5 out of 5 eggsFast, good support

Pros: Appears near new. Very fast. Came with correct memory and HD. Did not come with disk. I have built almost all of my machines and this is faster than my most recent 4core 3.6 AMD with 16 gigs of ram and an SSD. Pleasantly surprised to say the least. Well done USmicro and Newegg.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I may never buy new or build my own again if I can get refurbs like this.

3 out of 5 eggsGood computer but with flaws

Pros: - 3.0Ghz chipset
- 4Gb RAM
- Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
- Good price

Cons: - Windows 7 Pro laptop version??
- Mixed RAM sticks
- Noisy HD
- Cheap Keyboard/mouse

Other Thoughts: Pros: The price was cheap for a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system. The 3.0Ghz chipset is pretty fast for most standard uses, the 4Gb RAM is fine for most uses.

Out of the box, I opened up the CPU and was pleasantly surprised to see how clean it was. Not a spec of dust, etc. I would have thought it was new if it wasn't an old machine. US Micro gets points for that.

Cons: On boot up there were some strange problems. It keeps booting to a recovery screen. I suspect the reason is there are 4 slots for RAM, but the 4Gb RAM were loaded as three sticks, 2x1Gb and 1x2Gb. It is HP & Crucial RAM so it looks fine and tested out as good but the unbalance is a problem. I would have thought a firm as large as US Micro wouldn't let a CPU out of it's facility set up like this. It is a very common RAM stick DDR2 pc-6400 so I'm sure they had 2 1Gb sticks available. So I have ordered another 2Gb RAM @ $22. to balance this out and hopefully be rid of the recovery screen everytime I boot the system.

The second problem is when I open windows it immediately goes to a CMD screen looking for something. I'm not sure if it is related to the next problem (battinfo) or it is searching for the network address. Then after a 30 second wait the CMD screen closes and a Battinfo screen opens which has to be manually closed. My impression is the Windows 7 O/S installed was for a laptop and it is looking for battery levels. I was able to take the battinfo out of the administrator start menu but the non admin logins still get the battinfo window. I have to figure out how to fix this more annoying than troublesome problem. Hopefully that will stop the CMD screen issue as well.

The 1 TB HD is actually too large for my needs which is OK, but it is noisy. The noise itself isn't bothersome but I feel the HD may be dying and I will lose all my data plus the windows 7 O/S. Have to find some workable back up solutions.

Lastly, it came with a DVD-ROM. So I bought a DVD-RW burner from Newegg on sale for $13.00 which is cheap and easy to pop in. I expected to replace the DVD player when I bought the system so this wasn't an unexpected expense.

So overall if this machine lasts a couple of years it will be worth the expense. I took off 1 star for the mismatched RAM, and the expense of having to buy more RAM. and 1 star for the booting/Windows O/S problems. Did no one boot up the system before they shipped it out?

Overall it is a clean, good looking, no dents or scratches, machine and seems to run fast once booted and online. For general online activities it will be worth the investment and the added DVD-RW player.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat service-good unit

Pros: it's an old refurb desktop on sale cheap. I've wanted a quiet Small Form Factor PC for use as an HTPC and this fit the bill. I started it up, entered the product key (from sticker on side), and Windows finished installing itself. The OS then activated itself without issue, It is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit as advertised. I then ran HDD Scan on the hard drive and it passed all tests. I then went ahead and upgraded it with a cheap ATI graphics card for better display properties. The PC boots up every time and runs our TV display fine. It's very quiet like a good HTPC should be. I'm very satisfied.

Cons: see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: Eventually I opened System Properties to check stuff out and noticed that it only had 2 Gigs of RAM instead of the 4 Gigs advertised. I opened the case and looked - sure enough two 1 gig sticks instead of two 2 gig sticks. I emailed both US Micro and NewEgg. Both responded that they'd take care of it. US Micro shipped out two 2 gig sticks of RAM to me.

"To keep things simple. I’ll have 2x2GB sticks sent out. You would just replace the 2x1GB sticks.
Richard
US Micro Corp"

I installed them and they work. GREAT SERVICE!! These people rock as does Newegg. Of course when one buys a used PC, there's a certain level of risk, but I recommend this unit and US Micro.

5 out of 5 eggsA Bargain

Pros: Windows 7 64 bit pro
1 Terrabyte HDD
$99 with rebate
How can you go wrong?

