2 out of 5 eggsspotty QC

Pros: These older Dells laptops are built like tanks-
Already had two at the non profit I am supporting, so wanted to stay 'in family' for batteries and chargers-

Cons: Poor quality control out the door - - i bought two at the same time, so could compare them-
Machine 1 - fan ran a lot more - opened it up, big dust bunnies in the fan cage - plus excessive track pad wear-
Machine had noticeably noiser hard drive- scary almost

Machine 2 - Windows install did not find wifi card. add hardware did not find wifi card. I replaced with a known good wifi card - still not detectable

Other Thoughts: Putting in a USB wifi was easier than dealing with an RMA.
I was replacing the drives with SSD's anyway -

But it could have been

4 out of 5 eggsNice machine

Pros: This is a nice solid machine that's mostly used for streaming internet radio. It took a while to get used to Windows 7 (it replaced an old XP computer); I'm a Mac user primarily. The computer runs well and is reasonably fast, considering it's age.

Cons: The optical drive doesn't seem to work at all. It doesn't recognize recordable media. This is not a big deal for me and it's probably an offshoot of it being refurbished. I haven't made any attempt to get a replacement drive.

Other Thoughts: For the price, a solid deal.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a Core 2 Duo

Pros: Small form factor, good price.

Cons: Not a Core 2 Duo as it is advertised. Wouldn't have purchased this item had I known this.

Other Thoughts: Everyone's complaining about how it's 6 years old and scratched up. It's refurbished. Pentium D/Core 2 Duo is 6 year old technology and clearly these computers were in corporate use. Sure, neither of those are desirable qualities, but you get what you pay for.

3 out of 5 eggsspecs listed wrong

Pros: Good value for money

Cons: Main CPU fan pretty loud, CPU listed as Core2 Duo is actually a PentiumD

Other Thoughts: Would be a 5 star review if the listed specs were correct

5 out of 5 eggsGood machine, well done refurb

Pros: Bought this for an unsophisticated cash-strapped home user to replace a failing dinosaur. Arrived promptly in pristine condition. W7 activation went without issue (always a concern). No crapware or extraneous junk was installed. Performance was surprisingly good given the rather pedestrian specs. Small hard drive is kind of a drag, but is fine for the intended user's purposes (essentially an "Internet appliance".)

Cons: None really. Hard drive is small by today's standards, but I knew that going in.

1 out of 5 eggsBig junk.

Pros: Newegg CS understood my rave and issued full refund.

Cons: I would never in my life agree to pay a single cent for a 6 year old bit up corporate heavily used desktop.
Reselling 3rd party products is an attempt to make a few extra bucks, but oh boy I got mad when I opened desktop's cover and saw production dates.
Trust me, add a bit more and get an entry level new PC.

4 out of 5 eggsGot a new disk

Pros: Well designed small form factor

Cons: Had to replace the hard disk

Other Thoughts: About a week after I complained to newegg about the disk failing on this computer they gave me the contact info for the place that refurbs computers for them. i contacted that supplier and he agreed to replace the disk which I got in the mail today.
As I result I'm giving a much better rating to newegg, the supplier and this deal. Just be aware that you have to clear the bios password if you want to make any changes on the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for what it does

Pros: Does the light tasks that it needs to quickly without much difficulty

Cons: -Slow at times even while browsing the internet but that's to be expected with only 2GB of RAM
-Wouldn't use this as an everyday computer or home computer if that's what you're looking for

Other Thoughts: Arrived fine and in good condition. Setup was standard and quick. This computer is used as a workstation at a truck rental company and all it needs to do is use IE to look up and set up rental contracts. It does what it needs to efficiently for about a year now with no problems.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for a novice - DO NOT BUY

Pros: A well made compact form factor

Cons: This is a refurbished machine that arrived with a hard disk that failed in about an hour. I installed a spare disk i had on hand after jumping through a lot of hoops to reset the bios passwordand got the machine going.
The keyboard was DOA also

Other Thoughts: I asked Newegg if they would replace the disk but they said the entire computer had to be returned. Returning a 20+ pound computer makes no sense when the confirmed bad part weighs a pound, the shipping costs would exceed the cost of the part.

I have worked in IS for over 3o years, it's obvious that no care was taken with the preparation of this computer. That is not Newegg's fault but their refusal to be flexible is surpassed only by their not vetting a suppliers quality control. No matter what the fault, the seller bears responsibility
