4 out of 5 eggsGreat Price, Great Desktop PC

Pros: Great PC for the price. Runs fast, even though only a dual core PC. Plenty of RAM and Hard drive space is ample for the price. Windows 7 Pro License is a plus.

Cons: PC Would not boot up when unboxed - No bootloader installed. Had to download Windows 7 Installation from Digital River and install myself. Not sure what happened here. Power cord was funky (maybe european??), had spare one so was able to get by - would have had to buy one if I didn't!! As other Newegg Users wrote here, this DOES NOT come with a DVD burner - it is DVD-ROM only!! Got this for my father-in-law who's primary use is internet, so this didn't bother me too much, but this is not as ADVERTISED!! Need to fix this!

Other Thoughts: Shipping was fast. Always good from NewEgg. Only disappointments were the items mentioned in CONS - first major problem I've had with NewEgg, and I've been an Egger for 15 years!!

5 out of 5 eggsGood refurb general use desktop

Pros: Small form factor, plenty of useful features and connections. It's fast enough, quiet, has everything I needed in a desktop for office use.

Cons: Mine were a bit scuffed up, that's the luck of the draw for refurbs.

Other Thoughts: Clean inside and out, especially inside. Not a lot of room in the case for expansion (even adding a hard drive). I'm happy it has a parallel port, since I have some old software license dongles that need one. Overall a good, solid desktop for general office use.

4 out of 5 eggsGood PC for the Money

Pros: Works as described.
CPU / Ram / HD all as advertised.

Cons: Outside metal case is VERY beat up / scratched / dented / abused.

Other Thoughts: The PC works great! It has the same specs as advertised. Windows booted up just fine with attached code.

The only reason I dropped it a star:
The outer metal case looks like it's been through a tornado! A couple of the corners look like they were dropped on a concrete floor (smashed flat), and there are some major scratches in the metal sides (Not just scratching the paint, but dented into the metal, about 8" long). I know these machines are used/refurb, but goodness, this is a little over the top!
None of this affects the functionality of the computer so far.

4 out of 5 eggsNo DVD±RW

Pros: Great Price. 8GB + 1TB + E8400 + Win7 Pro 64bit.

Cons: Not as advertised. Specs said "Optical Drive Type DVD±RW", but came with DVD-ROM.

Other Thoughts: 2 serial ports and parallel port for legacy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price!

Pros: Bought this for my daughter for photo work. I did the initial setup to make sure it wasn't DOA. Boot up and entered the WIN7 Pro COA, no problems Plugged in the wireless dongle I ordered with the computer and it was recognized and installed before I could load the included install disk so didn't worry about it. Downloaded all the WIN7 updates and it's running great.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: DVD drive not really an issue. With the price of thumb drives these days who burns DVD's anymore. But a cheap fix if you need one. Has expansion slots if you need to upgrade to a video card. Came with a free printer which was a nice bonus. Daughter has been using it for about a month now with no issues.

4 out of 5 eggsIn response to Neil N

Pros: I looked up "DC7900" on HP's website. The offered CPU's for Dual Core lists the E8400, and not the 6850 (there are no 6xxx series processors listed).

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: This is just a reply, not a review by a current owner. Although I'm ordering a few of these units today.

5 out of 5 eggsRefurb HP dc7900

Pros: Purchased this refurb computer on a NeweggFlash sale. Very pleased with the unit I received. Very clean, inside and out. The 8 Gb of RAM and 1 Tb hard drive are nice extras. The unit I received came with a Win7 Pro refurb keycode which worked and authorized without any problems. Nice, reasonably fast computer in a small form factor desktop case. For the price, this was an excellent buy ! I will replace the DVD-ROM drive in the near future with a DVD-RW unit, but the supplied DVD read only drive is quite adequate until that time. The only other add-on I will consider is a low-profile USB 3.0 card ...... something I add to most of the computers I work with now.

Cons: None as of this date. Unit is functioning perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsBeyond expectations!

Pros: Fast, easy to set up, reasonable price. Fits my rolltop desk.

Cons: No DVD burner, just player. Will replace with one from junked PC.

Other Thoughts: Performs as well as my Dell laptop which cost more than twice as much. Was able to use older scanner and printer by downloading Vista 64-bit drivers.

2 out of 5 eggsNot enough info to decide to buy

Pros: Might be OK.

Cons: When I check wikipedia for "List of core-2-duo," I see there are two that run 3 GHz.

One (E6850) has 4 MB of L2 cache, and its highest instruction set is SSSE3.

The other (E8400) has 6 MB of L2 cache, and its highest instruction set is SSE4.1.

Cache costs a lot of money, and the more you have, the more it speeds things up. It also lets you know how much the computer is worth. But, the specifications provided here don't provide enough information to tell you which processor is in this computer.

Also, the addition of a newer instruction set is like adding gigahertz to a processor. Plus, it can add completely new capabilities to computer, such as its ability to play 1080 video. Again, a newer instruction set makes a computer a lot more valuable.

But they don't provide the information to make the purchasing decision.
