JBL Loft 50 Three-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Pair)

Elegant tower speakers with three 4" (100mm) midrange drivers and dual 6-1/2" (165mm) woofers. For those with a discerning eye for contemporary style and an ear for detailed sound, the JBL® Loft Series is the perfect speaker set.

The series' Loft50 is a pair of tower speakers that we've designed to reproduce your audio with incredible highs and lows. Their dual 6-1/2-inch (165-millimeter), side-firing PolyBass woofers allow each speaker to produce thunderous, floor-rattling bass; the midrange frequencies, where departures from faithful reproduction are most noticeable, come from three 4-inch (100-millimeter) PolyBass drivers; the highs come through crisp and clear at frequencies up to 30kHz with a 1-inch (25-millimeter) soft-dome tweeter that we've placed at ear level. We've equipped the tweeter with our proprietary Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal™ (EOS) waveguide technology, which creates a wide, consistent listening window, making every seat the best in the house.

Finally, the Loft50 speakers use a Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) design to help ensure that a strong, precise signal arrives at each driver with little alteration from the original source. Not only do the speakers sound stunningly good, but their unique design meets the needs of anyone looking for space-saving audio components. These speakers are unlike any you may have experienced.

Legendary JBL sound

Magnetically Shielded
Magnetically shielded for placement on the floor or wherever you want it, including right next to your TV or video display.

Floorstanding Speaker
Floorstanding design delivers that big theater sound to complete your home entertainment experience

For those who possess a contemporary taste in décor and an affinity for performance speakers, the JBL Loft series is the perfect hybrid solution. Smashing the myth that good sound can only come from bulky cabinets, the slim yet powerful speakers are technological marvels that develop full, rich sound from their ultra lean cabinets.

  • The tweeter features a 1" soft dome with high sensitivity and fast transient response for accurate high-frequency reproduction
  • The tweeter integrates with an Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal waveguide, giving it smooth integration with the midrange and a wide, consistent listening window to create an incredibly wide stereo image across a huge listening area
  • Polybass drivers feature paper cones that are reinforced with a proprietary copolymer to provide additional stiffness and damping to the cone surface; you get tighter bass and extended low frequencies without breakup and distortion
  • A Freeflow Port Architecture extends low frequency response by coupling internal air motion to a computer-designed aperture with a flared shape, allowing maximum air flow without audible port noise; the result is room filling bass from an attractive, slim speaker
  • The Straight Line Signal Path is a crossover design that provides the shortest route from the input terminals to the transducers, thus minimizing signal loss and noise; it helps to ensure that a strong, precise, and unaltered signal arrives at each driver

10 - 250 Watts Suggested Amplifier Range
JBL engineers designed the Loft50 tower speakers to produce precise, exceptional sound from a receiver or amplifier capable of delivering up to 250 watts.

Dual 6-1/2" (165mm) and Triple 4" (100mm) PolyBass Drivers
Paper produces the most natural sound of all driver materials. We've reinforced the Loft50's paper woofer cones with a proprietary polymer that provides additional stiffness and damping to the cone surface. These qualities provide the listener with tight bass and extended low frequencies without breakup or distortion.

1-inch (25mm) Soft Dome Tweeter with EOS Waveguide
The Loft50's tweeter features a 1-inch (25-millimeter) soft dome with high sensitivity and fast transient response for accurate high-frequency reproduction. The tweeter integrates with an EOS (Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal) waveguide, giving high-frequency sounds a wide, consistent listening window. The result is an incredibly broad stereo image across a huge listening area.

FreeFlow Port Technology
A rear-firing FreeFlow™ port is acoustically matched to the Loft50's woofer to move air out of the speaker's cabinet. You'll get extended bass response with low distortion, adding power to your music and excitement to your movie soundtracks.

Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) Design
The ideal path from input to components to transducers is a straight line. The Loft50 takes that path. Its Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) technology preserves the clarity, detail and dynamics of your favorite audio content.

Accurate Frequency Response
The Loft50 doesn't over-emphasize or under-emphasize any sounds. With a frequency response of 37Hz - 20kHz, it reproduces a true, full sound range from deep bass tones to ultrahigh frequencies.

5 out of 5 eggsNot sure what too expect!

Pros: I was a little worried getting these speakers. I purchased these for under $200 though Newegg. I have to say these were worth every dollar. The mids and highs are great paired with a polk PSW 110. Remeber that the sub does most of the work, so dont go cheap on that. These are small speakers, but sound great with the right sub!

Cons: I cant really say anything negative about these speakers. You will want a good sub!

4 out of 5 eggsNice for the price

Pros: I am by no means an audio expert and bough these partial on the great review that Joshua S posted. I needed a new pair of front towers for my 8.1 setup after lightning took out my Infinity speakers. I saw these for $179.00 with free shipping and decided to try them. In everything I have thrown at them from the Expendables 3 to Elvis they have produced wonderful, clean sound. No distortion, pops or hizz. I would say they are 95% as good as my Infinities for a lot less money. The 6.5' subs produced enough bass (when combined with my 6" Yamaha sub) that they have almost negated my upgrade to a 12" Polk sub. The side firing subs (one on either side of the tower) broadened the bass and gave it a wonderful warm, envelope of sound. I just turn my giant sub down and let it blend in with the Woofers on the JBLs. I am very happen with JBL and I am really glad I gave them a try, Thanks to Joshua S. for his Audio head review. :)

Cons: Trebles is not that sharp but overall a good speaker.