Cons: Came with two gigs of RAM, not the four that was advertised.

Other Thoughts: The refurbisher sent the missing RAM immediately. They actually sent three gigs so I am running with five as it turns out. The motherboard is rated for 16 gigs and has four slots. There is room to add in a SSD where the floppy drive is supposed to go. There are empty SATA ports.

When I set up the unit Windows found 85 updates. After installing Windows wanted to restart the machine. On restarting network connectivity was lost. Rolling back drivers didn't work. Newest driver from the HP website didn't work. Disabling the adaptor and restarting caused windows to reinstall the adaptor which solved the problem.

The machine is plenty fast enough for Internet surfing and office work. It could make a decent home theater box with a low profile HDMI video card. I have not used the bundled keyboard or mouse or even unpacked them. This is my best bargain of 2015 so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: This is a great deal, just when my old computer's MB died. Windows 7 Pro needs to be activated for those who think they got a unauthenticated OS. Read the instructions next time. Just enter "activate windows" in the run box, start program, activate online, and enter the product code from the side of the computer. It comes with a burner program, even though it has no burner. Not allot of blote ware. I added a x14 Blue-Ray burner for $45, from my old computer, 4 more gigs of memory, and a 2 terabyte HD, and an Alpha WiFi dongle to crack and skim WiFi. It has VM capability in the bio setup, so I run VMware and for bruting with Reaver. Runs two monitors with a display port to DVI converter. Internal speaker is fair to good. The case is quite modular with no tool mounting. Great for surfing, movies with VLC, and torrenting. All for $99.98. ;)

Cons: None really, wish it had USB 3.0. I tried PCI cards before and only got a 30 transfer rate, 10 better than USB 2.0. The CPU is not the best for converting video formats to disc images, very slow, but that was expected for the older CPU model. For the 775 socket, the CPU is not going to get much better.

4 out of 5 eggsNice PC

Pros: Takes full-size optical drive, has space for 2nd HDD, easy
to access/install above, Gb Ethernet, SFF, 3GHz Core 2
duo processor.

Cons: So far, only con in sight is power supply is not ATX standard, but not a problem as long as it works. This is
a typical situation for SFF boxes.

Other Thoughts: I am still thinking about why I should buy another. This is a
really nice little box for most users.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value on a fast, cheap PC

Pros: lots speed, ram, and storage for a low price. Windows7 DVD was included (but not needed as it was pre-installed on the PC). Western Digital 1TB drive. Works well as a HTPC.

Cons: A few scratches on the case, but what do you expect for a refurb. The hardware all worked, and that's what I care about.

Other Thoughts: Booted up perfectly with Windows 7 pre-installed. I had to enter the product key twice (once on startup, and then a second time after Windows 7 was running. I was a little nervous after it booted up and warned me that I might have a counterfeit product key. But when I entered the key again, it was genuine.

4 out of 5 eggsFor HPdc7900SFF

Pros: Bought two of these computers. One for my daughter to replace an aging XP machine. I use one for a HTPC. The small size is excellent for this purpose. There is not much room in this case and any pci cards added will have to have the short bracket. Also the power supply is pretty much proprietary. Not many power supplies out there that will fit, so if you install a video card check the wattage required for the card. I bumped the ram up to 6Gs and installed a Nvidia GeForce GT630 video card hooked to a Samsung 55 inch TV. Works great with no hiccups. My daughter using the other one for just average computing and has no problems. The ones I bought had smaller hard drives.

Cons: Proprietary power supply. Very compact.

5 out of 5 eggsGood solid PC for business use

Pros: Great machine for an upgrade to Windows 7. I am upgrading a small business (40 employees) with this computer, and everyone loves it compared to their XP/Pentium systems. It is fast, has plenty of memory, and a huge disk drive. Windows 7 comes preinstalled, and the COA on the box is correct. . The computer is exceptionally quiet. The included mouse is very nice, the keyboard less so. All in all, a great buy.

Cons: The new keyboard is flimsy, and the lettering is just painted on, so some keys are already blank. A lot of people kept their old Compaq full travel keyboards instead of using the new one.

Other Thoughts: For the price, this computer is an excellent value, and a great machine for XP to Windows 7 upgrades.
