4 out of 5 eggsperformance is great!! but....

Pros: Generally bought this computer for gaming, I was not going to wait months of savings to buy a gaming PC, and not play games at all. So I decided to buy this cheap PC while I save for a nicer one! I am running League Of Legends at 30+ FPS, low settings, it never drops under 30 and at most it reaches 70. Great performance for the price!!

Cons: The hard drive is making a horrible loud noise, not sure who to contact to this about. Since the day I opened the PC, and started it up, it has been making this noice.

5 out of 5 eggsMY NEW COMPUTER

Pros: TERRIFIC UNIT FROM THE START. I WILL RECOMENDED IT TO ANY ONE. THE BEST UNIT FOR THAT PRICE, FAST AND RELIABLE.

Cons: NO CONS WHATSOEVER. NOTHING AGAINTS IT, EVERY THING IS GOOD.

4 out of 5 eggsAs advertised & expected

Pros: Significantly smaller than the old Athlon K7 desktop machine it was bought to replace, and significantly faster as well.

Cons: Heavier than expected. Was received with a NEMA 6-15 power cord (250 volt) vice a 5-15 (125 volt), but as I had several spares this was not an issue. Chintzy, but functional, mouse and keyboard.

Other Thoughts: Will serve as a replacement for an old Compaq SR1365 my 80-year old mother has been using for web browsing and e-mail. 1 Gb hard drive is massive overkill for her requirements, so I may clone the volume and swap for a 100 or 200 GB.

5 out of 5 eggsupdate on earlier review

Pros: Updating earlier review. This little PC is still chugging along fine after almost 4 months. I'm updating because I noticed that Newegg and US Micro have more of these units for sale.
If you need a cheap, SFF, but with still enough power for most common activities (HTPC for instance) - go for it. US Micro has good customer service. For what they are, these units work well.

Cons: none really - see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: rebate? haven't received it yet, but still have hope I will.
I strongly recommend immediately imaging your system. I use Macrium Reflect free - excellent backup/imaging software. You can also test the HDD with HDD Scan or other similar. If it passes, as mine did, you should be in good shape for a while at least, but imaging and backing-up your system is critical to avoiding data loss.
These units are quite flexible. For instance there are USB headers and up to four HDD SATA headers (one is for eSATA) on the main board. Also old serial and printer port headers. It's a good combination of legacy and newer technology. Uninstall any 'battery' drivers that Windows tries to install. One possible reason that some of these systems boot to a recovery screen is because they come with a hidden recovery partition on the HDD. You should be able to change the boot order (away from the recovery partition) in the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsCame with only 2GB ram, they sent me 2x2GB more

Pros: Noticeable more powerful for web-browsing than my Athlon 64 X2 4400+ machine. Can upgrade to a Core 2 Quad cpu someday. Computer was shipped quickly, as was the missing ram. I ran the short SMART test, and the drive seems good.

Cons: There is a little popcorn noise occasionally with the Hitachi Ultrastar hard drive, not enough to bother me, but some might not like it.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, good support

Pros: Appears near new. Very fast. Came with correct memory and HD. Did not come with disk. I have built almost all of my machines and this is faster than my most recent 4core 3.6 AMD with 16 gigs of ram and an SSD. Pleasantly surprised to say the least. Well done USmicro and Newegg.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I may never buy new or build my own again if I can get refurbs like this.

3 out of 5 eggsGood computer but with flaws

Pros: - 3.0Ghz chipset
- 4Gb RAM
- Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
- Good price

Cons: - Windows 7 Pro laptop version??
- Mixed RAM sticks
- Noisy HD
- Cheap Keyboard/mouse

Other Thoughts: Pros: The price was cheap for a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system. The 3.0Ghz chipset is pretty fast for most standard uses, the 4Gb RAM is fine for most uses.

Out of the box, I opened up the CPU and was pleasantly surprised to see how clean it was. Not a spec of dust, etc. I would have thought it was new if it wasn't an old machine. US Micro gets points for that.

Cons: On boot up there were some strange problems. It keeps booting to a recovery screen. I suspect the reason is there are 4 slots for RAM, but the 4Gb RAM were loaded as three sticks, 2x1Gb and 1x2Gb. It is HP & Crucial RAM so it looks fine and tested out as good but the unbalance is a problem. I would have thought a firm as large as US Micro wouldn't let a CPU out of it's facility set up like this. It is a very common RAM stick DDR2 pc-6400 so I'm sure they had 2 1Gb sticks available. So I have ordered another 2Gb RAM @ $22. to balance this out and hopefully be rid of the recovery screen everytime I boot the system.

The second problem is when I open windows it immediately goes to a CMD screen looking for something. I'm not sure if it is related to the next problem (battinfo) or it is searching for the network address. Then after a 30 second wait the CMD screen closes and a Battinfo screen opens which has to be manually closed. My impression is the Windows 7 O/S installed was for a laptop and it is looking for battery levels. I was able to take the battinfo out of the administrator start menu but the non admin logins still get the battinfo window. I have to figure out how to fix this more annoying than troublesome problem. Hopefully that will stop the CMD screen issue as well.

The 1 TB HD is actually too large for my needs which is OK, but it is noisy. The noise itself isn't bothersome but I feel the HD may be dying and I will lose all my data plus the windows 7 O/S. Have to find some workable back up solutions.

Lastly, it came with a DVD-ROM. So I bought a DVD-RW burner from Newegg on sale for $13.00 which is cheap and easy to pop in. I expected to replace the DVD player when I bought the system so this wasn't an unexpected expense.

So overall if this machine lasts a couple of years it will be worth the expense. I took off 1 star for the mismatched RAM, and the expense of having to buy more RAM. and 1 star for the booting/Windows O/S problems. Did no one boot up the system before they shipped it out?

Overall it is a clean, good looking, no dents or scratches, machine and seems to run fast once booted and online. For general online activities it will be worth the investment and the added DVD-RW player.