Other Thoughts: Wait for the sale and snag these. :)

5 out of 5 eggs"Real World" review- will indicate facts that audiophiles may wonder about

Pros: 1. Nice fit and finish.
2. Small footprint.
3. Nice relatively flat frequency response.
4. Can absorb significant amounts of power without evident strain.
5. Does not have overly harsh/sibilant tweeters.
6. Lowest midrange is crossed over at a low frequency negating the "woofers are on the side of the cabinet" thing.

Cons: 1. Unusual 7/8" spacing on the terminal cups(old standard is 3/4"). Important if purchasing unified banana plugs.
2. VERY slight port noise while playing demanding bass inputs when port velocities are high. You can only hear this if listening for it, and it is barely noticeable.

Other Thoughts: This is not a "acoustically padded room, high dollar test equipment" review. It is a "real world" review from someone with past experience with higher-end speakers and amplifiers in a home stereo setting.
-JBL Loft 50 loudspeakers, standing on a carpeted floor, 10" from the wall to the rear and nothing closer than 12" on any other side of the speakers.
-New Acoustic Dimension 2600 monitor series power amp, 150 watts continuous/average into 8 ohms, 4.7 db dynamic headroom. 60 amps power supply output capability to speakers.
-New Acoustic Dimension 2200 used as the pre amplifier.
14 AWG equal length speaker wires.
-Phillips cd player
-Some VERY demanding classical pipe organ cd's.

Everything sounds nice and flat in regards to frequency response except very slight accentuation in the 70-100 hz area. This may be due to lack of long term "break in" of the woofers if you even believe in that, or the result of enclosure tuning itself.

In my opinion, there is no need for a subwoofer with these towers unless you are a bass-head and need overpowering bass. The bass output is similar to my vintage JBL L-36's these just replaced. They have NO problem reproducing low 32' pedal notes from a recording of a large pipe organ, shaking my living room significantly down to 16 hz. This is a lot to ask for from speakers with a small woofer setup and this is where port noise becomes noticeable, ONLY if you have your head in front of the port listening for it.

The midrange response is excellent. Not too overly "present" and sounds accurate. The lowest mounted midrange is crossed over at a lower frequency than most I have heard so the transition into the woofers' upper area of frequency response is clean.

The tweeters are nice and easy going. They may actually be a little too quiet, have not made my mind up on that yet. As a whole, the middle and high frequency system of the speakers sounds very good.

I played all program material in my "test" in the range of 80-100 watts continuous and never heard any evidence of strain. These actually play music with more detail than my old L-36's which is no easy feat.
1/2" thick enclosure panels, 5/8" thick front baffle.
All grilles are removeable and framed in MDF which is painted black.

3 out of 5 eggsJBL Loft 50

Pros: Good looking, sound good for the price, good craftsmanship,

Cons: Sound do not exceed expectations, self adhesive rubber feet fall off every time I move speakers, not all of them, just one or two. Bought some with wood screws, guess what JBL, it works.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: I only paid one ninety nine for these on special. I have them hooked to a Harmon 70w per channel receiver. Great midrange and mid bass. Great for bass guitar notes. They drone good but do not hit or thump, of course you wouldn't expect that from 6.5's anyways.
I have a 8" sub that takes care of all the lows these can't hit.

Cons: Narrower than I expected, about 5", but they are deep. Not really a con.

Other Thoughts: I got these on sale and used a promo code and got them under two hundred bucks.

4 out of 5 eggsJBL LOFT 50 SPEAKERS (pair)

Pros: the speakers appear to be good quality and are very narrow in width (barely wider than the 4 inch front drivers).the sound is good in my smallish master bedroom.

Cons: the packaging is terrible. both speakers are in one large box with foam padding at the top and bottom with a narrow spacer around the middle. the box arrived with 3 large holes all the way through to the speakers and numerous dents. the bottom was crushed looking, like it had been dropped off a number of trucks. except for the top and bottom, there is only the cardboard box and a 2 inch air space between the speakers and the impacts. i was suprised that the speakers themselves weren't damaged.

Other Thoughts: speaker placement is critical with these speakers largely dut to the side mounted woofers, one on each side at different heights. i moved them around while listening to different types of music until they sounded right. you can't put them too close to anything to the sides, or the bass goes away.

5 out of 5 eggsNice for the Price

Pros: These are good sounding speakers, probably not premium but definitely good. Appearance is sharp, slim, and understated.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: There are actually two offset bass speakers per unit. I couldn't tell that from the pics, but there is one facing each side. They are slimmer than I expected also. I'm waiting on the LOFT20 center channel to show up (purchased elsewhere) and some LOFT40s to complete a surround setup. A separate sub is still necessary. They also get loud and handle quite well.

5 out of 5 eggsCompletely Satisfied

Pros: Very satisfied with the sound quality, fairly loud in my current configuration which is by no means top of the line, and aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: Was a mild hindrance to have to attach the base plates to the actual speaker body, but anyone with a screw driver and 2 minutes can easily handle that.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with the purchase, would recommend to anyone looking for a decent floor standing speaker set.
