel for the its a little late to do a return as he already has all his stuff on there and is established.

I spoke with Newegg via the chat support, aside from some minor issues with communications (I worked with plenty of foreign grad students in college...I can handle broken English)...everything went well. I wanted a credit of what the price difference would have been ($20) and they made it happen. I'll use that to buy a cheap graphics card which will more than make up for the intel/amd screw up.

Overall I'm happy with the PC and my son is thrilled.

4 out of 5 eggsGood value, no problems

Pros: This computer comes pretty "clean" with no shovel-ware (stuff that companies pay to put on a computer and either just takes up disk space and or slows down the performance).

Basically, plug this computer in (power AND RJ-45..or else get a wireless card or USB dongle), and it's simple to configure: create the first account and type in the MS 25-character key for the OS (Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit).

If you have an ethernet (RJ-45) connection, the computer will quickly download and install the OS updates. At the same time, you can download MS Security Essentials and other anti-malware (I use the free version of Malwarebytes.).

The disk is "unpolluted" by cr*p-ware, so there is no need to uninstall unwanted stuff. This gives you access to a large majority of the disk, which is closer to 140 GB than the claimed 160 GB. Anyway, after installing all updates, Chrome, MS Security Essentials, and Malwarebytes, there was about 125 GB free.

There are a *LOT* of USB ports on the front and on the back so you might never need a USB port replicator...

My unit came with a keyboard and optical mouse (both wired), and both worked fine and did not appear to be refurbished nor used.

Finally, I don't know if this was accidental, or a free gift from the wholesaler, but my shipping box also contained a memory cardreader which you can attach to a USB port. I did not try this add-on.

Cons: This is a refurb so some cosmetic blemishes are to be expected. My system, which will be used to surf the web, won't "show" these blemishes as it will be hidden to the side of the desk. One minor irritant is that the face bezel came with cellophane tape in an unsuccessful attempt to keep the 4th corner on.

Other Thoughts: The system comes with IE 8, so you'll want to either upgrade IE or install another web browser (e.g., Chrome or FireFox).

You'll want either an ethernet cord or a wireless card or wireless USB adapter to get to the internet and get the OS updates.

The internals of the case appear to be clean (no dust, no scratches).
