5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Please see my above review named "Solid Desktop" for more information.

Pros:

1. Runs most games extremely well. Runs FF14 ARR over 100 FPS most of the time. Runs Farcry III at 40-75 FPS at max graphics. Runs Metro Last Light reasonably well at high graphics settings (I turn a few things off, but close to max settings).

2. The video card is the MSI Twin Frozr III version of the HD 7950. This is arguably one of the best 7950 versions in my opinion. A link to the video card on Newegg is here - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127667

Cons: I have noticed a few cons in the last month or so that I have owned the desktop.

1. Windows 8 (and even 8.1) sucks. It is less stable than Windows 7 and seems to be a massive pain in the backside. Windows 8.1 is better than Windows 8 and with a decent start menu replacement program (e.g. Startisback), it works reasonably well. However, Windows 7 is a better OS choice IMO.

2. The 1600 MHz Ram is only 1333 MHz in my rig. This means very little since ram speeds are not very important, but for some people the fact that the ram is mislabeled might be a major issue.

3. The drivers in the installation CD caused a "Critical Process Died" blue screen of death error. I had to do a clean reinstall of the Windows 8 OS and got the same error the moment I used the Motherboards drivers. Luckily, the latest driver versions on Gigabyte's webpage seem to have resolved the issue. But dealing with clean installing the OS was a pain, especially since I was unable to install Windows 8 till I changed the BIOS from UEFI/Legacy to Legacy only mode. Basically, I spent a good 8+ hours just troubleshooting and fixing the system.

Other Thoughts: Overall I think this desktop is great. I did have some hiccups along the way, but other than for the RAM issue, I cannot place the blame with Avatar. The driver issue likely had something to do with Gigabyte and Microsoft. However, since installing Windows 8.1 and updating all my Motherboard drivers from the Gigabyte website, the computer has been running smoothly.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Desktop

Pros: 1. Fast
2. 8.1 Windows Experience Rating for everything other than hard drive (5.9 for hard drive)
3. Quiet for a non-liquid cooling rig
4. Decent value for money (purchased at 1,169 dollars)
5. Runs all games well

Cons: 1. No liquid cooling
2. No Solid state hard drive (I plan on getting one for it in the next 2-3 months)
3. Windows 8

Other Thoughts: I often build my own PCs, but as I am getting older, I find I lack the time to do the required research (parts/compatibility/etc). I considered buying a custom built computer, but this rig has most of the stats I wanted and will only need a few minor tweaks. Runs all games/programs extremely well and is a solid choice.

I will update post once I have used the computer for longer.
