Ah, the joys of 10 power magnification! Everything is so close and clean and sharp. Too bad your hands are wavering a little and that pesky heartbeat is making the image jump. What to do? You don't want to carry a tripod with you, but this is getting a little distracting.

Image-stabilization, my friend! Similar to the technology that takes the bumps out of your camcorder's images, it helps your binoculars compensate for movement. You get the Canon name, you get generous 30 mm multi-spectral coated lenses for a bright, sharp image, and it weighs only 22 ounces (not counting 2 AA cell batteries). And thanks to adaptive prisms, that 10 power image has never looked steadier!

They're not quite up to Luke Skywalker's electronic binoculars, YET, but they're getting closer all the time. Check these out and see the details you would have seen if you weren't fighting motion-sickness from another pair of binoculars.

  • newegg High Quality Canon Optics The Canon 10 X 30 IS binoculars are equipped with high-quality Canon optics with Super Spectra Multi Coating that reduces lens flare and increases image contrast for extra sharp and clear views.
  • newegg Doublet Field Flattener The built-in Doublet Field-Flattener lens in the eyepiece optics creates a wide field of view and keeps images sharp from edge to edge. Canon's exclusive optical design provides a wide apparent angle of view in the Canon 10 X 30 IS binoculars.
  • newegg Image Stabilizer System with Vari-Angle Prism The Canon 10 X 30 IS features Canon's advanced Image Stabilizer system with the innovative Vari-Angle Prism (VAP). The system utilizes two sensors (vertical and horizontal) to detect motion and a microprocessor to adjust the Vari-Angle Prism accordingly to effectively compensate for the motion, so what you see through the lenses is absolutely steady.
  • newegg Water-proof Construction The Canon 10 X 30 IS is built with a water-proof construction for reliable, all-weather operation and rubber coating for a secure grip, even with wet hands.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I wanted.

Pros: Easy to use, simple to carry, image stabilization feature works great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought these to see an In This Moment concert old man style. Balcony seats, 1st row, left front corner of the stage.
I could see definition that those on the floor could not. Great product.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful!

Pros: The IS (image stabilization) really works. We use these mostly for birding, and can see details and identify birds that was impossible with our Nikon 7x Travelite. Image is bright and clear, and I don't see any color fringing. They feel very well made and are a pleasure to hold. Not too heavy for me or my wife, although they are larger and heavier than the travelight's, they are much more fun, and balance and fit the hand well. Two standard AA batteries last a very long time, and it can use Lithium or rechargeables, but the original alkalines are still going strong after months of regular use.

Cons: The included pouch is not padded, and only has one pocket. It would be nice to have a small pocket for spare batteries (if depleted the glasses still work, just not the image stabilization).

Other Thoughts: The 12 x 36 IS II model is only 1" longer and 1 oz heavier (but costs $200 more), but has a minimum focus distance of 20 vs 14 feet. I probably would have preferred them, but price was a consideration.
