3 out of 5 eggsI'm glad it was cheap

Pros: Easy set up.
Lots of features.
Variety of inputs.
Good output power from the amp.

Cons: Not ideal for older input devices.
The variety of inputs are useless unless you also connect a variety of outputs.
Manual only on CD.

Other Thoughts: If you connect your TV to the HDMI output, only HDMI input signals can be sent to the TV. So if you have an older input device, DVD, VCR, etc. connected to a component or composite input, the only way to get its video to your TV is to connect another set of cables from the receiver to the TV. This is completely idiotic. Likewise, if you were to connect your TV to the component outputs on the receiver, your HDMI devices would not be visible unless you also connect an HDMI cable. So for full functionality of all devices, you need to connect your TV to the HTR-4066 with HDMI AND component AND composite cables. It is nothing but a glorified switch box. What it *should* do is convert all of the inputs to whatever output connection you are using, so that only one connection is needed between the receiver and the TV. Very disappointing. Makes a rats' nest of cables even worse, not better. What I am asking for might be technically unreasonable. Too bad. The customer is always right.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: It is fairly simple to setup and has more options than I need right now. That is good because it means I can expand my entertainment system later without having to upgrade components later.

Cons: All of the options are intimidating at first glance. Put down the beer until you have it setup properly.

Other Thoughts: I haven't owned a radio in over 10 years. That wasn't a selling point for me but now that I have it, I love it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Receiver

Pros: Nice 5.1 sound at a good price
Good variety of features
Lots of different sound settings and enhancements
Back of unit gives a nice amount of room to work and attach wires

Cons: None as of right now, but if I have to think of something, the remote control is unattractive and has way too many buttons. However, the receiver has a lot of features so it needs a lot of buttons to control it...

Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research before purchasing this receiver. This is my first 5.1 surround sound system, though I did set up my Dad's simple 5.1 system. This receiver "ticked" all of my boxes for features. I like the fact that it can update from the network, play Pandora Radio, and be controlled over the network. I tested my receiver and speakers when I first hooked them up with the opening sequence from "Batman Begins." My cat was sitting on the floor and looking at the ceiling trying to figure out what was flying around making all of that noise... All around, I think anyone considering purchasing a decent / first time receiver should take a close look at this one.
