General information

Incredibly compact. Amazingly powerful.

The Intel Compute Stick sets a new stand for stick computing devices, with full computer performance at the dimension of an over-sized thumb drive. It connects to HDMI input of your monitor or TV, and transforms them into a fully-fledged computer. The quad-core Intel Atom processor and 2GB memory deliver the computing power you need for everyday tasks, like streaming online media, social networking, web browsing and light, casual games. The 802.11n wireless LAN enables fast network connection, and the built-in Bluetooth lets you control this stick PC with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. This gadget also features a USB port for use with peripherals, and micro SD slot for additional storage. Furthermore, it is pre-installed with the Windows 10 operating system thus you can stay productive out of the box.

General information

Built for Performance

While the Intel Compute Stick is small in stature, it's what’s inside that makes the biggest difference: the quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F, 2GB DDRL memory and 32GB eMMC flash storage, delivering sufficient performance and capability that allows you to run multiple programs at the same time without slowing down the computer.

General information

Sized for Convenience

It's not like a computer. It is a computer. Same operating system, same high quality graphics, and same wireless connectivity as a full-sized computer. Totally different dimensions.

General information

Ready Out Of the Box

Pop it out of the box. Pop it into your TV. Go. It’s that easy to transform any HDMI* TV or monitor into a computer.

Usage Models

General information

Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the Intel Compute Stick also offers reliability and Plug-and-Play ease of use so you can use it when, where and how you want. The Compute is a versatile solution for home, business, and PC-like embedded applications.

4 out of 5 eggsDeployed over 50 with only minor issues

Pros: - Compact
- Low power consumption
- Well suited to web browsing
- Inexpensive

Cons: - Wireless signal strength is only decent
- Only one USB
- Requires 1A to boot properly (1.5 ideal) - More than most TVs supply
- Limited to 32 GB of internal storage and 2 GB of RAM

Other Thoughts: I used 50-60 of these for a low-cost digital signage solution to loop video, display web content, etc. Out of all of those, we never had a complete device failure. A couple of units in spots with deficient wireless signal would lose connectivity once in a great while. It's a great, inexpensive solution for portable computing or web-enabling a TV when you need Windows.

If you want something small with more USB ports and a wired NIC, Zotac makes a mini PC with the same Z3735F chip and more ports. (I picked one up for ~$140.)

1 out of 5 eggsGo buy a lenovo's ideacentre 300 stick, don't buy this one.

Pros: none

Cons: -can't install update properly
-the CPU speed is changing every second around 1G/Hz, unlike Lenovo's locked at 2.15G/Hz.
-very laggy, if you want to browse the internet you gonna stick with edge, other browsers will freeze.

Other Thoughts: You can see verified purchase and comment on both Lenovo's IdeaCentre 300 stick and this intel compute stick, bought two of them to gift one to my little sister one to my grandmother, its turns out that intel was the first one who make a product like this, but Lenovo's is the best, for performance and it will update properly unlike intel's

1 out of 5 eggsSeemed like a good idea.

Pros: Small, cheap.

Cons: Got 4 of these 3 have died after a couple of months. WiFi and Bluetooth use the same chip so if you use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard WiFi drops constantly or keyboard and mouse get jittery or just quit working. Good idea Intel, bad execution with hardware that is unreliable.

Other Thoughts: Don't waist your money on this.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Idea for many users

Pros: I have purchased several compute sticks for testing and production. I found the WIFI to degrade after an upgrade to Windows 10 but still workable in some situations. I did have to use a wireless USB Adapter on some. Which meant using a USB HUB as well. The performance is reasonable for user who do email, word processing, spreadsheets. I did upgrade two of the Compute Sticks to Windows 10 Pro so I could join them to a Domain. I have tested them in a production environment where 2 to 3 users would be switching logons constantly thru the course of the day - however this may be Windows 10 complement. The users were accessing a local database, word processing, and browser,

Cons: I did have some difficulty upgrading one of the compute sticks to Windows 10. This was after I had installed applications and other things and may have been the problem. The other Compute Sticks I upgraded after the installation and had no problems.

Using with TV works well but you will have to magnify the desktop if you are too far from your set.

Other Thoughts: Added a USB HUB and USB Video card and second monitor worked perfectly.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing execution of a great idea

Pros: Since it doesn't work as expected, none.

Cons: Very slow internet connection.
Failed to complete Windows 10 TH2 update and as a result it now will no longer completely boot up.

Other Thoughts: Intel had a great idea with this product. Unfortunately, its performance was disappointing. I wish I had never bought it.

The problem with the Windows 10 update on this device is well documented online. Even before this update failure which has now made the product unusable, its slow internet connection speed was a serious limitation.
