Celestron's SkyMaster Series of large aperture binoculars are a phenomenal value for high performance binoculars ideal for astronomical viewing or for terrestrial (land) use - especially over long distances. Each SkyMaster model features high quality BAK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics for enhanced contrast. Celestron has designed and engineered the larger SkyMaster models to meet the special demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions.

The 15x70 version is one of the most popular models in the series. It offers serious large aperture light gathering in an affordable and reasonably lightweight configuration.

4 out of 5 eggsFor the price you can not argue

Pros: Splendid clarity, 70mm allows for stunning views. Light weight and durable. Free carry bag and a tri pod mount.

Cons: box was opened when I got it. Looks like they may have been used. There is a white nick in the paint or coating right by 1 of the eye pieces. The coating itself has some sort of defect. It has lighter color lines all over 1 side of it. And that is just the cosmetic issues.

25x magnification is near useless. Everything becomes so blurry you can not see a thing. 10x-15x would be ideal for anything under 100mm. Needs a tripod for astronomical viewing.

Other Thoughts: I missed out on a better sale but still 80 bucks shipped they are a good deal. Celestron makes great astronomy and star gazing products. I purchased these for just that. Within moments I had spotted Jupiter and 1 of its moons, The orion nebula, 2 galaxies, and of course the moon in stunning clarity. I am not sure if the defects listed in the cons is from manufacturer or if newegg shipped me a used product. I honestly would not put it past newegg as I have seen countless reviews of returned product opened being sold new these days.

If star gazing and astronomy is what you are buying for, I strongly recommend getting a tripod with an equatorial or ball mount because trying to use these by hand is a pain. My hand is a little shaky and causes everything to wobble. With enough concentration I can lock into 1 spot in the sky long enough to get a clear view for a few seconds.

Over all I am very pleased with these. I hate to take an egg away but considering the condition they came in and how horrible the resolution is when magnification is beyond 50%, I had to.

I would love to see a 100mm version of this set. I am sure the magnification issues would go away. 70mm is just too small for anything over 15x. If you are an aspiring astronomer, star gazer, or just want to zoom in on wildlife and other natural scenes, I strongly recommend these.
